Chapter 223: Chapter 223: The Same Old Tale

Outside the Immortal River, Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju finally crossed paths!

Madara threw his head back in laughter, his voice booming across the skies:

"Hahahaha! Hashirama, why are you riding on a cloud? Come down here already—I can't wait any longer!"

Hashirama glanced down at the Nimbus Cloud beneath his feet and spoke gently:

"I'm heading down now. You'd better hide yourself."

The Nimbus Cloud blinked its curious eyes and replied:

"But I want to watch the show."

Hashirama sighed and warned:

"Alright, but don't get too close. Madara... he's a bit dangerous right now."

The cloud nodded obediently:

"Got it!"

Swoosh!

Hashirama descended from the Nimbus Cloud, landing face-to-face with Madara.

The wind swept through their long hair as the two titans stood still, their gazes locked.

Madara's emotions surged as he spoke:

"Hashirama, I heard your soul was sealed away. I've been searching for that 'Kabuto Yakushi' guy, trying to figure out how to undo the seal. But it seems someone already did it. Who was it? I really need to thank them!"

Hashirama replied calmly:

"Orochimaru."

Madara tilted his head thoughtfully:

"Orochimaru? Kabuto mentioned that name before—someone capable of undoing the Uzumaki clan's Reaper Death Seal. Quite impressive. So, where is this Orochimaru now?"

Hashirama responded:

"Amegakure."

Madara's eyes glinted with intrigue:

"Oh, is he one of Naruto's people?"

Madara stood bare-chested, as he had since his resurrection. Regardless of the weather, he always exposed the face of Hashirama embedded on his chest.

Madara smirked:

"No wonder you don't seem too surprised, looking at this face on my chest. I suppose Naruto already told you about it. How irritating!"

Hashirama's gaze shifted upward:

"Madara, your eyes—"

Madara raised his hand to cover his right eye and replied nonchalantly:

"Oh, you mean this Byakugan? I took it from a Hyūga at Konoha's gates. Of course, he's nothing but ashes now."

Hashirama's expression darkened slightly.

Madara's tone grew bored:

"Is that all you're surprised about? Then let me show you something even better."

He clasped his hands together, and the Sage Art mask of Hashirama appeared over the face embedded on his chest.

Madara clenched his fist and asked with a sly grin:

"So, how about it? Surprised?"

Hashirama feigned astonishment to avoid disappointing him:

"I didn't see that coming!"

Madara laughed like a child:

"Look at your shocked face—hilarious!"

Hashirama's tone grew complex:

"You must've gone through a lot to obtain that."

Madara sighed wistfully:

"Indeed. Unlike you, I'm not everyone's favorite. My first stop at Shikkotsu Forest was a disaster. After that, I had to kidnap your granddaughter, forcing that slug to teach me Sage Mode. As for Ryūchi Cave and Mount Myōboku, let's not even go there. Hashirama, I've never schemed so hard in my life. But when I want something, I'll get it—be it eyes, Sage Mode, or anything else!"

Hashirama shook his head with a sigh:

"After all these years, you haven't changed. So, what's your purpose here? Is it Naruto?"

Madara admitted honestly:

"At first, yes—I came to settle things with Naruto. But I stumbled upon an unexpected surprise. Naruto and Obito are fighting, aren't they? Let them fight. It doesn't matter for now. Hashirama, I want you to fight me!"

Hashirama replied earnestly:

"You don't have your original eyes anymore, and you've lost the immortality granted by Edo Tensei. Meanwhile, I've been resurrected with far greater power than before. If we fight, it wouldn't be fair to you."

Madara stretched, his movements relaxed but his voice resolute:

"It doesn't matter. When you wield too many different powers, it creates an imbalance. For someone with experience, all that matters is having enough destructive force to win. We both have techniques capable of killing each other. What follows will be a battle of skill and luck. You might have a slightly better chance, but that's all."

Hashirama's expression grew serious:

"Madara, I'd prefer to resolve our issues without fighting."

Madara finished stretching, his fists clenched and his excitement palpable:

"Whatever you think of me, we'll settle it after the fight! Come on, Hashirama—I've waited long enough!"

Hashirama sighed:

"I guess there's no reasoning with you. Alright, Madara—let's do this!"

Hashirama clasped his hands together, activating Sage Mode.

Madara's grin widened:

"Bring it on, Hashirama!"

Sage Art: Wood Style: True Several Thousand Hands!

On the other side of the Immortal River, a smaller version of True Several Thousand Hands blocked the path of Susano'o.

A playful voice echoed from atop the wooden statue:

"This road's closed~!"

Tobi, lounging on the head of the wooden deity, rested his cheek against his palm, his tone carefree:

"Even without Yamato filling the gaps, I've improved enough to use this version of True Several Thousand Hands."

Susano'o hovered in mid-air as Sasuke Uchiha narrowed his eyes:

"Tobi!"

Tobi chuckled lazily:

"Oh, wow~ You actually know me."

Sasuke's voice was cold:

"I don't have time for this. Move."

Tobi's demeanor shifted slightly, a hint of sharpness in his tone:

"Let me ask you something. Naruto and Obito—who are you after?"

Inside Susano'o, Kabuto Yakushi, seated in a wheelchair, whispered:

"Sasuke-kun, Tobi and Obito are allies. If you want to avoid a fight, it'd be better to say you're after Naruto."

Sasuke replied calmly:

"I know that. But that's not my style."

Kabuto nodded:

"Alright, then do as you wish."

Sasuke declared firmly:

"Obito has Itachi's remains. I'm here to make him hand them over!"

Tobi's gaze darkened:

"So, you're after Obito, huh?"

Sasuke retorted coldly:

"What of it? If Obito dies at Naruto's hands, who would I go to for Itachi's remains?"

Tobi stood up on the wooden statue, his tone losing all trace of levity:

"How unfortunate. I can't let you pass. Frankly, I never intended to let someone as fickle as you through."

Clang!

Susano'o's blade flashed, diving down in a vicious strike!

Bang!

The wooden statue caught the blade with its hands, its fists extending and hammering down from behind!

Swoosh!

Susano'o abandoned its sword, retreating dozens of meters before reforming twin blades in its hands, slashing wildly through the air!

Shing! Shing! Shing!

The razor-sharp blade light tore apart the wooden fists below!

Swoosh! Swoosh!

From the earth, thousands of White Zetsu emerged, their bodies merging into a massive Carnivorous Plant, stretching skyward toward Susano'o.

Sasuke sneered:

"Tch. A bunch of weaklings, yet annoyingly persistent."

Ryūchi Cave Sage Mode!

Upon activating Sage Mode, Susano'o transformed, becoming entwined with eight massive purple serpents.

Sage Art: Susano'o: Eight-Headed Technique!

The serpent heads targeted the White Zetsu below, forming a colossal chakra sphere:

Eight-Headed Orb!

Slash!

The black-flamed blade of Kagutsuchi pierced the orb.

"Burn to ashes!"

Kagutsuchi: Eight-Headed Orb!

Boom!

The explosion unleashed a rain of black flames across the battlefield, leaving the White Zetsu screaming in agony.

"Aaahhh! Sasuke, you bastard!"

Sasuke's gaze was icy:

"I'll give you a dignified death."

His eyes locked onto Tobi atop the wooden statue.

Indra's Arrow!

Crackle!

In the sky, indigo lightning gathered, forming a spear of devastating power.

Sasuke focused his left eye, activating the Mangekyō Sharingan technique to control the spear's form:

Takemikazuchi-no-Kami!

Shing! Shing!

The lightning spear morphed into a terrifying lance.

Tobi sighed:

"Oh dear. I guess there's no escaping this one. But remember, Sasuke—without Obito, you're nothing but a shadow."

Sasuke's killing intent surged:

"Die!"

Takemikazuchi-no-Kami Lance!

Boom!

The lance descended with unstoppable force.

Thunk!

At the last moment, a kunai landed at Tobi's feet.

A man emerged from Flying Thunder God, grabbing Tobi's shoulder and teleporting them both to safety.

Boom!

The lance obliterated the wooden statue, leaving a bottomless crater in the earth.

Sasuke's gaze shifted upward, cold and piercing.

Standing atop the clouds was the young Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, riding the Nimbus Cloud and wielding the Monkey King Staff. His voice was stern:

"Sasuke, consorting with Kabuto proves you haven't grown as Itachi had hoped."

Sasuke replied frostily:

"You have no right to speak of Itachi."

Shing!

Blade light sliced through the air.

Hiruzen dodged on his cloud, extending the staff downward:

Adamantine Staff!

On the distant clouds, Tobi faced Tobirama Senju and asked:

"Second Hokage, why did you save me?"

Tobirama spoke with conviction:

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend. I see your strength, and together, we can defeat that treacherous Uchiha!"
