Naruto: The Medical Shinobi

Chapter 119: Chapter 117: Ambidextrous

"I'm here to present the Fuinjutsu Council head—Lord Hokage—a newly crafted seal."

Hiruzen arched an eyebrow. "A newly crafted seal, you say?" His voice carried a mix of surprise and intrigue.

He continued, "That's wonderful news, Dan. Since Fourth's death, there hasn't been much advancement in Fuinjutsu. Minato was the last to present a new seal, and that was years ago."

Hiruzen paused, his eyes narrowing slightly as he studied Dan. "But I must admit, I'm surprised. Crafting a new seal takes considerable time, effort, and, more importantly, creativity. You've been… less active in recent years."

Dan's face remained calm, but Hiruzen's words hit home. After the loss of his family, Dan had lost his drive and his motivation.

First Hiruzen thought that Ryu had changed that and his adoptive grandson had reignited the spark within him, giving him a reason to push forward once more.

Hiruzen's eyes widened slightly as one more thought crossed his mind. "Wait… could it be?"

Hiruzen's mind raced. "Ryu? But he's just a boy… Could he already be modifying seals? The Hokage's thoughts darkened. If word got out that a child was creating new fuinjutsu seals, it would be world-breaking news. I don't want a bounty placed on his head before he's even graduated from the academy."

To confirm his suspicions, Hiruzen asked again, his voice calm but probing. "Dan, did you craft this seal all by yourself?"

Dan hesitated for a moment, then replied, "Yes, I did. I came up with the idea long ago, but I was not motivated well enough to work on it. When Ryu came into my life, I found that motivation again. It's simply pure luck on my part."

Hiruzen heard the words he spoke but also the hesitation and silence before those words. It speaks volume.

"So I should thank Ryu instead of you then?" Hiruzen's tone was laced with understanding and a little bit of sarcasm.

The two men stared at each other, an unspoken understanding passing between them. Hiruzen has guessed the truth, but he also knew the importance of keeping it quiet. A sealmaster and potential grandmaster of Fuinjutsu who is just an academy student is a secret worth keeping for everyone's sake.

Breaking the silence, Hiruzen asked, "So, what exactly is this new seal?"

Dan's tone shifted to a more professional one as he explained. "It's an optimised storage seal. About 35% more chakra-efficient than a regular storage seal. The standard storage seal was designed for broad-spectrum use, capable of storing both lightweight and heavy objects. I optimised it to store a large number of smaller objects in the most efficient way possible."

Dan handed the scroll to Hiruzen, who unrolled it and examined the seal. His eyes widened slightly as he took in the intricate details. "A 35% increase in efficiency may not sound like much, but to the average Shinobi at the battlefield, it could be a lifesaving portion of chakra. In the world of fuinjutsu, that's a significant leap forward."

Hiruzen looked up from the scroll, his expression thoughtful. "What do you plan to do with this seal?"

Dan crossed his arms, his voice steady. "I plan to sell it in the open market after I am done mastering it. I will also offer the seal to other sealmasters and grandmasters on a profit-sharing basis to meet the demand if I have to."

Hiruzen nodded, impressed by the foresight. "That's a solid plan. I'll call a meeting with the Fuinjutsu Council right now. Be ready to present your seal and business proposal."

Dan shook his head. "I won't be attending the meeting. I trust you to present it on my behalf. If any of the Fuinjutsu masters want a commercial license for the seal, they can approach me later."

Hiruzen raised an eyebrow but didn't argue if Dan doesn't want to be present at the council meeting. Given their tense past, he was aware that it would be best if he and one specific council member avoided each other.

"Very well." He then opened the training scroll Dan had handed him, his eyes scanning the detailed notes. "This… this is incredibly detailed," Hiruzen murmured, his voice filled with admiration. "You didn't need to share this level of insight for reporting a new seal."

Dan smiled faintly. "Consider it a gift, Hiruzen. For helping Ryu with the Medical Council. With this, you'll be able to learn the new seal in just a day or two. I think it'll improve your signature jutsu—[Shadow Shuriken]. It requires multiple shuriken stored in one shuriken. Insight from this seal will help you improve your jutsu both qualitatively and quantitatively."

With excitement shining in his eyes, Hiruzen laughed. "Not just that. This will broaden my fuinjutsu knowledge as a whole. I'll accept your gift, Dan. And give Ryu my gratitude."

Dan nodded, turning to leave without another word. As he walked out of the Hokage's office, he felt a sense of pride swelling in his chest. First that miracle drug, and now this seal. The boy's future was bright.

When Dan returned home, he found Ryu sitting cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by dummy seal scrolls. The boy looked up, a grin spreading across his face. "Already done with the barrier seal, Grandpa."

Dan raised an eyebrow, impressed. "Have you learnt the [Single Blue-Flame Barrier-Seal], Can you execute it? I purposely gave you a difficult one."

Ryu's grin widened. "It was definitely more difficult than the storage seal, but I managed to learn it."

Dan crossed his arms, a playful glint in his eyes. "Alright then, show me. Create a barrier seal on actual Fuinjustu paper and execute it in front of me."

Without hesitation, Ryu grabbed a fresh scroll and began tracing the imaginary lines projected in his mind over the fuinjutsu paper.

To write faster When [Parallel Thinking] took over, he picked up his spare quill with the other hand and started writing from both hands at once in order to write more quickly.

"Bloody hell," Dan spke out loud.

Ryu just smiled and continued to write the seal with both hands.

Dan thought, "I am yet to find any mistake in the seal. How in the hell is he doing that? Is that even possible?"

Too many questones popped in Dan's head, but he did not disturb Ryu and waited for him to finish the seal first.

Progress: 47%.. 52%…. 89%… 100%

Within 10 minutes, he had completed the scroll and handed it to Dan for review.

Dan, while grabbing the scroll, said, "I did not know you were ambidextrous. I am sure even the ambidextrous can write with one hand at the same time."

Ryu just smiled instead of answering.

Dan examined the scroll carefully, nodding in approval. "It looks perfect," he said. He placed the scroll on the ground, performed a series of hand seals, and pressed his hand against the paper. A thin, translucent blue wall of chakra appeared in front of him, shimmering faintly in the light.

Dan smiled, satisfied. "It functions flawlessly."

As he withdrew his hand, the barrier vanished. Dan turned to Ryu, his expression amused. "Alright, out with it."

Ryu blinked, confused. "What?"

Dan smirked. "You must have done something to the seal. Come on, out with it already."

Ryu chuckled, shaking his head. "I didn't have time to modify this one, but I do have some ideas."

Dan's curiosity piqued. "What kind of ideas?"

Ryu's eyes gleamed with excitement as he explained. "The activation mechanism requires a constant supply of chakra. If you wanted to create four barrier walls, you'd need four separate seals and four different people to maintain them. If even one person runs out of chakra, the entire barrier would be compromised."

Dan nodded thoughtfully. "Those are the drawbacks of the seal."

Ryu grinned. "For me, drawbacks are just areas for improvement."

Dan replied, "You're not wrong. But just knowing the drawbacks doesn't lead to improvement. You need concrete ideas for how to fix them."

Ryu's grin widened. "Grandpa, necessity breeds invention. First, you have to acknowledge the need for improvement before you can think of ways to improve."

Dan smiled, his heart swelling with pride. "You have a point. So, what's your plan for improving this seal?"

Ryu continued, "I have a lot of ideas for this seal and others as well, but most of them are about improving existing seals, not creating entirely new ones. I can make this barrier seal more chakra-efficient and change its activation mechanism to make it more versatile. The new seals will come later, once I'm a hidden grandmaster like you. For now, I'll focus on modifying the old ones and broaden my understanding of these regular seals."

Dan, ruffling Ryu's hair, said, "You've got a good head on your shoulders, kid. always Keep this spark of innovation in you alive. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next."

"So… this change in activation mechanism? How can one do that?" Dan asked.
