Chapter 39: Chapter 39
Kitazawa returned home and sank onto his sofa, pulling out the ninjutsu scroll he'd received as a reward from Hiruzen Sarutobi: the B-rank Wind Release: Vacuum Bullet.
'How should I put it…?'
Although it was indeed a Wind Release jutsu, the details recorded on this scroll were nowhere near as precise or thorough as the version he'd gotten from the system.
In short, there wasn't much worth getting excited about.
The sun set and rose again, ushering in a new day.
Kitazawa opened his eyes and stretched his arms overhead.
It was Saturday, meaning he had no classes at the Ninja Academy—but that didn't mean he was free.
He still needed to meet up with Kakashi for Naruto's sexy jutsu training, and there was also the matter of discussing Yakumo's next genjutsu with Kurenai.
Just then, a knock echoed at his door.
Kitazawa paused, then stood, changed clothes quickly, and went to answer it.
As he opened the door, a vibrant splash of red met his eyes.
Kurenai stood there, dressed in a crimson off-the-shoulder dress with a wide neckline, her fair skin shifting slightly with each breath.
Kitazawa's gaze flickered downward before he caught himself, silently admitting that some things were indeed… quite ample.
"What are you staring at? Aren't you going to invite me in?"
Kurenai teased, smiling faintly.
"How could I ever refuse?" Kitazawa said smoothly, taking the bag from her hand. "With such a beautiful guest, I must be the luckiest man in the village today."
"You never stop with the sweet talk."
Kurenai stepped inside, heading for the shoe cabinet. She bent down to slip off her shoes, revealing slender calves wrapped in black stockings, smooth and flawless.
"I'm only speaking the truth," Kitazawa replied, deliberately shifting his gaze elsewhere. Then he looked at the bag and frowned. "Why is this alcohol?"
"Why shouldn't it be alcohol?"
Kurenai's stocking-clad feet made a soft thud against the floor as she stepped inside.
"Are you drinking in the morning now, too?" Kitazawa said, following her. "Too much drinking isn't good for your health, you know."
"This isn't for the morning—it's for the evening."
Kurenai made her way to the sofa, smoothed the fabric of her dress from her hips downward, then sat gracefully, legs together.
"For the evening?"
Kitazawa chuckled, lowering the bag onto the coffee table. "Are you planning to have both lunch and dinner at my place today?"
"It's called reciprocity," Kurenai replied, flashing him a playful look. "Do you remember how many meals you've eaten at my place?"
"So… are you in the mood for Ichiraku Ramen, or do you want me to cook?" Kitazawa asked as he settled into the seat opposite her.
"Of course you should cook," Kurenai said, resting her chin on her hand. "I haven't tasted much of your cooking yet."
"Don't get your hopes up too high," Kitazawa warned. "My cooking's only so-so."
"I'm not a picky eater."
Kurenai pulled two scrolls from her bag and held them up. "Shall we start brainstorming the new genjutsu?"
"Give me half an hour," Kitazawa said, getting to his feet. "I have an errand to run first."
"Go ahead."
Kurenai waved him off and pulled out a pen. "I'll get started on the research while you're out."
"Thanks."
Kitazawa slipped on his shoes and headed out the door.
On his way out that morning, Kitazawa stopped to buy two slices of bread for breakfast.
He'd never been to Naruto's home before, but he knew the address from the student records.
Before long, he arrived at his destination: an old, slightly run-down two-story building.
Kitazawa raised his hand and knocked on the door.
"Kitazawa-sensei?"
The door swung open to reveal Naruto, beaming with surprise and delight.
"Are you heading out somewhere?" Kitazawa asked, eyeing his outfit with an amused twitch of his lips.
"I've been going on morning runs with Gai-sensei and Rock Lee lately," Naruto explained.
'Rock Lee, huh…?' Kitazawa raised an eyebrow.
It looked like his earlier advice had paid off; Gai had already taken Rock Lee under his wing and started training him.
"Well, your run's canceled today," Kitazawa said. "I'm taking you to meet a ninja who's a real expert with the Transformation Jutsu."
"Is he super strong?" Naruto asked, curiosity blazing in his blue eyes.
"It's not just about being strong," Kitazawa said with a grin. "This ninja's very rare and quite special. He's mastered a thousand jutsu—and he can help customize a Transformation Jutsu just for you."
"Really?!" Naruto's eyes lit up like fireworks.
Ever since Kitazawa had shared those unofficial stories about Uchiha Madara, Naruto's mind had been bursting with wild, creative ideas for the Transformation Jutsu.
"Have I ever lied to you?" Kitazawa teased.
"No…" Naruto scratched his head, looking sheepish.
"Good. Let's go."
Kitazawa gave him a light pat on the shoulder and started walking off.
"Wait for me!" Naruto slammed the door shut behind him and sprinted to catch up.
"About your Transformation Jutsu," Kitazawa said as they walked, "don't hold back. Whatever ideas you've got, just tell him."
"Okay, Kitazawa-sensei," Naruto nodded earnestly. But then his face fell, and he asked in a small voice, "Do you think… do you think he'll dislike me?"
Even though Naruto had been enjoying himself at the Ninja Academy lately, life outside of school was still the same: people kept their distance.
Kitazawa paused, then shook his head. "No. Not at all. His name is Kakashi Hatake—and he's good friends with Gai."
Hearing that, Naruto immediately looked more relaxed.
After all, anyone who could be Gai's friend had to be a little… unusual—and probably kind.
He'd trained alongside Gai for a while, and if nothing else, they'd shared the same pain of endless push-ups and eccentric shouting matches.
Because of his odd personality, Gai wasn't exactly popular.
Neither was Naruto.
—
Meanwhile, at Kakashi Hatake's place, a knock sounded at the door.
Kakashi stiffened slightly. He already had a pretty good idea who it was—but even so, he felt a twinge of nervousness he hadn't experienced in years.
He hadn't seen Naruto since the Fourth Hokage's death.
Kakashi took a slow breath and opened the door.
The moment he did, his single visible eye went straight to Naruto's spiky blond hair.
"Kakashi," Kitazawa said, stepping forward. "This is Uzumaki Naruto."
"Kakashi-sensei! Hello!" Naruto burst out excitedly, grinning from ear to ear.
'Sensei…?'
Kakashi froze for an instant, startled by the familiar honorific.
He blinked, regaining his composure after a brief silence.
"Mm." Kakashi responded quietly.
"I'll leave you two to talk," Kitazawa said briskly. "I've got some errands to run."
Once Kitazawa departed, Kakashi turned and gestured Naruto inside. "So… I hear you want to develop a new Transformation Jutsu?"
"Yes!" Naruto said, practically bouncing in place. "Kakashi-sensei, will you help me?"
"It's no trouble at all," Kakashi said, regaining his usual cool. "Tell me—what sort of idea do you have in mind?"
"I want to use the Transformation Jutsu to turn into a beautiful woman and distract my enemies!" Naruto declared, utterly earnest.
"…"
Kakashi's body went rigid. A huge mental question mark practically hovered above his head.
'Did I hear that right?'
'Who on earth planted this idea in his brain? Jiraiya-sama? Or… Hokage-sama?!'
"Kakashi-sensei," Naruto went on, remembering something Kitazawa had once told him, "do you know what a beautiful and… sexy woman looks like?"
Kakashi stared at him, completely at a loss.
A thousand thoughts flew through his mind, but in the end, they all condensed into one silent cry:
'Kitazawa, you bastard… you've really thrown me into the deep end here!'
