Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Weakness
"Teacher, it seems like these attacks aren't doing much to him!" Samui said, a bit helplessly, after dispatching a regular cultist.
"Yeah, you're right," Kutou replied, having just taken out one of the cultists as well. "If this goes on, we might run out of chakra, and that guy still looks perfectly fine!"
Killer Bee, too, noticed this. He quickly sheathed his seven swords and started stretching his neck and joints, like he was preparing for something big.
"Looks like it's time for me to use my trump card!" Killer Bee said, his speed suddenly increasing. In the blink of an eye, he shot forward like a cannonball.
Before the trees even reacted, the head of his target was already sent flying. Thud—it hit the ground and even bounced a few times.
"Lightning Style – Lightning Cutter!"
Killer Bee appeared behind the Tree Sea in an instant and roared the technique's name. It was a strike that relied on speed, extremely fast. Even under the Sharingan, it was almost impossible to follow his movements.
From a distance, the others now realized the true level of Killer Bee's strength. His speed and power were comparable to the Raikage's. With the chakra cloak from the Eight-Tails, he could probably sweep the entire battlefield, except perhaps for someone like Shisui.
Slapping his shoulder, Killer Bee seemed completely relaxed. His injuries on his arms and legs were no concern—thanks to the Eight-Tails chakra, they were already healing quickly.
"Teacher, you're still as strong as ever!" Samui said coolly, charging at the remaining cultists. Meanwhile, Darui stood nearby, looking somewhat downcast.
But Kutou couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. Particularly the fact that the cultist who had fallen seemed to be... alive? There was a strange chakra wrapped around the corpse's neck.
He cautiously approached the body, fully aware that, as the team's strategist and sensor ninja, he needed to make sure the cultist was truly dead. His body tensed, ready for battle.
The moment he got close to the corpse, something shocking happened. Black chakra threads suddenly appeared around the cultist's neck, and in the blink of an eye, the head shot up as if it could be pulled back into place. Tree Sea, having somehow recovered, had already launched a black spear toward him.
Kutou barely managed to block it with his ninja blade. He was knocked back three or four steps before finally coming to a stop, just as Achiri caught him, preventing him from falling.
That spear was quick and powerful. If Kutou hadn't been prepared, it would have been a fatal blow.
Thwip!
A sound like a whip cracked through the air, and suddenly Kutou's body stiffened. Blood splattered onto the ground. Achiri's eyes widened in disbelief as she couldn't react fast enough.
A black spear had pierced through Kutou's chest, and blood was dripping down onto the earth, kicking up dust and forming bloodstains.
"Kutou!"
Killer Bee froze for a moment, but instantly appeared in front of Kutou, slashing through the black spear that had just materialized from the ground. He caught Kutou's body in his arms and quickly moved to Samui's side.
The sight of this spear's power left everyone stunned. Even Darui, always calm and collected, trembled at the sight, overwhelmed with guilt.
"It was... the man in the black cloak!" Achiri said, pointing in the direction where the man had disappeared.
"Killer Bee..." Kutou coughed painfully, his voice shaky. He looked up at Killer Bee, his words coming out slowly. "I finally understand how their jutsu works. Heh, you guys can attack them without hesitation now."
"Kutou, no..." Killer Bee started to protest, but Kutou gave a weak smile, signaling for him to stop.
"What you're protecting... is Raikage-sama. Heh... but this mission still needs more attention. At least you're a ninja that Raikage recognizes," Kutou said with a faint grin, his gaze turning distant, as if remembering a time when he was trained to be one of Raikage's bodyguards. His thoughts turned to the many comrades who had fallen in battle—some whose bodies were never even found.
At that moment, Kutou's eyes remained open, but he had already lost all his breath.
"Kutou!" Killer Bee muttered, his tone heavy with sorrow.
"I understand now. I know how to deal with these guys," Killer Bee said, gently lowering Kutou's body to the ground. His chakra flared up, thick and powerful, surrounding him like a mantle.
Meanwhile, the black chakra threads began to stitch Tree Sea's head back on, and he slowly rose, his cold eyes fixed on the now-charged Killer Bee.
"Lightning Style – Black Lightning Beast!" Darui formed a series of hand seals, summoning a black lightning beast that struck Tree Sea before he could react.
The beast roared and grew, scattering in all directions, targeting the cultists. But Killer Bee wasn't about to let Tree Sea off that easily.
"Eight Strikes!"
Surrounded by the power of the Eight-Tails, Killer Bee disappeared in an instant, reappearing beside Tree Sea. With a single blow, Tree Sea's body was split in two.
Killer Bee didn't stop there. He relentlessly pummeled Tree Sea's half-split body with strike after strike.
"Lightning Style – Lightning Cutter!"
With a final roar, Killer Bee unleashed another devastating strike, severing Tree Sea's head once again. But that wasn't the end. His monstrous strength, like that of the Eight-Tails, ripped Tree Sea apart completely—hands, feet, torso, and head.
It was a gruesome, savage sight, as Tree Sea's body fell apart in mid-air, completely shattered.
Far off in the mist, Qing paused for a moment, then muttered, "So it's the Jinchuriki from the Hidden Cloud... I see, they've reached a whole new level. But now we know how to deal with these guys. Heh, all we need to do is keep attacking until their bodies can't reassemble anymore!"
With that, Qing's and Gui Deng Yan's blades appeared in their hands, ready to strike. The two, moving quickly in the mist, started attacking one of the four guardians. Despite the guardian's best efforts to defend, the speed and precision of Qing and Gui Deng Yan's strikes were overwhelming.
The guardian couldn't withstand the assault for long, and after a few more blows, he began to retreat, realizing his position was no longer tenable.
Meanwhile, those hiding in the mist, including the Grass Ninja, still had no visibility. They could only stay hidden, avoiding the blows of Qing and Gui Deng Yan.
The tactics were clear: strike relentlessly, break their bodies before they could reassemble, and defeat them for good. Even if the freshly standing Hasegawa and Kanaya Yuto were the next targets, the approach remained the same...
