Naruto : Reborn As Sukuna Haruno

Chapter 19: Chapter 19 : Village Lockdown

The aftermath of the Uchiha massacre was messy. The entire village was in an uproar.

Thanks to Sukuna's sudden and violent interference, twenty of Danzo's best Root shinobi were dead. Each of them had been handpicked, elite, and trained to carry out secret missions in the shadows. Losing them in one night was a devastating blow to Danzo's power.

Kakashi had been found unconscious near the Uchiha district. His memory of the night was completely gone. No one knew why he had been there, and Kakashi himself couldn't explain it. He felt something strange, though.

Like something had been taken away from him, which he didn't even realize. All of a sudden, his right eye's drain wasn't as much as it used to be, and at the same time, it felt unfamiliar. Little did he know that what he had was no ordinary three-tomoe Sharingan.

It was a Mangekyo which now was taken away from him, replaced with a simple three-tomoe Sharingan.

Obito never showed up to do his part of the plan. His only contribution was killing the police department. The lack of another top-tier butcher to harvest Uchiha lives cost the massacre much.

And then there was Itachi. He was supposed to finish off the Uchiha clan—but his fight with Sukuna left him wounded, one arm missing, and completely exhausted. After burning through multiple Mangekyo abilities and using Susanoo, he couldn't continue. To make matters worse, when he looked around, the mysterious masked man who was supposed to help him wasn't there. He had vanished.

So instead of a full massacre, only a portion of the Uchiha clan was killed.

Many survived.

All the main hardliners—the ones pushing for the coup—were dead, all thanks to Itachi targeting them first, but regular Uchiha civilians, shinobi, and even some police force members managed to live. The massacre had failed its main goal: complete elimination of the Uchiha.

The next morning, the Hokage's office was filled with tension.

Hiruzen Sarutobi sat behind his desk, his face red with anger. His advisors, Koharu and Homura, stood beside him. Danzo stood across the room, silent but stiff.

While his face was expressionless as usual, inside he was seething.

"This was your doing, Danzo," Hiruzen said, his voice cold. "You went behind my back, started this entire operation without proper approval, and look where we are now."

Koharu frowned. "We agreed to stop the coup quietly… but this was not quiet. And it was not even complete."

Homura added, "Now half the clan remains. And they are speaking up. More dangerously, the remaining Uchiha are getting the villagers' sympathy. Now even if we want to, we can't touch them."

Danzo gritted his teeth. "It was supposed to be clean. My men were the best. But something interfered."

"Something interfered. Someone stole Shisui's eyes right under your nose." Hiruzen slammed his hand on the table. "Why are you even in that position if all you can do is give excuses?"

Hiruzen and the others were angry, really angry. While they planned to take action against the Uchiha clan, Danzo completely acted on his own.

Even after Hiruzen gave him free rein, it didn't mean that he could do whatever he wanted. Not even informing the Hokage of something this big. Danzo was completely at fault here.

At least they had to believe that. While Danzo's fault was undeniable truth, they too were bound to put all the blame on their old friend here. If not, then they had to take the responsibility, which they wouldn't, of course.

Koharu whispered, "If the whole clan had been wiped out… the story could have been managed. Controlled. The village would have moved on."

"But with so many Uchiha alive," Homura said, "we now have to answer questions. Deal with suspicion. They are no longer capable of launching a coup against the village anytime soon. However, the distance between the village and the clan will increase even further."

Hiruzen leaned back in his chair, furious but composed. "We've not only lost Root's strength, but gained a political disaster. And you, Danzo, have made it worse. You acted in the dark and failed."

Danzo said nothing. He knew words wouldn't save him here.

The Hokage gave his final words. "From now on, Root is dissolved. You've done enough."

The office was silent after that. The massacre that was meant to erase the Uchiha clan had only weakened them.

In a way, this entire episode has worsened the situation. The village would, of course, try to push all the blame on the S-class missing-nin Uchiha Itachi. However, how many would buy it?

How many would believe that a 12-year-old almost destroyed an entire clan? That there were no Anbu there to help from the village?

Danzo just stood there, his hands clenched white, danger and frustration boiling inside but with nowhere to go.

...

The consequences of this difference would be felt as time passed, however, the waves had already started to cause ripples in the story. With enough Uchiha left behind to repopulate the clan sooner or later, the clan status—which only big families deserved in Konoha—would not be taken away from the Uchiha clan.

Unlike canon, Konoha wouldn't be taking away the Uchiha clan lands or their family jutsu and secrets either. If anything were to happen to any of the Uchiha now, though, it would even backfire on the higher management of the village.

The Ino-Shika-Cho clans, the Hyuga clan, and many more clans across Konoha had secretly held meetings to determine the outcome of this big incident. Their clans' approach regarding this matter and, most importantly, to form any sort of countermeasures against something similar happening to themselves.

While none voiced it, almost everyone could see that something this big couldn't be done without the higher management of the village having knowledge of the matter. Everyone suspected the higher management of the village's involvement in this incident, even the politically aligned factions with the Hokage like Ino-Shika-Cho.

And the person mostly responsible for this change was mostly oblivious to what he had caused.

Sukuna was currently lying on his bed. Last night's incident caused a village-wide lockdown. Meaning there wouldn't be any classes today.

"Nothing but drama to show they care." Sukuna sneered at the pointless measures taken by the Third Hokage and his advisors.

He got back late at night, completely tired and exhausted. Making sure that nothing could lead the village or Itachi to him, he decided to sleep and think about the matters in the morning.

He didn't even bother to speculate the actions he had taken and what kind of ripples they would cause.

For once, he didn't even know that his actions had led to many Uchiha survivors. It wasn't like he couldn't figure it out if he had given it enough thought, but he just didn't.

For him, his goals were complete, and none could track or suspect him. That was more than enough.

"Itachi Uchiha..." He let out the words like they were venom.

"That man almost killed me. If not for my preparation with a binding vow binding Izanagi in Shisui's right eye, I would have been toast. Black charred toast, freshly baked in black fire, burned for seven days and seven nights...."

He would have fought Itachi if he had a good counter for Susanoo with him. Even with Obito's broken Kamui, as long as Itachi had maintained his Susanoo, Sukuna had no way to get to him.

Perhaps with Obito's long-distance Kamui, but for that, he had to remove Shisui's only intact eye and replace it with the one he got from Kakashi. Doing it during battle was almost impossible.

If not for Izanagi and Black Flash empowering his brain, he wouldn't have pulled that move in time.

The fight was completely unnecessary; his fault for not keeping a low profile and not powering down his binding vow. Which had already given him many ideas to put some supporting vows, like an automatic switch-off after fights, beside this main vow, which he was now calling "King's Reserves..." as it technically added an entire Sukuna worth of cursed energy into his pool.

It was out of his control and his mistake. He lost one of Shisui's Mangekyo in the process, almost died if that wasn't the case, and now Itachi freaking Uchiha would be behind his trail. Hell, the only reason he didn't risk fighting longer was because Itachi was Itachi.

His battle IQ was insane, and sooner or later, he would have figured out a way to harm Sukuna. There were more factors as well, of course. Like Sukuna didn't have much training with Obito's Mangekyo. The more he used that eye, the more damaged it would have been, losing its light. And lastly, he just didn't have any way to bypass Susanoo.

He could have played the waiting game, letting Itachi run out of his chakra or ocular power, whichever came first. In that case, he surely would have outlasted Itachi. However, staying there was dangerous. If not Itachi, then other Konoha shinobi would have eventually shown up.

But it wasn't all bad for him. Not only had he fought with Itachi and got a good measure of his own strength and scale of his power, but he also cost Itachi his arm. Now, that was mostly Itachi being stupid like his brother for once, but still. Loss of a limb for a shinobi is costly.

Casting jutsu requires both hands. Given enough time, one with enough motivation and talent could surely learn single-hand sign casting. Itachi, in this regard, wasn't lacking in either. However, initially, it would be hard on him.

"Sasuke might not get his wish to kill his brother this time around. He certainly has to be in line after me..." Sukuna smirked. He wasn't letting last night's matter be settled anytime soon. He'd get even with Itachi sooner or later.

For now, though, he had to figure out the mess he had in front of him. From what actions he had caused in the canon story to the three Mangekyo in his possession.

No, actually, he might just have more. He didn't leave Itachi directly. Kamui boosted his confidence enough for him to venture out and go for Fugaku's eyes as well. He just wasn't sure whether those were Mangekyo or not. And while he was at it, he also took Mikoto's eyes as well.

Even before that, he destroyed as many eyes from Uchiha corpses as he could, making sure Danzo didn't get his hands on them. He certainly didn't destroy all of them, but enough to the point that it would cause that old man an aneurysm.

He didn't sense any reason to take those eyes for himself, honestly, so destroying them was the best idea.

Back to the question, though, choosing between them was a hassle.

"Sigh... If only I had four eyes..."
