Chapter 157: CHAPTER 157 - The Fourth Hokage’s Choice

Ayaka Uzumaki stood silently, gazing at Kushina's weakened state. She didn't know what to say.

From her back, eight Adamantine Chains extended, mirroring Kushina's sealing technique as they unraveled the Adamantine Sealing Barrier. Together with Hyuga Mirai, she stepped inside.

Though the Adamantine Sealing Barrier was powerful, it could be breached by someone wielding the same chains.

"Why... are you here?"

Kushina could do nothing to stop Ayaka. All her remaining strength was being used to suppress the Nine-Tails. Even standing and speaking was a struggle.

Then, as her eyes met Ayaka's, she immediately understood the reason for their arrival.

"It's for the Nine-Tails, isn't it?"

Ayaka didn't answer the question. Instead, she remained expressionless as she asked, "Princess Kushina, I'll ask you one last time—are you willing to leave Konoha and return to Uzushio with your child? There is a way to survive after the extraction of a tailed beast."

Kushina shook her head weakly. "There's no need, Ayaka. Konoha... is my home."

"You're impossible! Kushina, you're completely brainwashed!" Ayaka snapped, her voice filled with frustration. "Do you think I don't remember what happened? My parents fought to the death to protect our land. If Konoha truly cared about saving Uzushio, they would've sent someone—anyone—to help!"

Her voice grew sharper. "Even now, you still cling to the belief that Konoha is your home. Tell me, Kushina—besides you, has any other Uzumaki sought refuge in Konoha?"

Ayaka's anger flared, and her piercing gaze turned to Minato Namikaze, standing nearby. The sight of him, Konoha's Fourth Hokage, only fueled her resentment.

"Minato," Hyuga Mirai interjected, his tone almost casual. "I'd advise you not to make any sudden moves. You may have powerful techniques, but your weaknesses are just as obvious."

His gaze briefly flicked toward Naruto, then back to Minato. "This is your child, isn't it? Quite adorable. Congratulations, Minato."

Minato tensed at the comment, but Hyuga Mirai merely chuckled.

"So, Minato, I assume your goal is to seal the Nine-Tails, correct?" he continued. "That's quite the dilemma. But let's cut to the chase—I'm here to make a deal. And considering your current state, you don't really have a choice, do you?"

Hyuga Mirai held up three fingers.

"First option—I take the entire Nine-Tails. In exchange, I'll give you a way to save Kushina. She may not recover fully, but she'll live for at least another decade."

"Second option—you split the Nine-Tails using the Reaper Death Seal, making your child the new jinchuriki. A solid plan. But in that case, I take the other half. In return, I won't interfere any further."

"Third option—you can trust in your own strength, use the Reaper Death Seal, and try to kill me. Of course, it's just a possibility—not a certainty. Want to test your luck?"

Minato listened to all three choices, and he despised them all.

If it were up to him, he would have preferred for Kushina to rest peacefully after giving birth. But he was the Hokage. He couldn't simply hand the Nine-Tails over to an enemy.

At the same time, both Kushina and Naruto were in grave danger, and stopping the sealing process wasn't an option.

And as for fighting to the death… Minato wasn't confident. He wasn't even sure if he could take Hyuga Mirai down with him.

Hyuga Mirai was a master of high-speed combat, much like Minato himself. If he decided to engage in a drawn-out battle, even the Flying Thunder God technique wouldn't guarantee a quick victory.

"Don't waste time stalling, Minato," Hyuga Mirai said flatly. "Even if the Third Hokage arrives, it won't change the outcome. The Nine-Tails is mine tonight."

As he spoke, his skin took on the markings of Sage Mode, natural energy gathering around him.

"If you're struggling with your decision, I'd be happy to make it for you."

Minato clenched his fists. He had briefly considered waiting for reinforcements, but it was clear Hyuga Mirai wouldn't allow that to happen.

"Kushina… no matter what, I'll support you."

Kushina coughed up more blood, her body trembling. Seeing her like this made Minato's heart ache.

Would he sacrifice his family for the sake of the village? Or would he forsake Konoha to protect those he loved most?

As a husband and a father, the answer was clear. But as the Hokage…

Minato's head dropped slightly.

"I choose the second option."

The words left him drained, as though his very soul had been pulled from his body. He turned his head away, squeezing his eyes shut. He couldn't bear to look at Naruto. Or at Kushina.

Because if he did, he knew he would change his mind.

He was the Fourth Hokage of Konoha. No matter what, the village had to retain half of the Nine-Tails.

Ayaka Uzumaki stared at him in disgust.

"Minato Namikaze," she spat, her voice filled with venom. "You truly are a bastard."

Ayaka Uzumaki clenched her fists, furious at Minato Namikaze's decision. She was about to lash out, but Hyuga Mirai placed a hand on her shoulder, stopping her from speaking further.

"Ayaka, this is their choice. We have no right to interfere."

"...I understand, Lord Mirai," she muttered, biting back her anger. Even so, she couldn't help but feel sorry for Kushina—there had been a chance for her survival, yet Minato had refused to take it.

"Sage Art: Adamantine Barrier—Seal!"

Sensing that others were approaching, Ayaka swiftly cast an even stronger barrier to prevent any interference.

Eight Adamantine Chains, infused with senjutsu chakra, extended from her back. These were far more resilient and binding than the ones Kushina had used.

"Please, go ahead, Minato. No one will disturb you now," she said coldly.

Minato took a deep breath, then pressed his hands together in a seal.

"Seal!"

From his stomach, an invisible spectral hand emerged, reaching toward the Nine-Tails with incredible speed.

Neither Hyuga Mirai nor Ayaka could see the Shinigami standing behind Minato, but their heightened perception in Sage Mode allowed them to sense its presence. Ayaka, in particular, with her enhanced Kagura Mind's Eye, could feel the eerie force at work.

"Lord Mirai, Minato has begun the sealing process," she whispered.

Mirai nodded. "I know."

As the Shinigami dragged the Nine-Tails into its grasp, the massive beast suddenly shrank by half—its chakra being forcibly separated.

"Eight Trigrams Seal!"

With a swift motion, Minato executed the Four Symbol Seal in succession, locking half of the Nine-Tails' chakra inside his newborn son, Naruto.

Once the process was complete, Hyuga Mirai finally spoke.

"Now… it's our turn."

"You damn humans!"

Weakened after losing half its chakra, the Nine-Tails struggled against the Adamantine Chains. With Kushina turning her attention to Naruto, the restraints had loosened slightly—giving the beast an opening.

It roared in fury, raising a massive claw and swiping toward Ayaka and Mirai.

"Stupid fox, don't even think about touching Lord Mirai! Adamantine Seal!"

Ayaka's voice rang out as more chains erupted from the ground, violently tightening around the Nine-Tails and rendering it completely immobile.

"Seal it quickly, Ayaka. The Third Hokage is here!"

No sooner had Mirai spoken than Hiruzen Sarutobi and two ANBU operatives emerged from the trees. They halted abruptly at the sight before them, eyes widening in shock and confusion.

"Hyuga Mirai! What are you doing here? Are you the one behind the Nine-Tails' rampage?!"

Hiruzen's voice was filled with fury. Raising his staff—the transformed Monkey King, Enma—he swung it with all his might against the barrier. But the Adamantine Chains, strengthened with senjutsu chakra, did not budge. Instead, the impact rebounded, sending Hiruzen stumbling backward.

"You're getting too old for this, old man," Mirai remarked, sparing him only a fleeting glance before ignoring him completely.

With the Nine-Tails fully restrained, Ayaka pressed her hands together, forming a series of intricate seals.

"Four Symbol Seal!"

Sealing runes spread across the chains, creeping toward the Nine-Tails like vines.

The beast let out a furious snarl. It could feel what was coming. No matter how much it struggled, the chains would not break.

As the sealing runes engulfed its body, the Nine-Tails realized with growing dread—once it was sealed inside this woman, it would be powerless.

"Seal!"

The final command rang through the night as the sealing script surged across the Nine-Tails' form, dragging it into Ayaka Uzumaki's body.

As the last remnants of the beast's chakra settled within her, Ayaka staggered, her body suddenly feeling impossibly heavy.

"How do you feel?" Mirai asked, watching her closely.

Ayaka steadied herself, forming a hand seal to stabilize the chakra. "I'm fine, Lord Mirai," she replied. "The damn fox is struggling, but it won't be a problem. Give me a little time, and it'll behave."

Once fully adapted to the Nine-Tails' chakra, the beast would have no choice but to comply.

For now, however…

It could only seethe in silent rage.
