Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Is It Kakai or Kaikai?
Without indulging in any more bizarre antics, Xing Liu quickly demonstrated impressive efficiency.
After a period of memory organization aided by his Sharingan, Xing Liu successfully guided Kakashi to a point of rest, where he collapsed back onto the bed.
"All right, once he wakes up, he should be back to his usual self," Xing Liu remarked, wiping imaginary sweat from his brow.
"Not bad! I didn't think you had it in you. At first, I figured you were just a slacker coasting along," Tsunade said with a teasing smirk.
Tsunade, who typically paid little attention to village affairs unless it involved gambling, was seeing Xing Liu's abilities for the first time today. Of course, she had witnessed his "skills" at the gambling tables before, which mainly consisted of relying on beginner's luck—anything but actual talent.
"Heh, my powers are beyond your imagination."
"There's nothing I can't do; only things you can't think of," Xing Liu boasted, planting his hands on his hips with exaggerated pride. His expression practically screamed, I'm invincible; feel free to challenge me.
This cocky display made Tsunade's irritation, which she'd just managed to suppress, flare up again.
Seriously? You're not some young girl in her teens. Do you have any idea how ridiculous a grown man looks striking a pose like that?
"Oh? If you're so amazing, could you change my luck at gambling?" Tsunade challenged.
"I'm not asking to win every round, but could you at least make it so I win seven or eight times out of ten?"
Tsunade's infamous reputation for being the "biggest sucker" at the gambling tables was well-deserved. Her luck was so catastrophically bad that it bordered on supernatural.
If Xing Liu could improve her gambling luck, it would practically be rewriting the laws of the universe.
"Uh… Tsunade-sama, maybe you'd like to change your request to something more feasible?" Xing Liu replied with a pained expression, his earlier bravado completely gone.
Asking him to change Tsunade's gambling luck was like asking his home country's soccer team to win the World Cup—it simply wasn't within the realm of human capability.
Even with his cheat-like abilities, altering Tsunade's luck was an impossible feat. Not to mention, even the so-called "god" who sent him to this world would likely just shake their head in resignation.
"Tch! And here I thought you were impressive. Turns out you can't even handle something this simple," Tsunade scoffed, rolling her eyes dramatically.
Xing Liu could only offer an awkward laugh in response. If he truly had the power to alter fate on such a scale, he'd have long since returned to his original world.
What was the point of staying in a place like this? Sure, the gambling halls were a mild distraction, but this world was practically primitive—no electricity, no internet. Apart from eating, drinking, and sleeping, there wasn't much else to do besides playing in the dirt…
Well, sometimes playing in the dirt could result in building castles or even a Gundam.
"Knock, knock—"
The sound of someone knocking at the door pulled Xing Liu out of his wandering thoughts.
"Tsunade-sama, Xing Liu-sama, are you two finished?"
"???"
Who on earth was outside the door, and why did their phrasing sound so ambiguous?
All they'd done was help Kakashi in the hospital room. Why did it sound like something completely different?
Xing Liu instinctively glanced at Tsunade, but seeing her calm expression, he realized he was probably overthinking things.
Tsunade, on the other hand, hadn't given the ambiguous phrasing a second thought. Interpreting Xing Liu's glance as a signal to let the person in, she casually called out:
"The door's not locked. Come on in."
Her voice snapped Xing Liu out of his spiraling imagination. When the door opened to reveal a man with thick eyebrows and a forthright demeanor, he immediately realized that this must have been the one knocking.
The newcomer, Might Guy, hesitated upon entering, sensing a strange gaze directed at him. However, when he turned to look, all he saw was Xing Liu chatting casually with Tsunade.
"Did I imagine it?" Guy muttered, scratching his head in confusion.
Xing Liu, meanwhile, was trying his best to appear nonchalant as he engaged in random chatter with Tsunade, all the while marveling at how keen Guy's instincts were.
How could a single glance almost give him away?
"Tsunade-sama, Xing Liu-sama, how's Kakashi doing?" Guy asked, shifting his focus to the figure lying on the hospital bed.
In the original series, neither of these two men ever got married, right? Was their bond so deep that even reproduction seemed unnecessary?
Lost in his imagination, Xing Liu couldn't help but give Kakashi and Guy a strange look, his mind wandering to philosophical questions:
Who takes the lead here? Is it Kakai or Kaikai?
Feeling a renewed sense of being watched, Guy finally pinpointed the source of the strange gaze—Xing Liu.
"Ahem… Xing Liu-sama, why are you looking at me like that? I haven't done anything odd, have I?" Guy asked, genuinely puzzled.
"Ah, no, nothing at all," Xing Liu replied hurriedly, waving off the question. "I was just curious about the depth of your friendship with Kakashi."
Guy beamed at the mention of his bond with Kakashi, his attention successfully diverted.
"Ha! My friendship with Kakashi was forged through battles. He'll always be my eternal rival!"
