Chapter 44: Task: Find a Team Leader Stronger than Kakashi
Because of Kitazawa's reward, Naruto began doing homework as soon as he got home. But soon, a look of agony spread across his face.
When people are angry, they can do anything—except solve math problems.
Naruto scratched his head in frustration. He couldn't understand why ninjas needed to learn so much. Isn't defeating the enemy enough?
"Naruto." Sarutobi Hiruzen suddenly walked in.
"Grandpa Third!" Naruto looked up in surprise. "Why are you here?"
"I just got off work and thought I'd stop by to see you." Sarutobi Hiruzen glanced at the test paper and asked, "You're doing homework?"
"Yeah." Naruto nodded. "It's from Mr. Kitazawa. He hopes I can get into the top ten in the next monthly exam."
Sarutobi Hiruzen nodded with satisfaction. Kitazawa really was attentive.
He had only mentioned this to him two days ago, and now everything was already arranged.
"You've been with Kakashi for two days. What do you think of him?" Sarutobi Hiruzen changed the topic.
"He's great!" Naruto gave a thumbs-up. "He knows everything!"
"If you like him, I can arrange for him to be your teacher." Sarutobi Hiruzen smiled.
"Huh?" Naruto hesitated. After thinking for a moment, he said, "I still like Kitazawa-sensei better."
"You misunderstood," Sarutobi Hiruzen explained. "I didn't mean as a teacher at the Ninja Academy, but as your team leader after you graduate."
"Kitazawa-sensei can't be my teacher after graduation?" Naruto sensed something off.
"He can't." Sarutobi Hiruzen shook his head. "He has his own responsibilities."
He didn't mention the deeper reason—he didn't consider Kitazawa strong enough to lead a genin squad.
"I see." Naruto looked disappointed. "If Kitazawa-sensei can't, then I'll take Kakashi-sensei."
Sarutobi Hiruzen found his reluctant tone both amusing and a bit helpless. In Konoha, no one ever compared Kitazawa to Hatake Kakashi—the difference between them was too vast.
One was a regular Chunin instructor. The other was a once-in-a-generation prodigy who became a Jonin at twelve.
"What ninjutsu did Kakashi teach you?" Sarutobi Hiruzen asked curiously.
"I'll show you!" Naruto beamed. "You'll definitely be shocked!"
"Really?" Sarutobi Hiruzen raised a brow. "I'm the Hokage. I've seen plenty of jutsu—it's not easy to surprise me."
But the next second, he froze—two streams of blood burst from his nose.
Naruto puffed up proudly. I'm so powerful that even the Hokage got a nosebleed!
"What did you teach him, Kakashi?!" Sarutobi Hiruzen roared while covering his nose.

Meanwhile, Kitazawa had no idea Kakashi had just taken the blame for him. He had returned home with Hinata.
Also present was Hinata's bodyguard, Hyuga Tokuma, though he remained hidden in the shadows. Kitazawa was able to interact casually with Hinata thanks to Hyuga Hiashi's silent approval.
Hiashi had long tried to correct Hinata's personality himself, but his efforts had only backfired, eventually leading to the birth of Hanabi.
Now that he saw real improvement in Hinata, he chose not to interfere with Kitazawa's influence.
"Hinata." Kitazawa opened the door and smiled. "I want to hire you as a clerk for three hours to help me sell things."
"Huh?" Hinata, who had been looking around curiously, blinked in confusion.
"How about it?" Kitazawa picked up a price list from the counter. "Are you interested?"
His purpose was simple: to help Hinata practice courage. Her biggest issue was her introverted nature. Regular interactions with people could help her open up.
"I…" Hinata hesitated for a few seconds but eventually nodded.
"Here's the price list." Kitazawa handed it to her. "I'll show you around and explain the products first."
Just then, four glowing lines appeared in front of him. Kitazawa paused, stunned.
[Your lifelong rival, Uzumaki Naruto, has found a team leader. You can't fall behind.
Current Task: Before graduation, find a Team Leader stronger than Hatake Kakashi in status and strength.
Task Reward: Based on the Team Leader's identity.]
[Accept?]
A flood of reward data rushed into Kitazawa's mind. If he became Sarutobi Hiruzen's disciple, he'd learn the Five Style: Massive Combo Jutsu
With Tsunade, it was the Yin Seal: Hundred Sealings Mark. With Jiraiya, the Super Large Rasengan. With Shimura Danzo, the Inner Four Symbol Seal.
Kitazawa rubbed his temples in disbelief. Seriously, system? Is this a task for a human? You do it then!
According to Konoha's rules, a team leader is assigned after graduation, based on performance. But Kitazawa had already graduated years ago.
Technically, he could try to slip into a team, but the system's specific requirements made that impossible. Hiruzen, Tsunade, Jiraiya, Danzo—each one was hell-level difficulty.
After thinking for a while, Kitazawa felt Tsunade was his best bet…That is, if Kurama Yakumo could help cure her hemophobia.
Sighing, Kitazawa snapped back to reality and continued introducing items to Hinata. Once she was familiar, he let her take over the counter.
Hinata sat behind it nervously, eyes glued to the door. A few minutes later, a young ninja walked in.
"Welcome!" Hinata quickly stood and greeted him.
"Kitazawa-senpai, when did you hire such a cute clerk?" the young ninja asked in surprise.
"Izumo." Kitazawa smiled. "This is my student, Hyuga Hinata."
The visitor was Kamatsuki Izumo—Konoha's 'Gate God,' often seen at the Konoha entrance.
In the original story, he was a Chunin Exam invigilator and once fought Hidan and Kakuzu alongside Asuma.
"You're hiring students now?" Izumo joked. "Hinata, make sure you demand double wages from your teacher."
"Ah? I… I don't want money!" Hinata blushed and shook her head quickly.
"Alright then, what are you here to buy?" Kitazawa chuckled. "I'll give you 10% off."
"It's rare to see you so generous." Izumo's eyes lit up. "I won't be polite then, Senpai."
"Hinata." Kitazawa instructed, "Note down what he takes and calculate the total."
"Okay… okay!" Though flustered, Hinata didn't make any mistakes.
Three hours later, Kitazawa closed the store for the day.
Hinata let out a long breath of relief. As the Hyuga clan's eldest daughter, working as a clerk was a fresh experience, and she got to meet lots of people.
She had been overwhelmed at first, but now she felt much calmer.

Thursday afternoon.
Kitazawa watched Sakura climb smoothly to the top of a tree and couldn't help feeling impressed. She'd completed tree-climbing training in just four days—her chakra control was astonishing.
No wonder she would later inherit Tsunade's medical techniques and become one of the New Sannin.
[Current Task: Help classmate Haruno Sakura complete tree-climbing training.
Task Reward: Blood Coagulation Technique.]
[Task completed. Reward issued.]
Kitazawa smiled.
The blood coagulation technique felt like a freebie—what a great deal.
Uchiha Sasuke glanced at Sakura. He hadn't expected her to finish tree-climbing before him.
But… it was still annoying. He looked at the leaf in his hand. It had dried out, its moisture gone. That was all he had accomplished in four days. He had to push forward.
To surpass Uchiha Itachi and master Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique, he had to keep working.
Kitazawa arranged advanced tree training for Sakura. Unfortunately, no new task was triggered.
Finally, Friday arrived.
There were no classes in the morning—just a commendation assembly. Kitazawa returned to the office, only to see a visibly nervous Hinata waiting for him.
