Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Angel Investor Uncle Masano!!
Shigure had just finished analyzing the Genjutsu scroll with his skill interface and was about to try it out.
He wanted to see if training in Genjutsu could enhance his mental strength—
Which, in turn, could improve the efficiency of his chakra refinement technique even further.
Just then, a knock came from the door.
Shigure quickly got up and opened it.
Standing outside was Gekkō Masano, a Chūnin in his late forties.
Although his abilities were nothing extraordinary, he had always been close with Shigure's father and had looked after Shigure over the years.
Shigure was genuinely grateful to him.
"Uncle Masano! Please come in!"
"I'll go make you some tea!"
As Shigure bustled about, Masano stepped inside like he usually did—he was no stranger to this house. He visited two or three times a week.
"Yeah, sure! Add a bit more tea leaves this time!" Masano called after him casually.
"Got it!" Shigure responded promptly.
Soon, he returned with steaming cups of hot tea.
Though middle-aged, Masano still had the solid build of a seasoned shinobi.
His thick forearms alone made it clear—he was a power-type ninja.
"Shigure, you're about to graduate. This is a crucial period. You need to stay focused."
Shigure nodded earnestly.
"Thank you for your concern, Uncle Masano."
Masano reached out with his large hand and patted Shigure gently on the head.
"You've changed a bit lately—gotten sharper. That's good. Just don't keep frowning like before."
"You're still so young. What's there to be so worried about?"
Shigure smiled and nodded. "You're right."
"Good! Seeing you like this puts me at ease."
As he spoke, he pulled out a small wooden box. Inside was a modest coin purse—the kind that held monthly living expenses.
Shigure blinked in surprise.
"Uncle Masano, the money my parents left behind is more than enough…"
"How could that be?" Masano waved him off. "That's their life's savings. You'll need it when you're older—when you marry, build a home."
"What if you burn through it all now?"
He smiled warmly. "Don't worry. The Gekkō clan might not be a major family, but we can certainly support a bright kid like you."
"Thank you," Shigure said again, bowing slightly.
Masano didn't think much of it—he'd always appreciated Shigure's respectful demeanor. That was part of why he liked the boy so much.
And perhaps why he pinned such high hopes on him.
"Alright, I'll be heading off now."
He stood and made his way to the door. But just as he opened it, he turned back.
"Oh, that's right."
"I heard from Hayate yesterday—you were looking for me about a ninjutsu scroll?"
Shigure paused, then opened his mouth to say it was no longer needed.
His brother Hayate had already helped him find a Genjutsu scroll.
But before he could say anything, Masano reached into his jacket and pulled out a sealed scroll.
"Now, I don't know too many ninjutsu myself—never was a ninjutsu-type ninja," Masano said with a self-deprecating chuckle.
"But I do happen to have this one Fire Release scroll."
"Not sure if you'll be able to learn it, but give it a shot."
With a solid pat on Shigure's shoulder, he handed over the scroll and stepped out.
Shigure looked down at the Fire Release scroll in his hands.
He couldn't help but smile.
Uncle Masano really was good to him.
For a Chūnin, a ninjutsu scroll wasn't something to just give away lightly.
And yet, he did—without hesitation.
If it were the old Shigure, he probably wouldn't have been able to make use of this technique at all.
But now?
Now was different.
Shigure had always assumed his chakra possessed only basic elemental nature—
So under normal circumstances, learning Fire Release should've been out of the question.
But now… things were different.
"Can I analyze this scroll?"
[System: Analysis in progress...]
Shigure unrolled the Fire Release scroll on the table and began examining it intently.
[Analyzing...]
[Progress: 0.5%]
[Progress: 1.0%]
...
Huh?
It was only increasing by 0.5% at a time?
That was even slower than when he'd analyzed his first basic technique.
But back then, Hayate-niisan had personally demonstrated the moves for him and explained every detail.
Whenever Shigure had a question, Hayate repeated the demonstration patiently—over and over.
Now, he was working with just a static scroll.
It made sense the analysis would take longer.
'It's fine, as long as it completes eventually.'
To accelerate the process, Shigure began following the chakra molding instructions written on the scroll.
He carefully started forming hand seals while circulating chakra as described.
Sure enough, the analysis speed increased noticeably.
Still, the progress bar only crept up in 0.5% increments.
Shigure sat cross-legged from afternoon into the early hours of morning, working tirelessly.
When the progress bar reached 99%, he stared at it with red-rimmed eyes.
Just one percent left—
But this last step was proving the hardest.
An hour passed.
No movement.
Exhausted, Shigure's eyelids began to droop.
Then—
[Analysis complete.]
[Congratulations! You have acquired a new skill.]
[Fire Release: Fire Dragon Flame Bullet]
[Element Unlocked: Nature Transformation – Fire]
Huh?
He didn't just learn the jutsu—
He also unlocked a second chakra nature?
"That's... incredible."
"So I'm a dual-nature user now?"
Ordinarily, most ninja could only awaken their second elemental nature after becoming Jōnin.
And yet Shigure hadn't even graduated from the Academy.
"Fire Dragon Flame Bullet…"
A mid-to-high level Fire Release technique.
Its power was impressive—enough to severely burn or incapacitate an enemy in a single strike.
Shigure's lips curled into a satisfied smile.
"Uncle Masano… thank you. One day, I'll repay this favor a thousandfold."
But what he gained wasn't just a ninjutsu or chakra affinity.
It was the potential.
If one scroll could unlock a new nature transformation, then theoretically...
Couldn't he just collect more?
Wouldn't that mean unlocking all five elemental natures wasn't impossible?
"Now I have Fire Release and my original chakra nature..."
"Too bad it's not Earth Release."
If it had been Earth, then combining the two would unlock Wood Release—
The legendary kekkei genkai of the First Hokage.
Instead, with Fire, if the other attribute had been Water Release...
"Boil Release," Shigure muttered, eyes lighting up.
That combination could work too!
He remembered Boil Release techniques—chakra that creates corrosive vapor or superheated steam.
If he fused his natures properly, and combined them with his physical energy manipulation and stamina regeneration...
Wouldn't that make him a literal walking furnace of destruction?
He could steamroll through enemy lines like a one-man army.
He could cut a path through an entire village.
"But without another scroll, I'll have to rely purely on talent to fuse chakra natures..."
...Which was impossible for a genin-level ninja.
Even elite ninja struggled with nature fusion.
Still—if his system could analyze the fusion process as a skill...
Then maybe—just maybe—he had a shot.
Even if the process was slow, Shigure was more than willing to endure it.
[System: Fusion attempt possible. Proceed when ready.]
Even the system was encouraging him now.
"Then I have to try."
He focused his senses inward, feeling the chakra circulating through his tenketsu and coils.
He clearly remembered the chaotic consequences the last time two nature changes collided within him.
One misstep, and his chakra network might combust from the inside out.
But—
"I've already died once."
"If I don't have the guts to risk everything, I might as well give up on becoming a strong shinobi."
He clenched his fists and gritted his teeth.
"Damn it... let's do this!"
