Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Granny Can't Help
A group of children followed Tsunade to the residence, stunned by what they saw of the Senju clan.
"Did we come to the wrong place?"
One boy blurted out directly.
In these children's minds, the Senju clan represented the strongest family in the world, so their home must be luxurious beyond imagination. However, what stood before them was nothing more than an ordinary, worn-out courtyard, without a gate or any clan insignia.
If not for Tsunade leading the way, who from another village would believe this was once the legendary Senju clan?
"Hahaha, my grandfather always said back when he was alive—we Senju don't care for those formalities."
Tsunade laughed joyfully but turned cold the very next second, snapping at Akaba ahead, "Move it, Mr. Reluctant!"
I didn't volunteer for this! Baby's heart is bitter!
He let out a silent sigh, then led the way toward Mito Uzumaki's yard.
Truthfully, Akaba didn't want to meet her if he could help it, but if he didn't pay his respects soon, he'd be the one to suffer next time.
Well, I guess it's best to get this over with.
As he walked, he kept encouraging himself.
Before reaching the courtyard, just around the corner, he heard a sigh from inside: "I haven't heard from him in ages... Nobody remembers me these days, huh?"
Old?
You don't even look older than thirty—you've got no right calling yourself old!
Akaba muttered bitterly. Although she looked no older than thirty, she always spoke like a senile grandmother—truly unbearable.
"No material gifts, but I brought plenty of special ones."
He stepped into the courtyard with a sullen expression and said grumpily.
"Oh? What kind of presents?"
Mito Uzumaki rocked lazily on her chair, seemingly amused.
"Tadaa! Here are your gifts!"
With that shout, Tsunade jumped in through the gate.
The next moment, flashes of red hair appeared at the doorway—each child stepping forward shyly, their cute faces both unfamiliar and endearing.
"All of these children... are they all really here?"
Mito gasped in shock, quickly regaining her calm after a moment of surprise.
She smiled gently, sitting properly now, every inch the noblewoman—the princess of the Land of Whirlpools, the wife of the Ninja God.
"Children, come closer. Let Granny take a look at you all."
Her tone remained serene, but her slightly trembling hands betrayed her inner excitement.
The kids hesitated nervously, but Mito's beauty and warm aura immediately made them feel comfortable around her.
The cutie took the first step forward and walked toward her.
"Granny."
"So sweet! I know—you're Kyoyuki."
"You're Shina, and Chiharu..."
Mito had seen pictures of the Uzumaki children before, and now her eyes quickly matched each face with a name.
"That's all of you?"
She sounded disappointed, sadness creeping into her heart.
"Yes, only these ten children arrived in Konoha."
Tsunade understood quite well why these children came to Konoha.
At that moment, she completely empathized with Mito's feelings, but in front of the children, she couldn't show too much sorrow—even though she herself, deep down, was still just a child too.
"Little Tsunade, are they all staying here with us?"
Mito kept smiling, yet now she cared more deeply for them.
"No, Kyoyuki will stay at Akaba's house."
Tsunade said with a huff.
"Huh?"
Mito Uzumaki was taken aback, glancing at Akaba.
What kind of move was this?
She quickly understood the situation, paused for a moment in silence, then nodded and said, "I see. It's actually not a bad idea to let Uzumaki Kyoyuki stay with the Sakuma clan."
She was very clever—previously, she had just been too anxious.
As the Clan Leader's daughter, there was no way she'd be allowed to stay in Konoha under the Daimyo's jurisdiction without something like this arrangement.
"Alright, alright, I'll show everyone around first and point out where you'll be staying!"
Tsunade whisked the kids away, knowing full well that Mito wanted to have a private chat with Akaba.
The little girl followed Akaba unwillingly.
"Go have a look. These are all your family members now—you don't need to worry."
Akaba gently patted her head.
"Okay."
Looking back once, Uzumaki Kyoyuki turned around again and followed the rest of the group.
Mito lay on the chair, as if suddenly switching personas, swaying lazily before finally speaking up, "Why is she so attached to you? And you rascal, while you were in Konoha, why didn't you come visit me in person? You finally came here, but arrived empty-handed—where's your manga?"
"...".
Akaba never quite understood why Mito Uzumaki could act so gentle towards others yet treat him like this.
Could it be because I'm too handsome?
At that moment, Mito sat up.
Since Akaba was only ten years old, he stood eye-level with her sitting posture. Staring straight into his eyes, she said, "I don't know what you're thinking right now, but somehow it feels quite disrespectful, Grandma."
"How could that be? I just wanted to give Grandma a surprise."
Akaba took out the manga from his pocket—it contained sketches he had drawn in the Land of Whirlpools, specifically compiled and ready to send over to Izumi Yamano.
An original copy!
Too bad—once it was in Mito's hands, it'd be a lost cause, like a meat bun offered to a dog.
"Oh! This is the original artwork!"
Her eyes lit up as Mito immediately sat upright, her tone softening instantly, "I knew it—I always knew you were such a good kid."
How true!
A woman must be able to change her tune at the drop of a hat, otherwise how could she flip attitudes so easily?
Akaba silently grumbled inside while bravely forcing a smile onto his face, saying, "Grandma, please remember to make copies and send one to Mr. Yamano—he needs to print and publish it ASAP."
"Don't worry child. Grandma will handle this small matter for you."
Said Mito gently.
"And about Kyoyuki..."
Hesitating slightly, Akaba still went ahead and asked.
"I feel more at ease leaving Kyoyuki with you. By the way, don't let her pick up any of your lazy habits. As for the other side though... both my palms contain flesh, and Grandma really can't help anymore."
Mito explained with a soft and soothing voice.
???
When did I even ask you for help!
Akaba inwardly exclaimed in shock. He hadn't even opened his mouth yet, and this old woman went ahead and jumped to her own conclusions.
"Sigh, you must understand me—even as a grandmother, I shouldn't push her toward acceptance directly, right?"
Mito sighed.
"Grandma, please don't say anything more. Seriously..."
Akaba admitted that he indeed harbored feelings for Tsunade, and it seemed Tsunade might reciprocate a little bit too. But truly, his feelings toward Kyoyuki weren't complicated at all—he simply viewed her purely as an older brother should, perhaps mixed with a slight appreciation for beauty itself.
But none of these seemed necessary to mention to Mito Uzumaki.
Women who mastered the skill of imagination were extremely terrifying—within minutes, they could create thousands of stories on their own.
Best not to set her off!
"Well then, if there's nothing else, I'll take my leave. I need to study now. Don't disturb my rest."
Mito waved her hand dismissively.
"Thank you, Granny. I'll come visit again another day."
Akaba bolted like he was fleeing a catastrophe. This terrifying woman was a demon in sheep's clothing.
Such a waste of my drawing—
He sighed inwardly, but the thought of gaining three hundred points offered some consolation.
Three hundred points would be enough for him to exchange for the basic Sharingan.
