Chapter 349: Chapter 349: The Strength Test

Since Captain America, the US military has always sought to recreate the super soldier serum. Though they have never truly succeeded, having a successful sample like Captain America allowed them to study his preserved cell tissues and produce several inferior versions of the super soldier serum.

For example, some variants achieve effects close to Captain America's strength but require repeated injections, making them too costly.

Others only slightly enhance the human body while still being nearly as expensive as a full-fledged super soldier serum.

Some serums replicate the super soldier formula's effects but have extremely high mortality rates—only one successful transformation per several thousand attempts, making them impractical.

Regardless, these variants are at least partial successes. Given enough time and resources, it's not impossible for them to eventually replicate the original super soldier serum.

Of course, Shin has no use for such a serum. Not only is his physical fitness far beyond what the serum could enhance, but his physiology is also fundamentally different from Marvel's humans. He wouldn't experience random mutations simply from an injection.

However, these serums could be useful for his subordinates in the Marvel world. Shin fully intends to expand his influence here.

First, this world is part of a multiverse. Unless he manages to overthrow a god or the One Above All, making this his permanent base is impossible.

No matter where he goes, time flows normally in the Marvel universe, so leaving behind an organization is necessary.

Second, whether it's for scientific research or gathering rare resources, money and manpower are essential in this world. Even degraded versions of the super soldier serum would be beneficial for building his forces.

Now that Ross needed his help, Shin had no reason to be polite. He gathered decades' worth of human enhancement research from their archives.

With that secured, Shin began Ross's transformation. However, the process was less about "transforming" and more about accelerating an inevitable mutation. He supplied Ross with nutrient solutions, exposed him to controlled gamma radiation, and stimulated his latent mutation.

Additionally, Shin performed what appeared to be intricate, obscure modifications—though they were mostly for show. The most crucial step was implanting a microscopic biochip in Ross's brain.

He was careful not to interfere too much. High-ranking U.S. military officials like Ross undergo frequent medical exams, and the biochip couldn't afford to be detected. It had no control function, only passive memory monitoring.

Since it was organic and minuscule, it was practically undetectable, and because Shin didn't tamper with Ross's mind, standard psychological evaluations would find nothing unusual.

Three Days Later

A thunderous roar shook the facility as General Ross's body rapidly expanded, muscles bulging, skin turning a deep crimson.

His spinal injury, once a critical condition, healed almost instantly due to his newfound regenerative abilities. Rising to his full height, he clenched his massive fists and tested his new strength.

"Power! This is overwhelming power! I feel like I can do anything—AHHH!"

Shin casually retracted the adamantium-tipped injector in his hand, watching the transformation unfold. Observing Ross shift back into human form after a few moments, he nodded.

"Hmm… He can revert back. His cognitive functions remain intact. Seems stable enough."

Then, he raised an eyebrow. "I don't get it, though. You're just a general. No matter how strong you are, you're not Superman."

This wasn't a comic book world. While the power scaling wasn't as low as in the movies, it was far from the exaggerated levels of the comics. Even if the Hulk could be a problem, the Red Hulk's strength would only be effective against standard military forces. At best, he could take down tanks and aircraft, but against missiles, he'd still fall.

General Ross shook his head, regaining composure. He glanced warily at the injector in Shin's hand.

"What… what was that just now? How did it suppress my power so easily?" He frowned. "Can I still transform again?"

"Of course," Shin answered plainly. "That was a suppressor serum. It lowers the gamma radiation levels in your bloodstream, temporarily reverting you to human form."

He smirked. "Even though you retain your intelligence in Red Hulk form, the transformation still affects your personality—making you more aggressive, arrogant, and overly confident. You start believing you're invincible and won't want to return to your human form."

Ross's expression darkened. "That… that was exactly how I felt. For a moment, I truly believed I was unstoppable—that I should stay in that state forever. That as long as I remained the Red Hulk, I wouldn't need weapons or an army."

"Classic gamma-induced mania," Shin said matter-of-factly. "You'll have to control it yourself."

Ross was silent for a moment before nodding. "I understand. But tell me, can this process be repeated? If we could create an entire battalion of Red Hulks"

"I'm sorry, General Ross," Shin interrupted with a straight face. "Your transformation alone cost $130 million. I don't think regular soldiers need such an expensive upgrade."

Of course, the truth was different—Shin had pocketed most of that money. The only real procedure was exposing Ross to controlled gamma radiation. The rest was just an elaborate illusion to justify the cost.

Ross frowned slightly and turned to his team of researchers.

However, they, too, nodded in confirmation—thanks to Shin's subtle memory alterations and genjutsu.

"Really? That much?" Ross muttered before sighing. "Fine. Let's test my new capabilities first. If further enhancements are needed, we'll reconsider the costs."

With that, he headed toward the training facility designated for destructive testing. Once inside, he focused and initiated the transformation.

The process was clumsy at first, possibly due to the effects of Shin's suppressor serum. However, after several attempts, he gained full control over his transformation.

Now, it was time for combat trials—testing his durability, strength, speed, and more.

They started with standard firearms. Handguns, rifles, and even Gatling guns did not affect him—he barely felt them.

It wasn't until they fired an anti-material sniper rifle that his skin was even scratched. Even then, the wound was superficial and healed almost instantly.
