Chapter 44: Chapter 44
Under the overwhelming presence of Uzumaki Chito, no one dared to step forward. His chakra radiated like an immovable force, suffocating even the most seasoned warriors. Despite having faced him numerous times, Hiruzen felt the cold hand of death looming over him whenever Uzumaki Chito was near.
This man—acknowledged as the strongest in the ninja world—stood like an immortal, unshaken and untouchable.
Tsunade's eyes brimmed with emotion as she looked at Uzumaki Chito. With him standing protectively by her side, no one dared to approach. She felt a sense of safety that she hadn't known in years.
Uzumaki Chito's sneer cut through the tense silence. "Where my family's little Tsunade chooses to stay is not for you to decide," he said, his voice sharp and unyielding.
Not a single soul dared to respond. They could only stand helplessly as Uzumaki Chito turned and began to leave with Tsunade. Before departing, his icy gaze swept over the room, landing on Hiruzen.
"I despise disruptions," he said, his voice dripping with disdain. With a wave of his hand, a surge of chakra slammed into Hiruzen's soul.
The soul, which had been hazy and weakened, thickened and became more solid. However, the powerful chakra flush left traces of a sinister aura lingering around it. Hiruzen's once-clouded eyes sharpened as clarity returned.
"Where… where am I?" Hiruzen muttered, his voice trembling. His gaze landed on Jiraiya, who stared back in stunned silence. "Jiraiya… is Tsunade back?"
Jiraiya hesitated, his wide eyes betraying his shock. "Teacher, what's wrong with you?" he finally asked, realizing that something had shifted.
Hiruzen furrowed his brow. "I… something feels missing in my head," he admitted. Memories began flooding back, piecing together the events of the last few days. The more he remembered, the deeper his expression darkened.
"Danzo…" he growled, his voice laced with anger. But when he scanned the room, Shimura Danzo was nowhere to be found. The surrounding silence was damning.
Hiruzen's gaze shifted to Tsunade, who stood beside Uzumaki Chito. His face softened, and guilt flickered in his eyes. "Tsunade," he said, his voice trembling, "I was under genjutsu. Everything I said and did wasn't of my own will. But… I'm sorry. Will you still consider staying?"
The sincerity in his tone was undeniable. Hiruzen looked frail, as though the weight of his mistakes had aged him further.
Tsunade's lips pressed into a thin line. "I can forgive you," she said quietly, "but I won't take the Hokage position." Deep down, she understood that Hiruzen had been manipulated, and her anger toward him had softened. However, that forgiveness didn't extend to Konoha itself.
"You don't have to be Hokage," Hiruzen pleaded, his voice weary. "Just stay in the village. Spend some time with me, this old man."
Tsunade hesitated, torn between her lingering sense of duty and her frustration with the village. Her hands tugged at Uzumaki Chito's robes, silently seeking guidance.
"It's okay," Uzumaki Chito said softly, his voice filled with warmth as he patted her head. "Leave this to me."
He had allowed Tsunade to return to Konoha to find closure, and now that purpose had been fulfilled. There was no reason to let these scheming fools become a burden to her.
When Uzumaki Chito turned his gaze back to Hiruzen, it was icy and sharp. His presence grew colder, and the room seemed to darken.
"Hiruzen," he said, his tone cutting like a blade, "sitting on the Hokage's seat for too long has changed you. And when people change, their path as a shinobi changes too."
Hiruzen's face turned pale as the weight of Uzumaki Chito's words sank in.
"You fell under genjutsu, but even in that state, you spoke the truths buried deep in your heart. Can you deny that?" Uzumaki Chito's piercing gaze left Hiruzen unable to respond. "I don't know how the Second Hokage ever considered you his successor, but I certainly wouldn't."
The sharp rebuke cut through Hiruzen's soul like a blade. As someone who had always taken pride in being Tobirama's student, the dismissal of his worth hit harder than any physical attack.
Uzumaki Chito's gaze shifted slightly, locking onto a hidden chamber beneath Konoha. "Danzo," he said, his voice dripping with menace, "I know you're listening. Whatever schemes you're planning, I suggest you abandon them. Otherwise, your fate will mirror Hiruzen's—if not worse."
Though Danzo was out of sight, the weight of Uzumaki Chito's words reached him. Hidden deep within a concealed bunker, Danzo felt a chill run down his spine. It was a blatant threat, one he couldn't afford to ignore.
With the seals shattered and his point made, Uzumaki Chito turned to Tsunade. "Let's leave. You've done what you came to do."
Tsunade nodded, a mixture of relief and gratitude washing over her. Together, they left Konoha, leaving behind a village steeped in confusion, fear, and guilt.
