Just as Leyton and Bugs Bunny were preparing to go forward and reap heads, a bright yellow light descended from the sky, enveloping all of the poker soldiers.
Then, Leyton saw that the injuries on these poker soldiers were healing rapidly at a visible rate. Leyton's mouth twitched. After fighting for a long time and finally crippling the opponents, they were completely healed by a collective healing spell.
"They have temporarily gained immunity to Fear and Sacred Oath effects," Mr. Hughes's voice echoed faintly in Leyton's ears.
Leyton felt speechless, directly targeted. Immunity to Fear and Sacred Oath was clearly designed to counter his and Bugs Bunny's previous tactics.
Leyton was about to complain a bit more when he suddenly felt his Spirituality recovering at an extremely fast rate.
"Hmm? Can we also recover our state?" Leyton wondered inwardly.
"Boss, it seems my strength has recovered again!" Bugs Bunny said in disbelief.
"Yes, I've recovered too. Let's retreat a bit, those poker people have been strengthened," Leyton nodded and said.
Hearing that their opponents were strengthened, Bugs Bunny quickly retreated a considerable distance. Leyton also retreated while beginning to Mimic the abilities of a Wind-Blessed.
The moment the bright yellow light that was healing the poker soldiers dissipated, several thin wind blades shot out from in front of Leyton. The wind blades sliced across the bodies of the poker soldiers in front, leaving many cracks of varying depths.
Sacred Oath had temporarily increased the strength and agility of these poker soldiers. Although Leyton's Mimicry of wind blades was unexpected, it failed to inflict fatal wounds.
"Boss, it seems like there are a few less of these poker people," Bugs Bunny said with some confusion from behind.
"Yes, it should be that the huge fireball just now directly blew up a few poker people, and they didn't get to receive the later healing," Leyton also noticed this.
"So, should we continue to blow them up like before?" Bugs Bunny immediately asked.
"Let's wait a bit and let the Sacred Oath effect on them wear off, otherwise, we won't be able to keep them pinned down for too long," Leyton shook his head.
However, a blessing bestowed by an Angel wouldn't last for a short duration no matter how one thought about it. Leyton was already beginning to contemplate new strategies in his mind.
"This is so frustrating. Most of the knowledge Mr. Hughes gave me is from the Omniscient and Omnipotent Five Pathways, yet more than half of it is directly rendered useless by these two blessings," Leyton grumbled to himself.
"Flexibly apply knowledge, and break through adversity; that is also a kind of wisdom! If you want to extend the exam time, then perform well!" Mr. Hughes's voice directly sounded in Leyton's mind.
"Uh…" Leyton was speechless for a moment. An Angel was actually threatening him with an exam.
"Slow," Leyton uttered a word in Devil language full of corrupt and Fallen meaning.
The movements of all poker soldiers within a seven to eight-meter radius instantly stiffened and paused.
Bugs Bunny, standing not far behind Leyton, reached out a paw and covered its long ears, which it couldn't fully cover. The sound that came out of its boss's mouth just now was very unpleasant, making its rabbit fur stand on end.
"Fallen," another word in Devil language full of corrupt and Fallen meaning. The bodies of the surrounding poker soldiers were covered with a slightly viscous black liquid, which was continuously corroding their bodies.
Three pale blue fireballs, emitting a strong smell of sulfur, directly attacked the three poker soldiers closest to Leyton. They exploded right in their faces, severely injuring these three poker soldiers. The splashing flames, contaminating nearby poker soldiers, also brought a poisoning effect.
"Charge! Engage them in close combat and break them apart," Leyton turned and said to Bugs Bunny behind him.
Subsequently, a dense black mist emanated from Leyton's back, forming a pair of ethereal bat wings. At the same time, an extra section of his right fingernail grew out, adorned with mysterious symbols and patterns.
Leyton consecutively used two Darkness-type spells that a Sanguine could master: Wings of Darkness, which increased the user's speed and granted temporary flight, and Corrosive Claws, which were extremely sharp and possessed powerful corrosive abilities.
Leyton's figure almost became an afterimage, instantly approaching the three poker soldiers who had been severely wounded by the sulfur fireballs. With one claw each, he dispatched them.
Relying on the speed boost and temporary flight ability provided by Wings of Darkness, Leyton constantly moved among the poker soldiers, striking with a claw whenever an opportunity arose. He didn't aim for significant damage, only to corrode and continuously weaken them.
Seeing that the poker soldiers were directly scattered by his boss, Bugs Bunny was no longer so timid. It pushed off with its legs and charged forward. The Planter's strength enhancement was already significant, and Bugs Bunny's charging speed was even comparable to Leyton's speed under the effects of Wings of Darkness.
Using Wind Manipulation to create a tailwind, increasing its speed, and with a burning effect on both claws, Bugs Bunny directly crashed into a poker soldier. Then, both the poker soldier and it were sent flying backward simultaneously. The agile fat rabbit distorted its body in mid-air to adjust its landing posture.
On the other side, the poker soldier that was knocked away had two charred marks on its chest. Before it even landed, it was cut in half by an exaggerated greatsword composed of crimson magma and pale blue flames.
Leyton appeared there with Wings of Darkness, wielding a magma sword condensed by Mimicry of a Devil's ability, while a pale blue fireball emitting a strong sulfur smell appeared in his other hand.
Before the sulfur fireball in his hand could be thrown, it was forcibly dispelled. The magma sword in his other hand and the Wings of Darkness behind him were also dispelled at the same time.
"That's enough, the test effect has been achieved," Mr. Hughes's voice sounded.
The poker soldiers, whether lying down or struggling, gradually became transparent until they disappeared.
Leyton shrugged. The feeling of mowing down enemies like that was somewhat addictive.
"You seem to have discovered a new use for this ring?" Mr. Hughes's figure emerged, looking at Leyton, who clearly still seemed to want more, and asked curiously.
"Yes, with this ring, I can directly leverage the power of the Spirit World, reducing my own Spirituality consumption to a very low level," Leyton nodded, explaining why he had just become a ruthless casting Robot.
"Hmm, anything else?" Mr. Hughes nodded and continued to ask.
"I also gained an ability similar to Mystical Reenactment, but it doesn't draw power from the occult knowledge I possess. Instead, it draws power from widely circulated stories that I participated in or created," Leyton explained in detail.
He then added, "It must be something that brings sufficient influence, or a story that can evoke my own resonance also works, but the effect will be greatly reduced."
"It's a bit like the derivation of civilization. Perhaps it's not drawing power from stories, but rather receiving feedback from people who know the stories, and thus drawing power," Mr. Hughes pondered for a moment and quickly made an analysis.
"Receiving feedback from people who know the stories… This is a bit like Acting, getting feedback and digesting the potion," Leyton quickly reacted.
"You react very quickly! This might be a special ability derived from the Acting Method, adjusted and changed based on that inspiration," Mr. Hughes praised.
"Huh? Isn't this the derivation of civilization? Is it not the ability of a Authority?" Leyton was surprised by Mr. Hughes's words.
"Authority is just Authority; how it's used varies from person to person. For example, Amon, he almost exploited the Authority of Deceit to its extreme. And then there's Steam; his Authority was only perfected with Roselle's help," Mr. Hughes boldly used True Gods as examples to explain the application of Authority to Leyton.
Leyton felt that this Mr. Hughes likely wielded a Grade 0 Sealed Artifact with Hidden effects, or he could Mimic corresponding Hidden abilities. Otherwise, casually mentioning Amon and Steam like that was indeed quite bold.
However, Mr. Hughes's explanation was easy to understand, and Leyton could pretty much guess the origin and function of this ring's ability.
This should be an application of Knowledge Moor's Authority of Civilization, perhaps even a means to deal with Steam. The Paragon inherently represents the knowledge and civilization of the real world.
"You seem to have thought of something," Mr. Hughes said to Leyton in a gentle tone.
"Yes, I can roughly understand what this ring is," Leyton nodded in reply.
"Its reliance on the Spirit World is very high. The best way to use it should be to establish a suitable stronghold in the Spirit World, then leave the ring's main body, with sufficient authority, in the Spirit World. By leveraging the Spirit World's characteristic of completely overlapping with the real world yet not interfering with each other, its influence can be spread throughout the world," Mr. Hughes offered a suggestion.
He then added, "This can also strengthen the connection between the ring and the Spirit World after it is projected onto an individual, as well as isolate most of the information corruption from the Spirit World, allowing ordinary people who are not Beyonders to bear and use it."
Leyton pondered for a while and had to admit that the method proposed by Mr. Hughes was the optimal solution he could think of at present.
"But how do I establish a stronghold in the Spirit World? And I don't even know where the main body of this ring is!" Leyton said helplessly.
The method was good, but he couldn't do any of it.
Leyton didn't know if this ring had a main body, but even if it did, it would be with Knowledge Moor, still sealed on the Western Continent.
"Isn't the main body of this ring on you? As for a stronghold in the Spirit World, I can't do that either. To withstand such a massive information flow, only Angels of the Hermit and Paragon Pathways might be able to do it," Mr. Hughes replied.
This answer left Leyton a bit bewildered. Could it be that the ring was the main body when he meditated? Then where was it when he wasn't meditating? And Angels of the Paragon and Hermit Pathways, are those people I can find?
"You still have another choice," Mr. Hughes said again when he saw Leyton's complex expression and silence.
"What choice?" Leyton asked curiously.
"Pray to my Lord," Mr. Hughes replied.
Leyton was speechless. This person's status was even further beyond what he could possibly ask for help from, and now it also involved the Authority of Civilization of Knowledge Moor. Leyton dared not easily let other True Gods interfere.
