Chapter 15: The Tournement

Mikeee!" Giel shouted. It was confirmed that the tournament would start today at 8 PM and end at 1 AM.

Qualifying round:

Win 3 rounds

Semi-final

Final

"I'm going to train now," Giel said.

"Come with me, Mike," he added.

They trained.

And eventually… the time had come.

WELCOME to this year's Tournament of the Instructor Sals!

(The tournament took place in a large arena hall on the island.)

Before we begin, I'd like to explain the rules.

The fights will be chosen randomly, so yes, it's possible that

Sal-1 could face Sal-B.

In this tournament, the goal is to knock your opponent out of the arena.

Each fight lasts 10 minutes.

Knockout = loss

Death = disqualification

So let's get started, and good luck!

Declared Commander Dasus.

Yes, the fights began.

You had to win 3 matches to qualify for the semifinals,

Where 4 fighters would face off.

Then the two winners of the semifinals would move to the finals.

"I think I understand the rules," said Kad.

Mike thought to himself,

"Kad, why are you joining? You know you don't stand a chance…"

He was worried about his friend.

"Kad, listen…" Mike started.

But then Mike noticed how determined Kad looked.

"GOOD LUCK!" shouted Mike.

Kad replied, "Thanks. You too, you've got this—"

"Yeah!" said Mike confidently.

The first matches began.

They weren't very exciting… until—

Next match:

Giel vs Fur

Fur was some Sal-2 guy.

I shouted: "Giel, you've got this!

This was Giel's second fight.

In his first round, he had gone up against some random Sal-1.

Poor Sal-1…

Oh well.

"Begin!"

Giel grabbed Fur.

Fur grabbed Giel.

They pressed against each other, trying to push the other out of the arena.

Giel was being pushed backward—but he managed to counter it by pushing harder.

Both of them were starting to weaken.

Then—Giel's hand began to glow.

He jumped back.

"Hey Fur, you know what my magic is?"

"GRAVITY MAGIC!"

He hurled Fur into the air and off to the side.

Fur smirked.

"Yeah, I know.

Mine's WIND MAGIC."

A storm shot from his hands—straight toward Giel.

Fur saved himself by blasting wind at the wall, pushing himself back into the arena just in time.

The storm hit Giel—he couldn't react.

He was blown right out of the arena, landing in the corner of the hall.

Fur laughed:

"Well, maybe because your magic is gravity… you just fell, loser."

Giel didn't reply.

He just walked over to me.

He said only one thing:

"Take that mutt down."

I answered:

"Definitely."

Then he walked away.

After a few more matches, it was finally my turn.

Unfortunately, my opponent was a Sal-0 rank—so nothing serious.

But I had to make it to the semi-finals if I wanted to face Fur.

I told Giel I'd be the one to throw him out—but wind magic is seriously annoying,

Of course, I won.

But after my match—

Oh no…

The next fight:

Kad vs Lasa.

Starting shortly.

I saw Kad.

He looked at me—completely shaken.

I ran over to him.

"Uh, Kad… you have to fight Lasa."

Then it hit me—

If she wins, I might have to fight her too.

Kad answered,

"Y-yeah… I saw it."

The match began.

Kad took a step back, then launched himself out of the arena.

Commander Dasus said,

"Well… that's one way to handle it."

Glus looked a little disappointed.

Winner: Lasa

After a few more matches, I had won all three of mine—

I had made it to the semi-finals.

Good.

But… so had Lasa.

I gotta admit, she really made it through.

Semi-Finalists:

Fur

Mike

Lasa

Has

Oh man…

Has was a Sal-A.

Could I really take him on?

They drew the matchups.

Lasa vs Has

Mike vs Fur

Oh, thought Mike.

This is… good for me,

but bad for Lasa.

She didn't stand a chance.

After all—she's a healer.

The first match:

Lasa vs Has

Has and Lasa looked at each other.

"I'm sorry, girl…"

"LIGHT BEAM!"

W-what was she supposed to do…?

The light beam hit her —

she was blasted out of the arena, but the attack didn't stop.

She was blown through a wall.

"Medics! Hurry!"

She was carried away.

Has… did you really have to go that hard?

I thought to myself.

He clearly wasn't taking any chances.

Next match — and the final of the semi-finals:

Mike vs Fur

Fur and Mike locked eyes.

"Fur… I told Giel I'd throw you out.

And I will."

BEGIN!

Mike dashed forward at lightning speed—

but Fur had placed two storms in front of himself.

Mike was caught in them but managed to stay in the arena.

How am I supposed to get close to him?

He couldn't use his wolves—

there would be too many questions.

Fur HP: 1000

Hint: when he's about to cast a spell, his eyes glow gray for one second.

It was true—

his eyes glowed gray.

He launched wind orbs at Mike—

Mike jumped over them.

Then Mike charged forward, grabbed Fur, and tried to throw him out.

But Fur used wind from his hand—

they were both lifted into the air, tumbling out of the arena.

"You idiot!" Mike shouted.

"We're both going to fall!"

Fur just smirked.

"Too bad. Looks like you can't keep your promise."

They were just about to hit the ground—

"BITE!" Mike yelled.

Bite appeared from the side and shoved Mike back into the arena just in time.

Fur hit the ground.

From the crowd, Mike heard:

"What??"

"What was that?"

"How did he do that?"

"What just happened?!"

Mike had no choice—

this move revealed that he used summoning magic.

Which… technically wasn't wrong.

WINNER… wait. We need to confirm whether that counts as external assistance.

NO. Since Mike has no other powers and used only his own strength

it is allowed.

The winner is… MIKE.

And the final is now set.

It will begin in 20 minutes.

Mike wondered… could he defeat Has and his light magic?

He was allowed to be alone in a cabin for the next 20 minutes.

He went through everything in his mind.

"What do I have available right now?"

Wolf Strike.

And… wait—THAT'S IT?!

Pack Bite were off-limits,

since using this attack would transform his teeth and reveal his secret.

And the fact that he summoned Bite during the last battle only worked

because he did it at the very end and fought the rest with just his fists.

So, things looked bad for Mike.

Just one attack?

What could he use against Has?

The fight begins.

Has said,

"Sorry Mike, I want to win this."

Mike answered,

"Don't hold back, huh."

Everyone watched.

He was supposed to be a Sal 2—why did he say that? Even Glus looked confused.

"Let's go!"

They were lightning fast, attacking each other so quickly that no one could really follow what was happening.

People only heard,

"That's not a normal Sal of rank 2."

"He's way stronger!!"

Wolf strike, wolf strike—one missed because Has was fast enough, but one hit his stomach and he spat blood.

Light beam, light bubble, light shield.

Mike was surprised.

Has fought smart.

He had created a light bubble covered by a shield while a light beam came toward Mike. Mike said, "Not bad," dodged the light beam, and jumped up.

System message:

"Do you want to power up your Wolf Strike?"

"Yes, but then you have to give up all your endurance for today."

I said yes.

Endurance: 1

I hit the shield—broken.

The bubble burst.

Has was hit right in the stomach; he fell quickly through the wall, and even outside, he fell a bit further.

"Wow, that's what I call a finisher," said Dasus.

The winner is Mike. The prize will be announced shortly.

I fell down, couldn't even move.

I fainted.

And the last thing I heard was Glus saying,

"We have to rank him up again—he defeated an A-rank so fast."

I woke up. I was in a hospital bed.

I saw Kad, Giel, Lasa, and Glus standing nearby.

Glus spoke …mike
