Chapter 60: Chapter 60 - Prologue; Complications
The entire world was thrown into chaos by the sudden disappearance of an entire piece of the planet.
The vast Indian Ocean, once a deep and serene mantle of endless waters, simply... vanished.
Kilometers of open sea were replaced by a terrifying void, a colossal crater of parched earth, flaming cracks slicing through the ground like scars of the apocalypse itself.
The news spread faster than any previous catastrophe. Coastal cities, once thriving with maritime trade, plunged into chaos. People ran through the streets in panic, eyes wide, shouting about angry gods and forgotten prophecies, recited with fervor by tongues that no longer knew why they feared.
The global network collapsed under the weight of images broadcast by military helicopters: where the ocean's blue once lay, now only the arid, sickly color of despair remained.
Governments fell silent. Scientists got lost in disjointed theories. Religions resurged with force, proclaiming the end of times.
But what stood out most wasn't the fear.
It was the silence.
A strange... unsettling silence.
A silence that, little by little, gave shape to something even more disturbing: forgetfulness.
One day, the entire world was talking about the event.
The next, almost no one seemed to care.
It was obvious that this was the work of Chaldea, the mysterious organization that, until then unknown, emerged into the public eye just hours after the event that paralyzed the planet.
The "Strongest of Humanity" had brought his organization into the public light. And he did so in his own way: hypnotizing presidents of various nations and forcing the official recognition of Chaldea as a global organization.
Now, in the eyes of the world, Chaldea was formally listed as a United Nations agency, an organization of international prestige. All that ordinary people knew was that it was a place where the greatest scientists in the world worked for the future of humanity.
And as for the ocean catastrophe?
Well... Chaldea, during an interview when it was announced, gave a vague explanation:
"A meteor struck that region."
A speech delivered with a slight touch of hypnotic magic, which also made everyone ignore any other consequences of the disappearance, like the deafening sound of lightning in that area that traveled thousands of kilometers or the heat that dried up the water in neighboring cities...
It was enough.
The global panic vanished like the sea that was gone.
But that was with ordinary people.
The supernatural factions were still in an uproar.
After all, one of the Ten Strongest Beings in the World, the legendary Hindu God, Indra... had been defeated.
And the most shocking part: defeated by someone until then unknown. Someone who, to the astonishment of factions around the world, was part of Chaldea, the same organization that had been rapidly growing in influence in recent times.
Indra survived the confrontation but was gravely injured. According to some leaked reports, he only escaped death thanks to the quick intervention of his subordinates.
The truth is that the battle between the two was the real reason behind the disappearance of the Indian Ocean.
But how did the factions discover that the man who defeated Indra was part of Chaldea?
Simple: investigation... and the fact that it was never kept a secret.
In fact, it was as if the Human Faction itself wanted the world to know. As if they were sending a clear and direct message: "We're not here to play."
And the rest of the factions understood the message loud and clear.
With two of the Ten Strongest Beings in the World among its members, Chaldea ceased to be just a promise and became a powerhouse. Few now had the courage to challenge its rules...
The world was starting to change more and more...

.
.
.
The room was shrouded in darkness, illuminated only by the bluish and greenish lights of the countless monitors lined up in front of him. The constant hum of server fans filled the space, mingling with the faint clinking of ice melting in a glass.
Kazuya brought the mug to his lips, the strong aroma of freshly brewed coffee mixing with the cold smell of electronics. His snow-white hair, rebellious and slightly disheveled, hid part of his eyes, those same supernatural blue eyes.
On the screen in front of him, real-time graphs, satellite feeds, and files from supernatural factions scrolled endlessly, displaying reports that would drive anyone insane just trying to keep up.
He didn't seem bothered.
In fact... he seemed bored.
It had been two days since he visited the Angel Faction and formed an alliance with them. After a fun outing with Gabriel, he returned home and discovered that Karna had returned from his mission. After hearing the report from his favorite Lancer (don't let Ereshkigal or Artoria know that), he decided to take a step forward and bring Chaldea into the public eye, invading the residences of presidents and hypnotizing them to give full support to his organization.
After doing so, he leaked the information that it was one of his subordinates who defeated Indra, further consolidating Chaldea's strength.
He dealt with the politics that came with Chaldea's new position and gained possession of the city of Kuoh from the Japanese government (not caring that this would cause problems with the Japanese Gods Faction and the Demon Faction...).
Moreover, during the last two days, he was also busy handling matters related to his alliance with the Angels and even the Fallen Angels.
Azazel handed him half of his research on the Sacred Gears he was studying, and in return, he showed the Balance Breaker of his Longinus. During that meeting, he ended up fighting Vali again and winning easily as before, and he also met some rather interesting people...
As for the Angel Faction, Gabriel visited him again yesterday and handed him Ascalon, which was in Heaven's possession, on her brother's orders; he obviously didn't refuse.
Dealing with politics and everything else wasn't the only thing he did during those two days. He obviously used his daily rolls in the [Fate Gacha] and got nothing interesting, just items useless in his eyes, ranging from Tamamo no Mae's bra to several others—his bad luck had returned in full force...
He trained with Artoria Lancer and even Karna to get stronger in using his abilities and spent some chill time with his Servants (Salter, Jalter, Ishtar, Ereshkigal, Skadi, and Scáthach hadn't returned yet and were carrying out his orders).
And now here he was, in his observatory, watching everything happening around the world.
A sigh escaped his lips.
He lightly tapped one of the keyboard keys.
"Good morning, Master..." said a soft, almost playful voice.
Next to the keyboard, a three-dimensional projection took shape. Perfectly aligned red hair, golden eyes like those of a beast on the prowl. A faint smile that never revealed the true intention behind each word. It was Minerva, his personal AI. Visually, she was a faithful replica of Makima from the Chainsaw Man manga... and deliberately so.
"Good morning, Minerva. Any urgent reports...?"
"No, none, Master. The factions seem to have calmed down a bit, but some are taking measures to avoid further involvement with humans..."
Kazuya let out a sigh, running his fingertips over his face before placing the empty mug back on the table.
"That's good... But I don't think this situation will last long. Many factions are dissatisfied with 'powerless primates' having a powerful faction. I foresee many of them will ally in the near future to create an alliance on par with Chaldea, which is inevitably becoming a growing giant..."
"...As expected of you, Master. That's what my constant observations indicate..." Minerva said with a slight smile, crossing her arms.
"Oh...? They're already showing signs of it? That was sooner than I expected." Kazuya wasn't surprised. "Can you tell me which alliances are taking shape...?"
"The Aztec Gods are joining forces with the Mayan Gods and even the Brazilian Gods... Quetzalcoatl and Huitzilopochtli met with Tupã in Mexico and discussed the alliance. Apparently, it was easy because they didn't have any deep disagreements compared to the three major Biblical Factions. They'll probably announce it officially in the coming days, but in the discussion, they included a non-aggression pact with humans, not wanting to become a target of your organization, Master..."
"On the other hand, the Greeks are trying to contact Asgard. Zeus scheduled a meeting with Odin but hasn't succeeded so far..."
"The Egyptians don't have much connection with humans other than the pharaohs or their descendants, but they're even considering allying with another faction that doesn't go against their interests..."
"The Japanese Gods have contacted the Five Main Clans and are plotting something..."
"Meanwhile, the Chinese have withdrawn and aren't planning to do anything..."
"The Old Satan Faction has started moving in the Underworld, already allied with another faction I haven't identified yet..."
"And finally, the Hindu Faction seems to have gone silent after you defeated Indra. Shiva seemed somewhat interested in meeting you..."
Minerva made a very human gesture for an AI and cracked a joke: "In short, all the factions are still freaking out over everything..."
"They'll keep freaking out. It's what factions do..." Kazuya muttered, emotionless, as his eyes returned to the screen. "And what about Shuten and the Youkai Faction...?"
Minerva's smile widened.
"Shuten and Yasaka are currently at a hot spring, drinking and chatting... The two seem to have gotten close..."
"...That's not surprising." Kazuya's lips twitched. "I figured that might happen, considering Shuten Douji's status as one of Japan's Three Great Monsters. I think she'd get along with the leader of this world's Youkai. Yasaka must have been through some tough times. My dear Oni isn't easy to deal with. I feel sorry for her..."
"And Salter and Jalter?"
"They got into trouble with a human magical organization and lost sight of their mission. Now they're searching for this world's Heroic Faction..."
"...I don't think it was a good idea to let those two go off alone... I can't even imagine what Ishtar, Eresh, and Skadi are up to..."
"Oh! Those three ended up getting involved with Nyx and Erebus while trying to kidnap the boy you requested. After a confrontation caused by Ishtar, the target escaped... Now they're tracking him down..."
Kazuya let out a sigh upon hearing Minerva's words. He grabbed another mug, poured more coffee, and asked, "And Shishou...?"
"Still investigating..." Minerva gave a small chuckle, crossing her legs elegantly, even though she was just a hologram.
Although he could ask his Servants directly through their mental Master-Servant link, he preferred hearing the reports from his beloved technological creation.
Putting that aside, he opened his unique ability. It was time to roll again.
Plim.
[Saint Quartz: 9/100 (daily recharge)]
[Would you like to perform a summon? [Yes / No]]
After clicking "Yes," Kazuya stared at the floating window with the most deadpan expression possible.
Plim.
[You received "Gilgamesh's Socks"!]
The silence in the room grew heavy.
He simply brought his hand to his forehead, covering his eyes for a brief moment.
A long, resigned sigh escaped his lips.
"...I should've known."
Kazuya grabbed the coffee mug, downed the rest in one go, and placed it back on the table with a dull thud. The summon window remained floating in the air, mocking him with the pixelated image of a pair of luxurious golden socks, adorned with small lion patterns embroidered in gold thread.
Socks. Gilgamesh's socks.
The King of Heroes, the most arrogant man in history, and he'd just gotten the guy's damned socks.
Again.
Kazuya slowly ran his hand over his face.
Minerva, watching the scene without understanding the reason for the sigh, tilted her head slightly, her usual subtle smile on her face.
"Something wrong, Master?"
"No. Just... the world's idiocy..." he muttered.
Minerva let out a light, innocent chuckle.
"These monkeys can't compare to you, Master..."
After saying that, she returned to her work of monitoring all the screens (though her projection avatar didn't need to be there for that, she still wanted to keep her father company through it...).
Kazuya's lips twitched as he set the mug down and leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling. The Fate Gacha was, without a doubt, the most cursed ability he'd ever possessed. As much as it was responsible for bringing legendary heroes and insane abilities to his side... its rate of bad luck for completely useless items was, at the very least, historically unmatched.
It seemed to get worse every time!
Gilgamesh was probably laughing somewhere in the Throne of Heroes.
Kazuya let his eyes close for a moment.
"Socks..." he repeated. "I'm going to shove these socks in that bastard's face the next time I summon him..."
Minerva just kept smiling, completely oblivious to what had just happened, and continued working.
Kazuya stayed silent for a few more seconds, staring at the ceiling as if questioning every decision that had led him to this point.
He raised his finger and tapped the floating window again.
Plim.
[You received "Instinct: A+"]
The faint golden glow of that notification made his eyebrows arch.
He leaned forward in his chair.
...Hm?
A slight, crooked smile appeared at the corner of his lips.
Finally, something worthwhile. He mentally clicked the fusion option.
The golden glow spread through his body, a faint sensation of warmth running through his nerves, like a subtle snap in his spine, and then... it vanished.
Kazuya rolled his shoulders and neck, closing his eyes. As expected, his perception of space and potential threats felt sharper, the world becoming a bit clearer, as if he could predict half a second ahead of every movement.
It wasn't a grandiose ability on paper... but for him, who was already on another level, it just made the absurd even more absurd.
And yet...
He opened another roll.
Plim.
[You received "Cu Chulainn's Scarf"]
Kazuya dropped his head onto the table.
...His bad luck was back!
"I must've screwed Odin's mom..." he muttered, staring at the pixelated scarf on the screen. "I swear... if this keeps up, I'll end up wearing all this junk at once just to see if I can break the stats of this idiot system..."
Minerva noticed his grumbling.
"Something happened, Master?"
"Nothing..." Kazuya shot back, closing the window with a tap and leaning back again.
Tch... at least the Instinct was worth it.
He grabbed the cold coffee, drank it without flinching, and went back to reviewing the reports.
Later today, he'd have to deal with some matters related to his new global position.

(A/N: Author's Note
Yo, everyone! The author here. 👋
This chapter served as an important transition point, solidifying Chaldea's new status as a global superpower, now officially recognized by the United Nations after that small incident involving the disappearance of the Indian Ocean (and Indra's beatdown, of course 👊).
I gave a glimpse of how the supernatural and mortal factions reacted — and as expected, normal humans are being manipulated to forget while the supernatural underworld is boiling behind the scenes. New factions like the Aztec, Mayan, and Brazilian Gods, as well as the Japanese, Greek, Egyptian, Hindu Gods and even Asgard have begun to move, and some alliances are forming. It's the beginning of a much bigger supernatural political web that will weave itself into the upcoming arcs.
As for Kazuya, he keeps dealing with his terrible luck in the Fate Gacha (R.I.P. for Gilgamesh's socks 🧦✨) while his Servants run wild around the world. Karna's back, Gabriel brought him a gift, Salter and Jalter went MIA during a mission, and Ishtar's crew managed to pick a fight with Greek primordial gods… in other words, everything's perfectly normal.
The next two chapters will be a bit calmer, with character interactions between Kazuya, his Servants, local factions, and a little more of the day-to-day life in Kuoh now under Chaldea's control. There'll be a mix of comedy, slice of life, and important political conversations to set the stage for the next arc.
With Shuten Douji and Yasaka finally stepping into the spotlight, more trouble brewing in Japan, and a few heavy names joining the game.
So — what did you all think about these new alliances taking shape? Which faction do you think will be the first to screw things up? 👀 I'd love to hear your guesses.
