My System has a Glitch

Chapter 34: The Gold-adder

The Gold adder, capable of stretching and contracting, capable of flattening itself and enlarging its width but much worse it could kill with a single bite and almost instantly.

Your shield must be up to level nine and above to survive an attack from it but even with that it would still cost you a whole lot of time.

That's all that he had read about it and even then it terrified him, then he glanced at the line of text on the encyclopedia that reassured him, his chance of encountering one were very slim but now he was being crushed by it .

His bones were starting to hurt, he could hear Ingrid groan, but still he couldn't move an inch no matter how hard he tried.

William did the only thing he could do, he sunk his teeth into the body of the snake with a fierce bit. He clenched his jaw as hard as he could but nothing came of it but violent hissing and more squeezing.

The air was being squeezed out of his lungs and he was quickly going unconscious then,

[GliTcH] [GliTcH] [GliTcH] [GliTcH]

[GliTcH] [GliTcH] [GliTcH]

[GliTcH] [GliTcH] [GliTcH]

[GliTcH] [GliTcH] [GliTcH]

'What's going on!?' Willaim was stunned by the sudden notices that filled his vision. 'What's this?'

[ACTIVATE]

[YES] [NO]

'Activate what?'

William had no idea what was going on anymore.

[YES] [NO]

The options flickered over and over and mirrored his urgency. He choosed [YES] as the snake strangled the little bit of life left in him.

Instantly he felt a Jolt of a very strange energy, unlike anything he'd ever felt before. He had this growing sensation, like he was increasingly becoming lighter and lighter.

Then a stream of electricity ran through his body and he floated, he floated right through the body of the snake that had bonded him.

He could hear ingrid suffering as the snake coiled itself around her and he couldn't take it, he didn't even care he was floating he was far too angry seeing her like that.

Via his intent the Guide provided him with his only weapon, the brass knuckles.

The brass knuckle wrapped around his fingers and he clenched his fist, he had no idea at first but his hand was completely covered with electricity and with one swing of his fist he punched the body of the snake right at the loops it had used to trap him in.

His blow shook the tree and a parade of leaves rained down on him but William wasn't done. The snake began uncoiling itself from the tree but William caught it again with another rocking punch.

The electricity ran tore through the snake's tough skin and blood gushed out of several parts of its body.

William hadn't seen the head of the snake yet but when he turned he saw Ingrid was free. She was unconscious and slowly slipping off the tree.

He quickly ran to her and caught her before she fell but suddenly the branch dipped down. Willaim looked back and saw the part of the branch where he had punched the snake.

He saw blood sipping into a growing crack in the branch. It was a tough tree but his punch had nearly broken it in two.

Willam quickly looked around for the snake but it was completely gone.

"Where is it? Where is hiding?"

The golden rings around the tree were completely gone too, now it looks just like every other black tree in the forest.

The branch dipped down again taking them closer to the snakes. 'This thing's going to break anytime soon, I've got to get her out of here.'

He looked at the bridge he had told her to jump unto. It was going to be a tricky jump with her unconscious but he had no other choices.

"We can't stay here anylonger."

William pulled her up and cradled her in his arms then he braced himself and jumped.

It was about five feet down plus the rope bridge would be quite unstable,it could swing badly, causing them to fall and with him holding onto Ingrid he wasn't sure if he could grab hold of the ropes on time.

[-3hours]

"What!?"

The notice appeared as he jumped off the branch, it stunned him, throwing off his focus and causing him to lead them into a bad landing.

'Oh no!' Willaim thought as the ladder stretched downward to accept their combined weight and the impact causing Ingrid to spill out of his arms.

He tried to grab hold of her and he did but the swing of the bridge threw her to the edge and gravity pulled her off the bridge but he kept his grip on her while he dangled over the edge.

"Damn it, I'm slipping."

He was trying to pull her against gravity but he was quickly losing.

"There's only one thing left to do."

He pushed his body off the opposite side of the bridge. Now they were both dangling off the edge with gravity pulling both of them at both sides, which only prolonged his grip on her but now they were being pulled separately and apart.

"I don't know if this will hold… but it's all I've got left." he said to himself knowing full well that if he hadn't carried out his flawed idea she would be at the bottom of the snake pool by now.

"Come on wake up Ingrid! Wakeup!" William yelled. The sweat in his fingers were making it harder and harder to hang on to her and worse, he had no idea the red gas was returning.

"Ingrid!" he cried as he clenched his fist around her hand, hanging unto her for dear life.

"Ingrid!" Her eyes fluttered and William saw something approaching. At first he thought it was a vine but then he realized what it was, it was the gold adder but it had camouflaged itself and now it looked more like a long green vine.

'Damn it, why does everything have to hold a grudge? '

Willam heard its sharp hiss as it moved its head slowly towards them, now all it would take is a single bite to end it all.

It moved its head like it was taunting them as it was just about ten feet above them which was nothing for a snake like this.

They were practically sitting ducks waiting to be swallowed whole, left to make their choice between the snake above or the snakes below.

Ingrid slowly opened her eyes and William saw them glow like jewels in the dim moonlight.

"Don't move," he said. "We are in big trouble."

She seemed dazed and it was clear she needed a little time to recover but couldn't afford it.

"It's right above us," William said. "If you move it'll bite you, so stay still."

But she could feel their grip breaking, only William was hanging on and she knew she had to do the same.

She slowly clenched her fingers around his own then the snakes hissed violently and was about to strike them when they heard a cry coming straight out of the belly of the jungle.

"Come to me!" It said and instantly the snake reassumed its original golden appearance and slithered away.

William thought he recognized the voice a bit but he was certain that was mistaken.

"Some one commands it?" Ingrid said in disbelief.

"They probably sent it to attack us?"

"But why are they calling it back?"

"I don't know, whoever the hell they are, they must be very dangerous. I mean to have such an ability, that was supposed to be a boss in this trial."

Ingrid looked around and said it. "It's coming back!"

William turned and saw it too. It was the red gas, it was making its way towards them.

They had a good distance of about forty feet from it so they quickly climbed onto the bridge and it began swinging. They threw frantically as they realized they would only be putting themselves in danger if they ran on the unstable bridge.

William saw a series of vines and it struck him. He turned to Ingrid and said, "we have to find a maneater."

"I was thinking the same thing."

They began pulling on the vines, they pulled and pulled but got no response.

'Are they all asleep? William wondered. Or are we just pulling on the wrong ones?'

The gas was 30 feet away, and they weren't sure which vine they had pulled and which they hadn't.

20 feet and they just kept on pulling and pulling.

10 feet and Ingrid pulled on a withered old vine she wasn't sure would even hold her weight and suddenly it pulled her up. She did her best to hang on.

5 feet, she was moving so fast, she was leaving William behind.
