My Psycho Stepson and me

Chapter 7: 7. A new job

The more time went by, the more I sobered up, as all this shit had been thrown at me the moment I woke up.

After deliberating for a long time, I decided to end this stalemate and closed my eyes.

I didn't know if that was the correct decision, but I had no other choice either, as I was too terrified to address the situation directly.

And it proved to be the correct move. About twenty minutes later, I heard Jude slowly going out of the bedroom, closing the door silently.

I waited to make sure that the coast was clear before opening my eyes.

Never was I so happy to see a person gone.

Now, that the psycho son had left, I had to face the hand groping me.

I reached inside my shirt and put my hand on his; then, seeing his deep breathing not waning, I moved his hand out of my shirt and climbed out of my husband's embrace.

I scurried to the corner of the bed, bringing as much space as possible between us, which was not much because Thomas had rolled to my side of the bed; this unwanted embrace had been unmistakably initiated by him.

Now every kind of sleep turned into a far-fetched dream, as I reached for the fork and gripped it tightly, giving me security.

I zoned out and thought about my escape plan, which was now officially set into stone.

My plan was to go to my new job, behave normally, come back at the end of the day, get my cat, let me and my cat being driven to a shopping center, and eventually, run away. It was unclear if Thomas would let me go outside beside my job, but my plan was easier to establish while being outside with many people than inside the enemy's domain.

Even when resting my eyes once more, I was on alert the whole time. When the room was bathed in light and Thomas awoke and moved, I was ready to act.

However, this time as well, I was left without a reason to do so. He just clothed himself, and the only moment when he was close to me, was him standing at the same spot his son did through the night and watching me.

I had my eyes closed, but I could feel it.

Then, finally, finally! he left the room, and I felt so stressed out after my first night here that I wanted to put my head into an oven.

Staring at the ceiling, I waited for my favorite maid, figuring that she would have the honor to 'wake' me.

Half an hour later, there was a polite knock on the door, which made me raise my eyebrows.

"Come in."

It was really the Maid with the prominent nose, but besides her still hateful eyes, her behavior had made a U-turn.

"Miss, please get ready for work." She emphasized the first word, probably trying to show me that she wouldn't recognize me as the boss' wife.

At least we agreed on the same thing; I didn't see myself as his wife as well. When she took a few steps inside the room, getting my and Thomas's old laundry from yesterday, I noticed that she limped pretty badly, and alarm bells rang out in my head once more. Was that what Thomas meant when he said he would 'talk' to her? Yesterday she was still alright, and I followed him to bed after dinner, so he shouldn't have injured the Maid personally. But was that giving me some solace?

Not one shitty bit.

I walked into the dressing room and chose a brown linen dress. It had no sleeves and a high collar, as well as two big hidden pockets.

Putting on a burgundy cardigan, I searched for my training clothes, which were luckily still where I put them yesterday, in an empty drawer. Grabbing a brown bag that I found in another drawer, I put my folding phone in the bag, as well as my little wallet, the golden apple, the pen and fork.

Seeing all my treasures gave me more security, and should an emergency take place, I could flee at any given time. Though, my cat would remain a hostage, and that, I wouldn't be able to tolerate.

Still, it was the best to have everything with me. Going into the bathroom, I washed my face and brushed my teeth, going downstairs.

There was no sign from either of the two psychos, and I relaxed considerably. I still can't believe that I called the molesting psycho 'buddy' yesterday, my instincts being crappy as always by kicking in this late.

The driver informed me that both men were already gone and asked me if I wanted to eat breakfast. I declined, and we were soon on the way to my new job.

The drive was short, and the school was big and prestigious—an old building with a modern interior. I was brought by someone who waited for me at the gate to the principal, who had a look of surprise on his face when he saw me. Why this was the case is yet another thing beyond me.

There was no job interview; he brought me directly to the sports fields outside, where I would torment the students when the weather was good. He also showed me the hall inside that would be used if the weather was bad, or in winter.

I hadn't asked, but I had the premonition that Jude could be in one of my classes. And for that reason, I didn't really concentrate on the principal; instead, I tried to go through how I would introduce myself to the students, feeling some kind of nervousness that sent me over the edge.
