My Perfect Apocalyptic Life

Chapter 64 - Is the System Such a Troublesome Thing?!

Inside the ‘conference room’ it was eerily quiet. Chairman Meng sat at the table, looking around with great satisfaction.
His employees were seated in two rows. On the left side were Shen Zhao Zhao, Zhang Lunping, and Zhou Yanni. Their child, a little girl named Qi Qi, who had been ill, was now resting on a makeshift bed.
On the right side were the zombie employees, Zhang Tao and Chi Wei
The two zombies struggled against their restraints, causing the three human employees opposite them to turn pale with discomfort.
“Alright, everyone, settle down.”

Holding an old-style tea cup, Meng Xu took a sip and then calmly raised his hand, signaling for the zombie employees on the right to stop making noise and disrupting the meeting.

He continued, “We’re about to start the first full-staff meeting of the Peace and Order Group. Is everyone here?”

Boss, our company has so few people. Can’t you see who is missing with just one glance? Why ask?

In her mind, Shen Zhaozhao silently questioned the redundancy but still stood up firmly, reporting, “Boss, this meeting should have three humans and four zombies.

Currently, three humans and two zombies are present. Two… uh, zombie employees are absent.”

“It must be Jiang Xiaoqiu and Li Xiang; I know. They’re on their way back to the company.”

Meng Xu nodded, indicating his understanding. He then took out two pieces of paper labeled ‘Li Xiang’ and ‘Jiang Xiaoqiu’ from his pocket and personally placed them on two empty chairs: “We’ll consider them present for now.”

“Bravo!”

Zhang Lunping immediately applauded, “Chairman Meng remembers every employee. He is an example for us all!”

Shen Zhaozhao quickly joined the applause. Zhou Yanni, witnessing this, felt the world was going insane.

At a time like this, why are we playing pretend?

“What’s wrong, Ms. Zhou Yanni? Do you have any differing views?” Meng Xu asked with a kind smile.

To Zhou Yanni, Meng Xu’s smile seemed devilish, causing her to shudder involuntarily. She clapped hurriedly and stuttered, “N-No…none.”

Meng Xu nodded in satisfaction, then turned his attention to the zombie employees, Zhang Tao and Chi Wei. Seeing them sit there motionless, Meng Xu felt his disapproval rising.

Not even clapping during the boss’s speech? Their careers were obviously going nowhere.

Returning to his seat, Meng Xu took another sip of tea and said, “Based on the adjustment of our corporate structure, I, the Chairman, have decided the following:”

“The first business unit will be launched, establishing the Sanitation and Cleaning Department. Li Xiang will be the team leader of the first group, promoted to K3 but without a salary increase. Chi Wei and Zhang Tao will join the first group as team members; they remain at K1.”

He continued, “As for the second business unit, we are establishing a Communications Services Department. Shen Zhaozhao, you will be the team leader of the first group, promoted to K3, just like Li Xiang. Zhang Lunping and Zhou Yanni will be interns in this department.”

“For Jiang Xiaoqiu, after careful consideration, I believe that having studied in the Beautiful Country at Fuha, she must be capable! Therefore, I am prepared to appoint her as the Executive Vice President of the company, responsible mainly for coordinating the First Business Unit.”

Meng Xu then added, “Our company must foster a harmonious environment. No discrimination against zombies—they were once humans. Human employees must not look down on zombies, and zombie employees must not attack humans. If I catch anyone violating this, they will be dealt with severely!”

After thoroughly considering these adjustments, Meng Xu felt satisfied. He promoted Jiang Xiaoqiu mainly because the vice president position had a base salary, and promoting anyone else would imply a salary hike—something Jiang Xiaoqiu wouldn’t need for the first three months.

Besides, how could a zombie conspire with another company and embezzle his wealth?

Sighing, Meng Xu contemplated the absurdity of zombie employees demanding salaries. While human employees needed wages for transactions, what would zombies do with money? Wouldn’t it make more sense to pay them in ghost money?

A sudden idea struck Meng Xu: there was a coffin shop nearby. After the meeting, he decided to visit it and acquire some ghost money to see if Zhang Tao and Chi Wei would accept it.

Hearing Meng Xu’s words, what could everyone do but applaud enthusiastically?

After a series of vigorous claps, Meng Xu raised his hand again, looking very pleased.

“Alright, our company values freedom of speech. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts? Feel free to speak up.”

“Boss, there’s something I’ve been wanting to ask for a long time.”

Shen Zhaozhao, with cautious respect, glanced at the two zombie colleagues and timidly raised her hand, asking, “What exactly is our company’s main business? We seem to be just sitting here without any tasks.”

Meng Xu fell into contemplative thought upon hearing this. She had a point.

“At this stage, our company mainly handles two sections: communications services and sanitation. In simple terms, this means working as outsourced customer service and conducting cleaning tasks. Occasionally, we might engage in food and sales services, but we don’t have those sectors yet.”

Meng Xu summarized, “In short, the zombie employees will go out and clean up—to dispose of all the bodies lying around. It’s quite disgusting to see severed limbs lying about. The Communications Services Department will handle incoming calls. Once I take over Wanxiang International upstairs, you’ll be working there, answering calls.”

After the meeting, Meng Xu decided to motivate Zhang Tao and Chi Wei to clean the area thoroughly by painting a bright future for them.

“But boss…”

At that moment, a thin, timid voice raised another question. Shen Zhaozhao spoke out again, “You still haven’t told us what we need to do right now.”

Meng Xu glanced at her. Thinking about Shen Zhaozhao, he recalled some details.

He focused, and golden text appeared before his eyes.

“Alright, after hand-copying the employment contracts, you’ll hand-copy labor dispatch contracts to send Zhou Yanni and Zhang Lunping to Jianglin Technology Co., Ltd., where they’ll do some form-filling,” Meng Xu instructed, “We’ll figure out the rest after we deal with Wanxiang International upstairs.”

“But boss, the power’s out.”

“Then hand-draw them! Use your imagination. One more dumb question, and I’ll dock your pay!”

Meng Xu casually concluded, “If there’s nothing else, everyone is dismissed. Today’s meeting is adjourned!”

【Meeting was swift and decisive, showcasing the Chairman’s demeanor! Seeing the system’s notification upon task completion, Meng Xu’s heart sank.
His worst fear had come true. The system wouldn’t really assign him a task to travel around the world, would it?

As he looked at the employees who were gradually starting to work, Meng Xu, with a heavy heart, grabbed Zhang Tao and Chi Wei and headed towards the fourth-floor door.

But soon, Meng Xu’s gaze became resolute.

“How can the system be so troublesome?! System, allocate points for me! All into Agility, give me Agility +3!”
