Chapter 18: Chapter 18 Logging back on
Once we all ate lunch, mom and dad headed upstairs to their bedroom. They put on their helmets after calling for my help.
Once my guardians and I logged back in. We were stunned to see how manly my dad had become in the game. Mom was surprisingly still the way she normally was.
My parents wanted nothing more than to get checked out with my guardians. They told me not to come with them. When I asked why the answer was.
"Because we said so." My father said.
"We need to talk to the girls in private." My mom said.
So I did the next best thing and clicked on my last egg to hatch. It said it would hatch in 24 hours of in-game time. So I had to play for a solid twenty-four hours or a whole day before the egg hatched.
It was not hard really. Even in the First Realm, on a stormy weekend. Getting nearly thirty hours of straight play time was nothing.
I went to the old field and found the log cutter. He was a decent old man. He only lives because his deceased wife told him to live. He wanted nothing more than to quietly pass away.
The more he wished it. The longer he stayed around. It feels almost like how I have been all these years. Nevertheless, I went over and helped him out.
"Damn, I never would have thought a Qi cultivator would want to help with manual labor." The old man said.
"My past life was that of a body cultivator. I know how strenuous it can be to train."
Hearing that I was a former body cultivator. The old man gave me a solid hug. I felt tears of sorrow and joy hitting my face. His face kept moving between happiness and depression.
Knowing that I had been through a lot. He went inside his cottage and grabbed an axe. It was nothing special. Just a Dragon Slayer Axe from the Third Realm.
The basic axe that one gets once they enter the Third Realm but to him. It was the one thing in life holding him to stay true to his wife.
"My wife wanted me to live to hand this to my child. Before I could even get a chance to train him, he got a deadly virus. When I took him to get medicine, the doctors refused to treat my young son. It was not in their best interest."
The old man explained with tears and snot rolling down his face. I truly felt his pain. He never told me this story the first time. Knowing it now, makes me feel even worse than what I did the first time training with him.
Once he handed me the axe, he politely asked me to leave. I went behind a large tree and could feel his soul leaving the world. I guess it was because of the Soul Art.
I went back and buried the body. Looked for anything else that may be of value. I at least wanted his valuables to be sold and the money given to help out those in need.
Seeing that nothing was really there. I decided to head out to the building behind his house. Once I opened it, I found the wyvern egg.
I knew that was trouble for the making. Leaving the egg here, he should have opened the door and found it. Now the question is, why did he not open the building or could he not see the egg?
Since I will never have the answers. I decided to hide the egg in my inventory. It will at least be safe. That will mean more to its mother than anything.
Heading out from the old man's house. I decided to head to the point where new cultivators mostly cultivate. Even though it would not do me any favors. Getting used to it is better than doing nothing.
There is a forest east to the city that Rex and the group currently are. The Qi in there is slightly better used to cultivate. The only downside is that for each person, the amount one could get is purely up to luck and how long you have been cultivating.
A brand new cultivator could get a little more than someone who had been cultivating for six months. The amount could also be less if one had bad karma in his/her previous life. If one had good karma, then someone who has been cultivating for a year could get the same amount of Qi of someone brand new.
Two brand new cultivators would not get the same amount of Qi. That was just the way the Realms kept balance in areas. If one could just cultivate at a good spot. They could easily cultivate to the top and not even need anything.
That actually happened once. That person ruled the Third Godly Realm. Knowing how bad it would become. He separated the realms into Godly, Heavenly, and Mortal. Once he had done that, the Realms then formed small Realms that had to be climbed.
Rex slowly made his way to the forest. Finding a decent spot, he began to cultivate. Once he had cultivated for an hour.
He began to feel more people coming around him. He began to search and find out what was going on.
"No one is here." Rex went back to the city.
"Weird."
"Yes. How can one feel us?"
"Must help him when we can."
"Must tell Our Queen."
"Our Queen is a must for him."
"Well I will watch him."
Rex slowly made his way back to town. Opening up his system he found.
"Congratulations you have found Wandering Spirits"
"Finding Water Spirit, Fire Spirit, Earth Spirit, Lightning Spirit, Dark Spirit, and Holy Spirit have made your arts stronger"
"System upgrade to level 1 50% completion.
Must complete the Main Quest and find the Hidden Quest"
"If Hidden Quest is completed, one cultivation art will be upgraded"
Seeing that his system could be upgraded, Rex had nothing but a smile on his face. Carrying the Dragon Slayer Axe on his back. Rex wanted to just go and complete the Main Quest but knew he needed time to be alone to do it.
"This will become a great experience since I can upgrade the system."
Rex had read a few manga that had system upgrades but never paid much attention to the end game. Now that he has one, he would go through and figure out what the end game was from those manga.
Entering the town, Rex's shine was even greater than when he first exited from meeting the goddesses. That made people wonder what was going on with Rex.
Rex's group just exited the inn that they stayed in. Seeing that Rex was glowing brighter. The girls wanted to throw themselves at Rex. Rex's mother wanted to celebrate his birthday with special candles. Rex's father wanted to enjoy some father and son time together.
Rex hugged his parents and had them follow him. Rex wanted them to cultivate first. Rex led them to the forest to start cultivating.
Rex tried to explain it but mostly he just felt how it should be done. Liz and Iris ended up explaining. Iris put her hands on Rex's father's back and Liz did Rex's mother.
Once they could cultivate, they began the painful process of slowly enduring their first cultivation. It was not much but they got more than enough to officially start their Main Quest.
Rex and the guardians followed the parents. They knew about building their Dantian. The pieces they wanted were Water and Holy for Rex's mother and Fire and Dark for Rex's father.
Those combinations were hard to find but could be done.
