My Life as a Farm Owner in a Thriller World

Chapter 4: Inheriting the Farm 4

The feed worker scooped up a ladle of feed from the bucket and poured it by the pond. The feed landed on the ground and began twisting and squirming continuously.

Wan Qian took a closer look and realized that, rather than a liquid, this feed resembled a mass of dark green, rotten, mud-like flesh paste. Her face changed slightly.

"Butler," Wan Qian called out.

The butler turned toward her, still wearing his usual smile. "Ms. Wan?"

Wan Qian spoke with admiration: "Our feed worker is quite a talent! Look at this feed! He's even made a non-Newtonian fluid!"

As soon as she finished speaking, intermittent "glub—glub—" sounds emerged from the pond. Soon, these low, muffled sounds blended together, turning into a chaotic roar, bubbling and frothing wildly.

Suddenly, a toad leapt out from the reeds.

Its entire body was covered in mud, making its original color unrecognizable. Bubbles of various sizes were swelling on its back, pulsing and constantly changing shape.

The toad hopped eagerly toward the feed and began to feast greedily.

More toads began emerging from the pond's reeds, joining in the feast.

Once they had eaten their fill, the toads lined up, one by one, and hopped over to an empty basket nearby.

They inflated their cheeks with force and letting out even deeper sounds. The mud-covered bubbles on their backs seemed to breathe, expanding and contracting.

Small white dots appeared on the bubbles, like blackheads being squeezed out, one by one, falling into the basket.

Once finished, the toads jumped out of the basket, leaving space for the others.

Soon, the basket was filled. The feed worker immediately brought the basket over to Wan Qian.

"Farm owner, look! After they ate the feed I formulated, the rice they produced is so crystal-clear and plump, each grain is perfect."

Wan Qian looked down and, indeed, saw that the rice was crystal-clear and plump. It even had traces of some sticky, unknown liquid on it. Under the afternoon sunlight, it shimmered with a brilliant glow.

Wan Qian couldn't help but pat the feed worker's shoulder. "Thank you for your hard work!"

Although she was initially repulsed by the sight of the toads producing rice, she quickly realized that this must be a new species her great-uncle had researched in collaboration with the university before his passing.

As everyone knows, environmental pollution has become increasingly severe in recent years, especially with some countries discharging nuclear wastewater into the oceans.

In this context, it made perfect sense that they would use genetic technology to cultivate crops more suitable for growing in polluted environments.

Wan Qian immediately felt reassured about this setup. She simply thought the feed worker really had it tough.

Facing these new species, which were so ugly they might even surpass human tolerance limits, yet still managing to care for them so diligently every day, it must have taken a lot of effort.

This feed worker was truly a talent!

"How should I address you?" Wan Qian said, looking at the feed worker with a serious expression.

The feed worker silently straightened his back, "You can call me Xiao Si."

Wan Qian continued, "Alright, Xiao Si. After my careful observation just now, I've realized that you are truly a rare talent."

The feed worker's expression full of excitement as he asked, "Farm owner, do you... mean...?"

Wan Qian said with a firm tone, "Right now, our farm is in its early stages, and we are extremely short on talents like you. I'd like to promote you to be the head of the production department. You'll be responsible for teaching the employees the techniques of raising and producing, guiding them in their work. Would you be willing to take on this role?"

"Willing! I'm more than willing!" The feed worker was so touched by the farm owner's recognition that tears welled up in his eyes. The new farm owner was truly a good leader who knew how to appreciate talent and use people wisely!

"I will work hard and make sure we create wealth for our farm! I won't let the farm suffer any losses!" he promised with determination.

Wan Qian nodded with satisfaction. She found this feed worker very promising.

"Starting tomorrow, you will be the head of the production department," she said.

After touring the "Rice Production Base," Wan Qian, accompanied by the feed worker and the butler, visited the other two breeding bases on the farm. These were the "Pumpkin Production Base" and the "Milk Production Base." As expected, they both involved new species.

While touring, Wan Qian also paid close attention to the farm's environment. The vast farm was surrounded by a very dirty outer wall, but the area around the three production bases was surprisingly clean.

Considering that there was only one cleaner on the farm, Wan Qian quickly understood. The cleaner had focused all their limited energy on important agricultural production, not wasting it on superficial appearance projects. That, too, was a form of talent.

So, Wan Qian promoted the cleaner, Xiao Qing, to be the head of the cleaning department.

After promoting the two department heads, Wan Qian returned to her office but felt a bit troubled. After all, having only department heads wasn't enough. To achieve large-scale production, more employees were needed. She couldn't let the two department heads be left in charge with no workers under them.

The butler noticed Wan Qian's concern. His ever-present smile deepened slightly.

"If you need, a batch of new interns will be arriving shortly. I believe we can find some suitable talents among them," his voice, calm and steady, perfectly resolved Wan Qian's urgent problem.

"Yes! I definitely need them!" Wan Qian replied eagerly.

What Wan Qian didn't know was that just three minutes after her words, a dirty, worn-out bus, carrying passengers, was heading towards the farm.

"zzzt... " Amid the harsh sound of electricity, a mechanical female voice began its announcement. "Dear passengers, welcome aboard Bus No. 444. This bus will go directly to Dark Farm and will not make any stops along the way."

"Ms. Wan, the farm owner of Dark Farm, is kind-hearted and friendly, with a deep bond with the 444 bus. Therefore, there is no fare for this trip."

"Wish all the interns a pleasant work experience."
