Chapter 1:
Chapter 1: Was the Engagement Broken Off at the Engagement Party? Kill Them:
“Qin Yan, to be honest, I don’t like you at all. If your Qin family hadn’t threatened my Liu family, I would have broken off our engagement long ago.”
In the grand auditorium of the Qin family manor, an eighteen or nineteen-year-old woman stood confidently. She was dressed in an exquisite gown, her appearance stunning, her skin delicate as porcelain, and her figure slender and graceful. Holding her hand was a young man about the same age, with a handsome face, dressed in ordinary clothes, his dark eyes filled with determination.
“Qin Yan, the one I love is Xiao Fan. Today, I am here to announce that our engagement is void,” the woman declared.
Opposite them stood another young man. He had a tall, strong build, a commanding presence, and striking features. This was Qin Yan. His face remained expressionless, though a faint trace of hollowness lingered in his eyes. A strange surge of memories began to awaken in his mind.
The surrounding guests erupted into murmurs.
“Unbelievable! The young master of the Qin family had his engagement broken off?”
“Is Liu Xinyao out of her mind? Qin Yan is unmatched in family background, looks, and talent, yet she’s choosing to end things?”
“I can’t believe this. Qin Yan has treated Liu Xinyao so well, catering to her every whim, and this is how she repays him?”
“Liu Xinyao is blatantly humiliating the Qin family. There’s no way the Qin family will let this slide.”
Qin Yan’s brows furrowed slightly, and a flicker of gloom flashed in his eyes. As he pieced together the memories, he realized something shocking—he was living inside a novel.
In this world, Xiao Fan was the protagonist, Liu Xinyao was the first heroine, and he was nothing more than the villain.
A year ago, Liu Xinyao met Xiao Fan in his city while handling some business. She had been drugged by her enemies, and it was Xiao Fan who had saved her. That night, they ended up in bed together. Before leaving, Liu Xinyao revealed her true identity and told Xiao Fan their social statuses were worlds apart, advising him to forget her. But Xiao Fan, being the “son of destiny,” vowed to win her heart and marry her one day.
Xiao Fan eventually arrived in the capital, where he encountered Liu Xinyao at the top university of the Daxia Empire. He began pursuing her, and she, moved by her feelings for the young man who had shared such an intimate moment with her, reciprocated his love.
The plot was cliché and melodramatic, riddled with absurdities. To highlight the protagonists’ love and set up the narrative, the novel cast Qin Yan as the inevitable obstacle.
As Liu Xinyao’s fiancé, Qin Yan had cared deeply for her, showering her with resources and elevating her family’s status.
Yet, she only had eyes for Xiao Fan, secretly diverting Qin family resources to support him.
Despite her feelings for Xiao Fan, she never directly ended her engagement with Qin Yan. Instead, she let the engagement proceed until today’s party, where Xiao Fan burst in and publicly claimed her.
This public spectacle disgraced the Qin family, turning them into a laughingstock throughout the capital.
In the novel, Qin Yan harbored resentment and tried to kill Xiao Fan, but the male and female leads worked together to kill him instead.
Qin Yan’s death made his family the primary villains, and they continually sought revenge on Xiao Fan and Liu Xinyao. However, under the protagonist’s halo, Xiao Fan always escaped, discovering hidden opportunities to grow stronger. In the end, Xiao Fan annihilated the Qin family completely.
As these memories unfolded, Qin Yan felt a mix of anger and mockery.
His grandfather, Qin Qi, was one of the three great martial gods of Daxia. His father and uncle were both martial saints. The Qin family commanded over thirty grandmasters, hundreds of masters, and countless sixth- and seventh-grade warriors. Even the Emperor of the Great Xia Kingdom treated them with respect.
Yet, despite their overwhelming power, the Qin family had been reduced to mere stepping stones for Xiao Fan’s rise. The novel depicted them as foolish, constantly serving as tools for Xiao Fan’s growth. It was absurd.
Now, Qin Yan had the chance to rewrite this narrative. He wouldn’t play the fool the book had made him out to be. He wanted to see what chaos Xiao Fan could truly create in this world.
As he was about to speak, a booming voice echoed in his mind.
[The Fated Villain System has been bound.]
Qin Yan’s pupils narrowed slightly, though his face remained calm. He communicated silently, “Fated Villain System? What’s your purpose?”
[This system exists to plunder the fate of the Son of Destiny and eliminate him.]
A spark of interest ignited in Qin Yan’s eyes. “So, you need me to kill Xiao Fan. What do I get in return?”
[By plundering the fate of the Son of Destiny or killing him, the host can receive corresponding rewards, including enhancements to physical fitness, skills, and magic weapons.]
“I see,” Qin Yan mused. “You want me to act against the Son of Destiny in exchange for these benefits.”
[Correct.]
Qin Yan smirked slightly. “Then let’s see just how bright this so-called protagonist’s halo shines.”
Qin Yan’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Then it will be a pleasure to cooperate.”
The system responded: [Happy cooperation.]
As the exchange with the system ended, a woman in her thirties walked into the room. She had a plump figure, was dressed in a vibrant red gown, and exuded a commanding presence. This was Qin Yan’s mother, Yun Qing. Her face was dark with anger, her expression so stormy it was almost frightening. Her piercing gaze landed on the pair holding hands in front of her, and she erupted furiously.
“Liu Xinyao, you little b**ch! How dare you humiliate my Qin family at the engagement party? Do you think we’re so easily bullied?”
Despite the harsh words, Liu Xinyao remained defiant, her tone sharp as she retorted, “Aunt Yun, I’ve told you before, I don’t like Qin Yan. I will never be with someone I don’t love.”
Yun Qing’s body trembled with fury. “If you didn’t like Yan’er, you could have spoken up and proposed breaking off the engagement! Instead, you choose to make a spectacle of us today, humiliating the Qin family in front of all these guests.”
Liu Xinyao scoffed, crossing her arms. “Aunt Yun, as if I had a choice. Your Qin family is so powerful. How could I have dared to bring it up before?”
Yun Qing opened her mouth to argue further, but Qin Yan stepped forward, gently placing a hand on her shoulder. His voice was calm yet chilling. “Mom, let me handle this. I’ll make sure they regret ever stepping into this world.”
Yun Qing turned to her son, concern flickering in her eyes.
She knew how deeply Qin Yan had cared for Liu Xinyao before, going so far as to lower himself just to please her. Could he truly move past that? But when she saw the cold, murderous glint in his eyes, her worries subsided. She nodded solemnly.
“Alright, son. I’ll leave this matter to you. Remember, the Qin family cannot tolerate such insults.”
Qin Yan gave a small nod. “I understand, Mom.”
Yun Qing shot one last glare at Liu Xinyao and Xiao Fan before storming out, her anger still palpable.
Turning to the remaining guests, Qin Yan spoke in a composed and polite tone. “Ladies and gentlemen, I deeply apologize for what happened today. I didn’t expect such an incident to occur, and I regret that it disrupted our gathering.”
He continued with a faint smile, “What follows is a private matter between the Qin family and the Liu family. I must kindly ask everyone to leave in an orderly manner. I sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation.”
The guests, understanding the tension in the air, quickly complied.
It was clear that the scene unfolding now was not meant for public eyes. One by one, they exited the hall, leaving only members of the Liu family behind. However, one man remained seated at a table, calmly observing without moving.
Once the hall had cleared, Qin Yan’s demeanor changed. His gaze turned cold and sharp, radiating a terrifying killing intent. His eyes locked onto Xiao Fan and Liu Xinyao, who both stiffened under his menacing aura.
This was the first time Liu Xinyao had seen such a chilling side of Qin Yan, and it unsettled her.
But her unease quickly turned into irritation.
She couldn’t accept being treated like this by someone who had once catered to her every whim. She raised her voice, demanding, “Qin Yan, what’s with that stern face? Who are you trying to scare?”
Xiao Fan stepped in front of her protectively, shielding her with his body. “Qin Yan, if you have a problem, take it out on me. Leave Xinyao out of this.”
Watching the pair’s show of affection only deepened the coldness in Qin Yan’s heart. His voice was devoid of emotion as he commanded, “Where are the Qin family guards?”
The sound of synchronized footsteps echoed through the hall, accompanied by the metallic clatter of weapons. A group of armed guards marched in, led by Qin Wu, an eighth-level warrior who carried an air of authority. His hand rested on the hilt of his blade as he approached Qin Yan and bowed slightly.
“Young Master, what are your orders?”
Qin Yan didn’t look away from Xiao Fan and Liu Xinyao, his expression icy and unwavering. His next words were delivered with chilling finality.
“Kill them.”
