Mr. Bigshot Is Obsessed with His Hidden-Marriage Wife

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: A Little Punishment

Ye Yan hung up the unrelenting phone and pushed open the door to the conference room.

She was wearing a lotus root color tweed coat today and had not yet managed to put on her white lab coat, the warm color with its hint of purple and pink complementing her skin, pale as snow, and endowing her with a delicate beauty.

Her beauty was not the vibrant kind, but rather the ethereal type that seemed untouched by the worldly sphere.

Fu Xingzhou looked up from his coffee as the door opened.

Those eyes, clear and cold, held a defiance that seemed to come from someone perched high above the clouds, looking down upon the common fray with a disdain that suggested nothing in the world could catch his interest.

From the moment Ye Yan stood still, his gaze never left her.

It was as if a wild beast had licked its paws, greedily and persistently staring down its prey.

His unrestrained watching made the dean beside him break out in a cold sweat. Yet when he looked at Ye Yan, she seemed unaffected, her expression serene as ever.

True to her reputation as the ice queen of their hospital, she was thoroughly unfazed having seen it all before.

The dean looked again towards the figure seated at the head of the room.

That morning, Nurse Xiao, while administering an injection to V8 bed's Old Sir Fu, had inadvertently struck twice, enraging the old gentleman. Mr. Fu had been relentless, and in the end, had summoned this figure over.

Fu Xingzhou, a Hong Konger from Xiangjiang, was nonetheless a legendary figure in Ao City.

Before Ye Yan's arrival, the dean had been so pressed by Fu Xingzhou's overwhelming presence that even his breathing was measured and careful, his explanations placating yet ineffectual.

And the "main culprit," Nurse Xiao, was hiding nervously behind the dean, biting her lip, holding back her inner fear.

Just minutes ago, Mr. Fu's seemingly casual inquiries had nearly scared the dean half to death.

"Mr. Fu, hello," Ye Yan approached Fu Xingzhou, her expression unchanged, "As Old Sir Fu's primary physician, I feel it necessary to provide you with a reasonable explanation."

The man's narrow eyes, with a hint of languor at the corners, were inscrutable.

He assumed a listener's pose, his legs casually crossed, "Go ahead."

It was a tone of condescension.

"Just now, I reviewed the surveillance footage from the ward, and it showed that when Nurse Xiao was injecting Old Sir Fu, he turned unexpectedly to grab the phone, causing the needle to go astray."

Fu Xingzhou idly played with the steel watch on his left wrist, waiting for her to continue.

"Nurse Xiao serves in the VIP section because of her undeniable professional integrity. Of course, we are very sorry that this incident occurred." Ye Yan bowed sincerely, and as she bent, one could catch a glimpse of the pale skin at her collar, adding a touch of vibrancy to her poise.

A flicker passed through Fu Xingzhou's gaze.

"Following this, the hospital will enhance the professional skills training of our medical staff, striving to prevent such errors in the future. We humbly ask Mr. Fu, as a patient's family member, to continue supervising and supporting our work."

Her words, though formal, were neither servile nor arrogant. They were reasonable, avoiding laying all the blame at one party's feet yet also not assuming all of it, all while protecting Nurse Xiao as much as possible, leaving no room for criticism.

Fu Xingzhou crossed his arms in front of him, his fingers lightly tapping together, "Even if it was Old Sir Fu's fault, your hospital is still responsible."

"You are correct, Mr. Fu. I will take Nurse Xiao to apologize personally to Old Sir Fu."

"Just an apology?" Fu Xingzhou's eyes suddenly darkened, his burning gaze mercilessly fixed on Ye Yan, laden with implicit meaning.

The man articulated each word deliberately, his voice noble yet indolent, "Dr. Ye, have you not considered some other form of punishment?"

The word "punishment" echoed with a suggestive undertone.

The atmosphere in the conference room suddenly seemed to solidify, every breath amplified to the extreme.

Xiao Xiao bowed her head, clasping her hands tightly. Even though Dr. Ye had cleared her of the blame, in the face of the true power-holder, even reason turned into unreason.

Those who can stay in the VIP ward of Ao City's Number One Hospital are all either rich or distinguished, and likewise, they have big tempers and many demands. A slight misstep could mean losing one's job at the least.

When she first started, the head nurse had earnestly warned her to be careful and attentive, not to make any mistakes.

For ordinary people, an extra needle prick might go unnoticed, or at most earn a few words of reprimand, but not for the people here.

This incident had begun because of her, and she couldn't allow Dr. Ye to be implicated and punished.

Worst comes to worst, she could just go back to being a regular nurse below, and let go of this high salary. Xiao Xiao was just about to step forward when she saw Ye Yan shake his head at her, and then speak emotionlessly, "I accept whatever punishment Mr. Fu desires."

The director opened his mouth anxiously.

If Fu Xingzhou really pressured the hospital with his personal power, wanting to punish Dr. Ye using this incident, he was powerless to stop it.

The dignitary from Hong Kong before them was the most difficult to serve, and the slightest carelessness could result in a completely ruined family.

After a moment, Fu Xingzhou seemed to have had his fill of watching everyone's awkwardness, chuckled to himself, and then resumed his condescending demeanor, "Just kidding, did Dr. Ye take it seriously?"

He was apologizing, yet it did not seem genuine, more like he was toying with everyone before turning away nonchalantly.

"I can overlook this incident, but there won't be a next time," the man stated calmly, yet terrifyingly.

"Certainly not, certainly not, please rest assured, Mr. Fu," the director said, visibly relieved, as he hastily made the promise, "The health of our patients is always our top priority."

Fu Xingzhou stood up and walked past Ye Yan, then suddenly paused, his tone playful, "Does Dr. Ye like cats?"

"Not really." Ye Yan's reply was very straightforward.

He seemed somewhat disappointed, "I wanted Dr. Ye to see my cat. It's very well-behaved, but its claws are incredibly sharp."

"Sorry, I have no interest in your cat," she said, maintaining her distance.

"That's truly a shame." The man curved his lips into a slight smile, his body turning away in a lazy gesture, as his bodyguard hurriedly draped a coat over him.

He had traveled from Hong Kong to Ao City today, from Tsim Sha Tsui to Dangzi bus terminal, covered in the dust of his journey.

The director accompanied him out with a forced smile, all the while wondering to himself, their conversation was mysterious—was it encoded?

After seeing off this great deity, the director breathed a huge sigh of relief.

Who could have imagined that such a big scene was just because a nurse gave one extra injection?

There's no helping it; this is the VIP ward, where all of Ao City's rich and powerful come for treatment.

Any of the patients here are not to be offended.

"Xiao, be careful in the future," the director said earnestly as he patted Xiao Xiao's arm, while he gave Ye Yan a grateful look.

Ye Yan was the legend of the VIP ward, the youngest medical doctorate holder, the most outstanding lead surgeon.

Other medical staff treated the patients here as warmly as a spring breeze, yet only she was as cold as winter.

Yet, these people seemed to respond best to her approach.

Had she not been there today, the situation would have been tough to contain.

"Dr. Ye, thank you," said Xiao Xiao gratefully, unable to hide her curiosity, "Dr. Ye, are you familiar with Mr. Fu?"

She always felt there was something odd about the atmosphere between the two.

Ye Yan maintained an emotionless expression as she set boundaries, "Not familiar."
