Chapter 44: Chapter 38

Alex snarled deep in his throat—low, guttural—and charged again, claws digging into the ruined streets as he picked up speed.

Across from him, Godzilla began to charge his atomic breath once more, dorsal spines lighting up like a rising sun.

Alex leapt, wings flaring wide, and landed squarely on Godzilla's shoulders, knocking the King's aim wild and disrupting the charge.

Before Godzilla could react, Alex's twin tails snapped forward, curving like spears.

> SHUNK! SHUNK!

Both tails stabbed into Godzilla's legs, sinking deep into muscle and drawing a roar of pain.

Godzilla grabbed Alex by the torso, snarling, and hurled him off with brute force.

Alex hit the ground hard, rolling through broken stone and twisted steel, his body beginning to glow faint red—energy building from the absorbed kinetic impact.

He raised his head—just in time for Godzilla to lunge forward, jaws clamping down on Alex's neck.

> GRRRAAAUUUGGHHH!!

Godzilla's teeth bit hard, trying to crush his windpipe, pushing forward to throw him off balance.

Alex's eyes snapped open—now glowing an intense crimson red.

> A brilliant flash erupted.

Red lightning arced from his body in a violent discharge of bioelectricity, timed perfectly with the release of the kinetic energy he'd stored moments ago.

> KRAKOOOOOM!!

A powerful shockwave exploded outward.

Godzilla was blasted back, his body trailing smoke as he crashed through the ruins, the ground quaking beneath his landing.

Alex slowly rose, his own body smoking and still wreathed in crackling red arcs.

He panted.

> That move had taken a toll.

But it had worked.

He'd used his internal battery—a deadly fusion of absorbed force and bioelectric energy—like a living grenade.

He hacked roughly, his neck scorched, then muttered low under his breath.

> "Damn... he really got me good.

Godzilla rose once more—unfazed.

Smoke curled from his battered body, but there was no hesitation in his movements. If anything, he looked more formidable than before.

Fighting Ghidorah.

And being supercharged by Serizawa's nuke.

Taking blast after blast from a monster like Alex—

> He was adapting.

And fast.

Godzilla's dorsal plates glowed blue, charging up his atomic breath again.

Alex's eyes narrowed.

> No time to block this one.

He took to the sky, wings pumping with thunderous force. Godzilla's beam fired up just seconds later, trailing behind him like a glowing death ray as Alex circled and climbed above.

With a sharp bank and an elegant twist midair, Alex avoided the tail end of the beam, then dove straight down.

> BOOOOM!

He rammed into Godzilla's chest, sending both titans tumbling across the battlefield in a chaotic roll of limbs, tails, and thunderous impacts.

Mid-roll, Alex got the upper hand. With a surge of strength, he whipped his tails, throwing Godzilla off and sending him crashing into the rubble.

Alex landed hard, immediately shifting stance as his spines pulsed red, mouth glowing.

> Crimson Resonance—charging.

Godzilla growled, shaking off the dust, his own spines lighting up again in answer.

> ZWWOOMM!!

Both titans fired.

The sky shattered.

The two beams collided midair with a violent flash—turning purple at the center as they scattered plasma and lightning in all directions. For a split second, it was an even match.

But then—

Alex's beam began to push forward.

Godzilla's breath faltered. His beam was overwhelmed.

> BOOOM!!

The Crimson Resonance hit him square in the face, sending him roaring in pain as he collapsed, smoke and sparks trailing off his battered form.

Alex snapped his jaws in frustration.

> If only I could sustain the beam longer... this would already be over.

But there was no time to waste.

He launched forward again, landing atop Godzilla's chest with a heavy thud. Before the King could react, Alex sank his fangs into Godzilla's neck.

> And injected his venom.

A low growl vibrated through the battlefield.

This wasn't just a fight now—it was a test of resilience, biology, and will.

Alex's fangs were still buried in Godzilla's thick neck, venom pumping into the King's bloodstream, when—

> WHAM!!

Godzilla's tail whipped around like a wrecking ball, catching Alex square in the ribs on his right side.

> CRACK.

Even with his reinforced frame, Alex felt that one.

> He was launched, tumbling across shattered earth and crashing into the remains of a skyscraper. Concrete rained down as he growled and rose, favoring his side.

Godzilla slowly pulled himself to his feet, smoke rising from his scales, one eye squinting from the Crimson Resonance blast. He snarled, ready for more.

Alex stayed crouched, exhaling slowly.

> "...This is dragging on longer than I'd like."

He narrowed his eyes. The air shimmered faintly around him. His spines hummed. Red lightning danced along his wings.

> It was time.

Time for that move.

The one he hadn't dared to use until now.

> The one he'd been saving.

In the Argo

Inside the command room, the atmosphere was tense.

> Too quiet.

"Alright..." Mark broke the silence. "What's the plan for helping Godzilla?"

No one answered.

Around him, everyone avoided his gaze.

Finally, Stanton sighed, his voice low.

"We're not helping this time, Mark. Godzilla is on his own."

Mark blinked, stunned.

"Are you serious? After everything he's done—you're just giving up on him?"

Colonel Diane Foster turned toward him, calm but firm.

"You've got it wrong. Godzilla's been fighting for balance, not for us. We just happen to benefit from that balance."

Mark's voice sharpened.

"So you want him replaced? Is that it?"

He looked around the room, incredulous.

"I get it—you're scared of Black Wyvern. I am too. But that thing's a lone wolf. We don't know what it'll do with power. Godzilla, at least... he grew up with the others. He knows restraint."

"But we don't have the justification to intervene," Sam added gently. "We can't pick favorites in a war of titans. This isn't our fight."

Mark clenched his fists.

"So we just stand by and hope this new Alpha doesn't turn on us?"

Dr. Chen finally spoke, her voice steady.

"We're not taking sides, Mark. We're letting nature resolve its own hierarchy—like Serizawa believed."

Mark looked around one last time. No one spoke.

He let out a breath, eyes hard.

"...I hope you all know what you're doing."

And with that, he turned away—alone with his doubts.

Back to the fight

Godzilla and Alex circled each other, heavy footfalls cracking pavement and shattering what was left of the ruined city beneath them. Dust rose with every step. The sky flickered with lightning due to the heat from their atomic breaths causing rapid convection.

Alex narrowed his glowing red eyes, tracking every twitch of Godzilla's massive tail, every rise and fall of his chest.

> He then witnessed the puncture wound he'd just inflicted...

Hissing shut.

Radiation vapor streamed from the wound like steam from a broken pipe. The skin sizzled and sealed.

> "Tch... as expected from the King."

Alex's claws flexed.

> He always bounces back.

To defeat this titan, brute force wouldn't be enough.

> I have to outsmart him. Wear him down.

Strip away his advantages—then strike with everything I've got.

His venom wasn't doing much. He'd known it wouldn't kill Godzilla, but he'd hoped for more. The glowing steam and the accelerated healing told him everything: Godzilla's body was purging the toxin using radiation. Just like it had survived the nuke, how troublesome.
