Miss Witch Doesn’t Want to Become a Songstress

Chapter 14 - Forneus's Benevolent Gift

“Young man, you’re out of revival coins~”

In the battle arena, Belphegor leaned on a golden hammer, towering over her opponent, who lay defeated at her feet.

The youth in a flat cap clutched his sore arm, flexed his limbs a little, and slowly stood up.

“I concede.” As his words fell, the hyper-realistic battlefield dissolved. The weapons in their hands lost their brilliance, the energy-formed blades and hammer heads dissipating into nothingness, leaving only the handles.

“Lil-Kai was close, but he made a critical mistake during the blade clash with Bel-sis. He started steady, but as the exchanges grew, flaws started to show.”

“Well, he’s probably not skilled enough yet. He’s only been training with broadswords for six months, and reaching this level already makes him a prodigy.”

“Ugh, I wanted to see Rabi get defeated! Imagine Rabi crying ‘boo-hoo’ after losing!”

“You pervert, stay away from me.”

Amid the various conversations, Belphegor packed up her gear and walked over to Hestia.

“Today’s task is done. If anyone still wants to play, find someone else to duel. I’m taking a break~”

“Rabi’s as lazy as ever, not even willing to make extra money.”

“That’s why she’s called ‘Sloth.’”

The guests in the hall had grown used to this. After watching the spectacle, they each settled down to their own games. Some even gathered in groups to play tabletop RPGs.

A vivid simulation of a sandbox appeared on the table, complete with castles and creatures. Player-designed characters descended into the scene, embarking on various intriguing battles and adventures.

“Well? Isn’t this fun?” Belphegor pulled Hestia to a secluded corner away from the crowd and sat down.

“Senior Belphegor is amazing.”

Hestia was genuinely impressed. This bunny-eared girl wasn’t just lively and adept at handling all sorts of customers; she also maintained exceptional skill in countless games, sports, and battles—something beyond the reach of ordinary people.

In today’s world, becoming a top gamer was harder than excelling in some high-end professions. Specialized industries sometimes had less competition, but gaming was different. Its universal accessibility meant a massive player base, leading to the emergence of countless talents and prodigies. Standing out among millions was no easy feat.

“Ahaha, even though it’s just praise, hearing it from ‘Dantalion’ makes it particularly satisfying.” The black rabbit ears atop Belphegor’s head twitched slightly, a clear sign of her good mood.

Watching the expressive ears, Hestia couldn’t suppress her curiosity any longer.

“Senior Belphegor, are those rabbit ears real?”

“They’re real.” Belphegor tilted her head.

“But I see the marks of a headband along the edges, so I thought they were fake.”

“Oh, that’s because I wear a headband to match the store’s theme.” She wiggled her ears again.

“There aren’t many beastfolk in the ‘Four-Leaf Crystal Constellation,’ so it’s not surprising to be mistaken for a human in disguise.”

The two chatted for a bit before Belphegor asked, “How do you feel about today? You’ve pretty much explored the shop and gotten a general understanding, right?”

“Yes, I’ve learned a lot and seen so many new things.” Hestia felt like she had experienced more today than she usually did in an entire year.

“You’ll get used to it in time.”

Belphegor offered a few words of reassurance. She typically wasn’t this attentive, but Hestia’s demeanor was genuinely endearing. After all, obedient, well-mannered, and adorable girls like Hestia were a rare treasure.

Modern girls, Belphegor thought, either recklessly court danger in search of thrills or get caught up in consumerism and petty rivalries. Though she herself was a girl, she often found it exhausting to socialize with peers. Playing games with guys was far more relaxing.

After discussing the store’s operations, Hestia had a general understanding of her colleagues’ responsibilities. However, she remained uncertain about her own role.

“It seems everyone has their own approach and style. But as for me, I’m not sure what I should do.”

“Ah, you’re quite sharp, Dantalion! Realizing this so early on is impressive.”

“As for your style, I’ve already thought it through.” Belphegor patted her chest confidently.

“It’s too much to expect someone your age to discuss life philosophy with customers. You don’t need to adopt the approach of someone like Sister Amdusias. Just be yourself. Work in a way that feels comfortable for you.”

“At the start, there’s always a period of adjustment and exploration.”

“Tomorrow, I’ll introduce you to the rest of the team. For the first week, just focus on familiarizing yourself with everything.”

“Thank you, Sister Belphegor.” Though Belphegor didn’t look much older than her, Hestia was genuinely grateful.

For someone as introverted and timid as Hestia, a warm, outgoing, and kind person like Belphegor felt as radiant as the sun on a winter’s day.

“Mm-hmm, I’ve got your back, Dantalion~”

Time flew by, and soon it was time to clock out.

As dusk settled, the simulated sky on the ceiling displayed a gradient of sunset hues. Its golden glow softly illuminated the glassy surfaces of the floor, casting a breathtaking beauty over the entire space.

“It’s already past five.”

Belphegor and Hestia sat at the bar counter. Behind it was another maid, adorned with silken floral trims of silver along her collar and cuffs—a touch of personal flair.

“Sister Forneus, is there anything to eat?” The bunny-eared maid perched on a high barstool, legs swinging idly, resting her chin on her hands as she gazed at the smiling maid behind the counter.

“Nope, Belphegor, you’re a rabbit and can’t eat meat. This portion is for Dantalion.”

The maid inside the bar was grilling steak, the sizzling sound of oil mingling with the aroma of rosemary, making it incredibly appetizing.

Forneus: Ranked 30th among Solomon’s 72 Demons, Forneus commands 29 legions. He is depicted as a silvery shark and is skilled in rhetoric, making people proficient in debate and turning foes into friends.

“Who says rabbits can’t eat meat? I want to try food made by Forneus herself!” Belphegor lowered her arms, resting her head on them as she watched the maid cooking quietly.

“I’ve worked hard today, you know. If you want to eat, you can just go upstairs and order from the staff cafeteria.” The silver-trimmed maid flipped the steak with a spatula.

“Today is Dantalion’s first day here. It’s a special occasion, so I made this myself. As for you, haven’t you eaten my food before? Why act so greedy now?”

“I’m starving! I’ve been showing Dantalion around all day—it’s exhausting.”

“Alright, stop pretending to be pitiful. I know your stamina well. Even if you toured for another whole day, you wouldn’t feel tired.” Unfortunately, the maid didn’t fall for Belphegor’s act.

“All done. A sprinkle of spices, paired with soft, subtly sweet cold-smoked rice cakes, and voilà!” With that, she plated the dish and placed it on the bar, handing it to Hestia, who had been waiting quietly.

T4 Rare Violet Herb Steak Set

Made from ingredients with minor magical effects: violet herbs, magma beef, and cold-smoked rice. It quickly restores stamina, replenishes mana, and, with long-term consumption, enhances physical attributes.

“Thank you, Sister Forneus.”

Hestia hesitated as she accepted the meal, overwhelmed by the gesture. In high-end restaurants, a T4-grade set meal with magical effects could cost between 600 and 2,000 units. And this one, crafted from premium ingredients with meticulous care, would likely be even more expensive.

Just this one meal alone was worth nearly half a month’s salary for her.

Seeing Hestia eating cautiously, even nervously, Belphegor poured her a glass of juice.

“Don’t be so tense. Forneus already deducted the ingredient cost from her account, so there’s no need to worry about the company penalizing her. As for the deduction, she can easily earn it back by making one or two extra meals for customers in a day. It’s no big deal.”

“Belphegor, you’re making it sound far too easy,” the maid inside the bar remarked with a laugh.

“But little Dantalion, don’t stress. It’s just a matter of a bit more effort. Relax and enjoy your meal.”

The maids at Crystal Dream were accustomed to extravagant spending and earning. However, for Hestia, who had always led a frugal life, such gestures were overwhelming.

“Thank you, Sister Forneus.”

Since her father was gone, Hestia had struggled to live on her own, never receiving so much care and kindness as she did today. She had expected her first job to involve hardship, pitfalls, and a long, arduous journey to find her footing.

But fate works in mysterious ways. After over a decade of an ordinary and challenging life, it had finally given her a shining glimmer of hope.
