Chapter 43: Chapter 43 The fight on the other side

The enormous fist came too abruptly towards his face, to allow Souta to evade it, resulting in him getting sent flying, directly into the nearest wall.

"That hurt like hell! Damnit," Souta couldn't help but curse out, while still lying in the destroyed wall.

Had it not been for his regeneration quirk, then the fight could've already been over for Souta entirely, with it though, it took mere seconds to heal his most likely broken bones and help him with his concussion.

After having recovered somewhat, Souta looked up again and was immediately after met with the sight of an even bigger Nomu, than the one that appeared at the USJ, rushing straight at him.

Souta didn't have the time to think about the best course and trusted his instincts instead. He utilized his CryoPyre at the highest degree in a long while.

The familiar azure flames engulfed him entirely, forming his most effective technique, Nova Body, while his ice burst forth as a wave, resembling what Shoto had done at the Sports Festival.

Thanks to his Nova Body, Souta immediately brought himself about twenty meter above ground, while the Nomu seemed to be entrapped in the ice for now. Using the moment of calm, to finally analyze the situation.

Everything around him lay in ruin. Cars smashed to bits, walls broken into a million pieces and everything singed on top of it. Even bodies lay around the place. Souta wasn't sure, if they were dead or merely unconscious. To remain calm, he desperately hoped that was the case.

While scanning over the place, and especially the bodies, a few flying Nomus headed towards him, all looking even uglier than the last one.

"Stay AWAY!" Souta roared as he beams of his azure flames directly towards these ugly abominations, completely incinerating them in the process. "Guess they weren't even close to the quality of the one from USJ."

As he was thinking this, and taking a second to recover from the by now relatively familiar pain from his flames, since the resistance couldn't completely resist these high temperatures yet, his foot was suddenly grabbed.

Souta immediately looked down in shock, his eyes growing as wide as saucers.

The next moment he was already yanked back down by the same giant black hand that had hit him once before already.

Souta crashed heavily into the already cracked street, destroying it even more in the process. His Nova body was momentarily disable, because of his suddenly disrupted concentration.

Regeneration was once again working overtime to fix his body right up again, just in time to allow Souta to evade the incoming Nomu, by utilizing the highest percentage of OFA he had ever before, 30%.

Having gained another second, Souta first looked towards the previously created ice wave, only to find it in pieces, causing his pupils to constrict.

"That ice should be near absolute zero, and that thing just broke through it…" Souta spoke, suddenly disheartened for the first time since gaining his quirks.

"AXIOM PEAK, LOOK OUT!" a voice shouted all of a sudden.

The next moment the Nomu was already upon him again, this time though, Souta had just enough time to put his arms up to protect himself, before being launched back again. Thanks to the warning though, he was prepared for it.

Directly behind him, a bluish black mist began forming, creating a warp gate through which Souta was brought in an instant. The exit? Barely a few meters behind the Nomu.

"Take this you bastard!" Souta cursed as he pushed both his hands in front of him, creating an enormous azure flame burst, that was unconsciously even further boosted by OFA.

"That should've done it, right?" the slightly smoking boy mumbled, only seeing some before him, before suddenly a silhouette began moving inside of the cloud.

The shook, that one of his strongest attacks ever had apparently dealt zero damage, stopped Souta from moving when he needed to. Luckily, just as the Nomu was on him again, the owner of the voice tackled him to the side, with such momentum they rolled a multiple meters on the cracked streets.

His rescuer, the all familiar grown skinned bunny girl, looked really roughed up by now. Her already relatively tight and sleek hero costume was torn in multiple places, and there were multiple patches of dried blood visible on her body.

Meanwhile, the Nomu was looking to be standing even taller than he had in the beginning. Souta couldn't be too sure, of course, but he could swear that the creature had at least grown a few centimeters.

"Get up, Souta! We can't be standing still around this thing, for too long," Mirko growled through her pained body.

The aspiring hero didn't let her say this again, and immediately pulled himself up from the ground, and also grabbed her, in the last moment before another attack followed.

Continuing from there, it was like a race between cat and mouse. Souta continued evading and trying to escape from the Nomu, though he couldn't go beyond the 25% mark, since Mirko was too injured, for her body to endure those high-speed movements.

After a few heated seconds of back and forth, further destroying everything around them, in the process, Souta managed to gain the second he needed to open a portal towards one of the rooftops of the nearby buildings and rush through before closing it immediately after.

He slumped to the ground, and put Mirko down after taking a long breath.

"Lend"

Souta had already put his hand on her shoulder, and by saying these words, the system's ability activated, calling froth a greenish healing light that covered Mirko's entire body.

"What-, What is happening right now?" Mirko mumbled lightly, as she felt her injuries closing. She had long been accustomed to pain and injuries, but even with the help of many kinds of quirks from doctors all around, this feeling was different.

"Don't worry about it, though I can't really explain it…" Souta said in response, his mind was too occupied with what had just happened to think of a good excuse.

'Where did such a Nomu come from? There shouldn't have been one, right? Or, …did they make one for me, just in case? Could it be a mere coincidence? …,' countless questions occupied Souta's mind.

Just a few minutes ago, he was sure, that most things today would be going according to the original – or rather to what his memories told him should happen.

'Whatever, we still need to stop that thing, and on top of that, there should still be more Nomus roaming the city-', Souta shook his head, there were still too little information, so he turned to the person that should have information available, Mirko.

"What happened here, Mirko-san?"

Mirko spat out a rest of blood, that still remained in her blood, after most injuries had been fixed, before she answered, "After we split up, we encountered multiple of similar of these things, but none on that level."

She made a short pause, with her face turning grim, "Though, I should probably add that this thing was also not at that level in the beginning. Since it was already the strongest around when it all began, Endeavor engaged it into a fight immediately. After that, everything turned south…"

"Where is Endeavor now, and what happened to it?" Souta pressed on.

"I'm not entirely sure, since I was busy fending off some of the weaker ones back then, but… it seemed to grow stronger after every attack from Endeavor. He had also began noticing that, slowly but surely.

When he did, though, it had already been strong enough, to beat nearly every hero on the scene. Since that was the case, I took it upon myself to keep it at least occupied, while everybody else dealt with the rest of those ugly bastards.

And you can probably guess the rest of what had happened after that. There really were some close calls, that I can tell you. And about what happened to, or where the other are, no clue." Mirko eventually finished her retelling of the events, giving Souta a way better overview of the situation.

'Then, my ice… was it just too strong already, or why…?' he thought, before his eyes opened wide in realization, "It's not the flames, or just heat! That thing can probably absorb all kinds of temperature changes, and boost itself with it! Though, there must be a limit, right…"

Souta mumbled the last part, but it was still loud enough for Mirko to hear. The usual so energetic and enthusiastic bunny had a complicated look on her face, "You sure, you want to try to add more heat to that thing?"

"Only if beating its ass won't be enough," Souta sounded confident, but it was as if his body wasn't entirely convinced, seeing how his brow was furrowed, and his body was extremely tense all over.

"No! You have done enough, more than that actually. Its time for us Pro heroes to make our job!" Mirko declared, having regained her strength more or less, at least superficially.

"Sorry, but no! I'm already part of this all, and have not used everything I got yet. I will not let you fight this by yourself." Souta couldn't help but get his resolve back after seeing that the person he had been training under for past few days was now ready to take that thing on, all alone.

Mirko turned her face away for a second, a slight blush had just appeared, after seeing the young man before her getting ready to fight a fight he didn't need to, all because of her. Still, she knew there was no time, her quirk was already thankfully more or less suppressed, thanks to the adrenaline, she really didn't need anything more on her plot right now.

"I know it sounds hypocritical, knowing what I just said, but can you keep that thing occupied for just 10 seconds, no 5 will do!" Souta spoke again, his face was now steeled fully again, a plan was already formed inside of his mind.

"Who do you think you're talking to, I still have my pride as a top ten Hero, you know. I held it back before, and I will do it now. Just tag in, whenever you're ready!" While saying this, Mirko, once more, had a truly feral grin on her face.

Souta nodded, and before he could even open a portal for to get down again, she jumped from the ceiling and… catapulted herself towards the Nomu. Even if the building they were on, was merely about a three story building in height, Souta couldn't help but look after her for a second, completely speechless.

Luckily, he caught himself fast enough and opened a portal right next to him, and immediately put his arm through.

And on the other side was...
