Marvelous Dragon ball

Chapter 6: Sparring

Colleen Wing's eyebrow shot up in surprise, her gaze sharpening. Back when Rex's parents were still alive, she was a frequent customer of Lee's Chinese Restaurant. She had known Rex for years, though they hadn't interacted much. This Chinese American teenager, one year her junior, was usually quiet and shy. But today, he seemed bold and confident, and she had to admit, she enjoyed the compliment. Curious, she couldn't help but ask, "Rex, why was your restaurant closed for so many days? Is there something wrong?"

Rex took a step closer, his gaze unwavering. He gave her a half-truth, hoping she wouldn't press the issue. "Nothing, it's just that my training reached a critical point. I've been practicing in the past few days," he explained, his voice steady.

Colleen's surprise turned to suspicion as she asked, "Practicing? The Lee family has martial arts traditions? How come I don't know of that?!"

Rex shook his head, recalling his earlier lie to Danny. "That's not it. I learned the teachings of the 'Kame Sennin' back when I was a child, but I've never practiced them until now."

Colleen's eyes narrowed, a flicker of interest dancing in them. "Kame Sennin? A strange name! Is he from Chinatown?"

"No," Rex said, shaking his head again. "Do you know of K'un-lun?"

The word 'K'un-lun' sent a shockwave through Colleen, her eyes widening in alarm. She remembered the "geek" she'd met the other day, Danny Rand. She stared at him, stunned, before finally speaking. "Yes, I've heard about that."

Having already lied to Danny, Rex felt more confident in his deception. "We at the 'Kame School,' just like K'un-lun, keep our presence hidden. Back when I was a child, I met the Kame Xiānrén (Daoist immortal, celestial being) by chance as he went to visit the outside world. He accepted me as an apprentice, and taught me how to control Ki, and even how to fly."

Though she was half Chinese, having spent most of her life in Japan and New York, Colleen still recognized words like 'Xiānrén'.

Rex shrugged, a smug grin spreading across his face as he bragged about his supposed Sensei. "He was a Sage indeed, even able to fly in midair!"

"Fly?" Colleen gasped. "You mean, through practicing Ki, people could fly?"

"Yes," Rex nodded. "It's a very advanced technique called Bukujutsu (T/N: lit. 'Dancing Sky Art'). But my Ki is still far too weak, and in this short period of time, I didn't even reach a level high enough to practice it."

Colleen's face was full of disbelief. "How old did you say you were when you met this Sage? I'm starting to feel that you've been cheated!"

Rex laughed, not bothering to argue with her. "Words are empty, you'll see it firsthand later. Soon or later, one day, I will fly before your very eyes!"

Colleen raised her eyebrows, a hint of challenge in her eyes. "Come to my Dojo anytime! I have to see if it's even real martial arts that you've learned!"

This was perfect! Rex was already looking for someone to practice with, to gauge his current level. He looked back and forth, then said, "I'm free now!"

"Alright!" Colleen said, rising to her feet. She left the rice Rex had been preparing for her and said, "Let's go!"

Rex quickly shed his work apron, locking the restaurant door behind him. He walked alongside Colleen, the crisp autumn air nipping at their faces, until they reached her small Dojo.

Colleen walked to a corner, picking up two wooden swords. She asked Rex, "Do you use weapons?"

Rex waved his hands dismissively, a confident smirk playing on his lips. "I don't need them," he said. "I only use my fists. However, I'll make it fair for you, by allowing you to use a sword."

Colleen let out a sharp laugh, her eyes narrowing. She couldn't believe Rex would underestimate her. Her mind set on teaching him a lesson, Colleen advanced, her wooden sword held steady, her gaze locked on his. 'Well, you've asked for this!'

This was Rex's first real fight, and he felt a surge of nervousness. But drawing on Goku's life experience, he quickly calmed himself and lifted his arms, ready to fight. "Let's go!"

"Take this!" Colleen shouted, swinging her wooden sword towards Rex. But she was stunned to see him move with lightning speed, dodging her attack and launching a powerful elbow strike towards her chest!

Colleen's eyes widened in astonishment. 'His form is flawless! His footwork is incredible!'

Colleen's eyes narrowed, and she instinctively lifted her arm to block his elbow, pushing herself back. But Rex was too fast. His side kick followed immediately.

Colleen's mind raced. 'How is he so fast? How did he get so strong?'

Stunned, Colleen gripped her sword with both hands, desperately trying to block his kick. But with a sickening crack, the wood splintered, and her sword shattered under the force of his attack.

Rex's foot smashed through the sword, and his momentum carried him forward. He had to wrench his leg away from Colleen, taking a step back into a "drunken" posture to regain his balance.

Colleen's eyebrows shot up, and she walked silently to the corner of her Dojo. From a cabinet, she retrieved a sheathed Katana, her eyes gleaming with determination. She had seen Rex's power, and she was ready to fight him with everything she had.

The sight of the cold steel sent a shiver down Rex's spine. He knew that with his current Ki level, he wouldn't be able to withstand a real sword strike. If Colleen landed a direct hit, there would be blood.

Rex cursed himself silently. 'I shouldn't have challenged her. Now I'm in over my head.'"

Rex knew his regret was pointless. Colleen, Katana in hand, charged at him. He didn't dare block her weapon, instead relying on his agility to dodge her swings, his eyes constantly searching for an opening.

The stalemate couldn't last. After dodging a dozen swings, Rex's movements began to falter. He lost his balance, his footwork becoming sloppy. Colleen saw her chance and lunged forward, her Katana aimed at his chest.

Rex felt a cold sweat break out on his forehead. The Katana sliced through the air, aimed for his heart. Rex, drenched in sweat, fought against his instinct to dodge. He stepped forward, his right arm straightening, his fingers spreading as he pointed at Colleen's chest. 'Jan Ken: Pa!' he shouted, channeling his Ki into a powerful attack.

A wild wind erupted within the sealed Dojo, swirling around Rex's outstretched hand. Colleen could clearly see that his hand was inches from her chest, yet an invisible force pushed her back. The powerful air current forced her eyes open in shock, her chest compressed by the invisible pressure. Her feet left the ground, and she was launched backwards, flying through the air.
