Chapter 36: THE TEENAGE COUPLES & THE ATTACK

[DING! TODAY ONCE AGAIN, I DECIDED TO MASS RELEASE CHAPTER, A TOTAL OF FIVE CHAPTERS]

[DING! ENJOY!!!]

---------------

High above the fairground on the slowly turning Ferris wheel, Gwen leaned her arms on the safety bar, city reflecting in her bright eyes. The cool breeze tousled her hair as she glanced sideways at Nova, grinning.

"You scared of heights?" she teased.

"Please," Nova smirked. "I'm scared of terrible carnival food decisions, not heights."

Gwen laughed, the sound light and easy, and nudged his shoulder.

"Good. 'Cause I've got a dare for the next round."

---

Harry and Liz screamed as the roller coaster dipped, a sudden drop pulling the wind from their lungs. Liz was laughing so hard tears streamed down her face when they coasted into the station.

Harry's hair was a mess, but his grin was cocky. "Told you I wouldn't scream louder than you."

Liz arched a brow. "I dunno, Osborn. That was definitely a shriek back on the last loop."

"Strategic vocalization," Harry shot back, and she bumped his shoulder, grinning.

---

Ned took aim at the water gun target, tongue between his teeth in focus. Betty elbowed him just as the bell rang, and his stream went wide.

"Cheating!" he cried, but Betty laughed, hands on her hips.

"Life's a competition, Leeds."

"I'm still winning something tonight," Ned declared boldly, and Betty gave him a look both amused and curious.

"Keep dreaming."

---

Inside a spinning teacup, Peter clung to the edge, pale and slightly green as the world blurred around them.

Michelle, completely unaffected, smirked. "Come on, Parker — I thought you had a stronger stomach."

"This… this is fine," Peter managed, earning a wicked grin from Michelle.

"Good," she teased. "'Cause you're buying churros after this."

---

The haunted house was dark, filled with fake fog and flickering lights. MJ pressed close to Felicia, pretending to jump when a rubber bat dropped from the ceiling.

"Wow," Felicia deadpanned. "Such a damsel."

MJ snorted. "Hey — it's called theatrics."

Felicia grinned, looping an arm around her waist. "Well, you're mine to rescue, princess."

They both laughed, shadows swallowing them up ahead.

---

A few hours later, the whole group gradually reconvened at a long picnic table near the food stalls. The air was thick with the scents of funnel cakes, grilled sausages, and sweet roasted nuts. Paper trays piled with greasy fries, corn dogs, and soda cups clattered onto the tabletop as each pair returned from their rides, grinning and a little breathless.

Gwen dropped down beside Nova, her blonde hair a tousled, wind-blown mess, cheeks flushed from laughter. Felicia and MJ arrived hand in hand, MJ smugly dropping a bag of kettle corn in the middle. Harry slid onto the bench beside Liz, while Ned practically bounced into his seat next to Betty, still carrying a ridiculous novelty cup shaped like a rocket.

Peter appeared last, slightly disheveled, Michelle casually nursing a drink at his side. The teasing looks and smug little grins bounced around the table like currency, no one saying it outright — but everyone knew.

"Guess we're all still alive," Gwen quipped, reaching for the fries.

"Barely," Peter muttered, making Michelle smirk.

"Next round's on whoever screamed loudest," Felicia teased, locking eyes with Harry, who groaned dramatically.

The table erupted in easy laughter, the perfect kind of teenage chaos.

---

The easy warmth of laughter was abruptly shattered by a sharp, concussive boom in the distance. The ground gave a faint tremor beneath them as a plume of smoke and fire erupted from the far side of the carnival, the bright, festive glow instantly swallowed by an ominous orange blaze.

Every conversation at their table died on the spot. The sizzle of fries and the sugary scent of popcorn hung awkwardly in the heavy air as panicked screams quickly replaced laughter. People were already scattering, bolting away from the blast's source.

Nova's eyes narrowed immediately. According to his knowledge, the attack during this carnival was carried out by none other than the Green Goblin.

His gaze slid toward Harry, raising a brow.

Harry's face stiffened, his brow dipping low. "That's… that's the board event location."

But Nova's sharp eyes caught it — not fear, not shock. What flickered across Harry's expression wasn't horror.

It was hope. Dark, cold, eager hope.

He wants Norman dead.

Nova said nothing. Not now. There were bigger problems incoming.

Meanwhile, Gwen and MJ exchanged a sharp, knowing look. Quick, practiced. MJ's hand briefly brushed the strap of her backpack — where Nova guessed she carried her Scarlet Spider mask. Gwen's fingers too twitched toward the bag.

The carnival had descended into chaos. The explosion had triggered a panicked stampede, and their once tightly packed group was being shoved and jostled by the tide of fleeing people. In the chaos, Gwen and MJ exchanged a single glance — sharp, practiced — before slipping away into the crowd.

Nova shouted," Grab each other's hand and let's leave."

"Wait — Gwen and MJ are missing!" Betty shouted, spinning around.

"They were just here!" Michelle called out, eyes scanning frantically as the wave of bodies surged around them.

Nova raised his voice above the noise. "Harry — take them! Get out of here, now. I'll find them and bring them back."

Harry hesitated, glancing back toward the distant column of smoke and then to Nova, his jaw clenched. But he remembered that Nova have awakened his mutant ability so he nodded, grabbing Liz by the wrist. "C'mon! Move!"

Betty and Michelle protested, shouting after Gwen and MJ, but Nova cut them off. "Go! I'll handle it!"

Meanwhile, Nova noted that Felicia wasn't as tense as Betty, Liz and Michelle. Maybe she knows the real identity?

The group reluctantly turned and hurried after Harry, disappearing into the crowd as Nova remained behind.

A sharp, metallic whine cut through the screams and smoke, and then — whoosh — a figure shot overhead, standing atop a sleek, menacing glider.

Nova narrowed his eyes as he recognized the twisted, grinning face beneath the metal mask.

Green Goblin.

The man let loose a cruel laugh as he hurled a handful of gleaming, pumpkin-shaped bombs into the air, scattering them toward the scrambling crowd.

But even as they flew, a pair of figures appeared out of nowhere — one in white and pink, the other in deep crimson and black.

Ghost-Spider and Scarlet Spider.

They moved like streaks of light — web-lines firing, hands snatching bombs mid-air, hurling them high above before they could detonate amongst the civilians. The explosions bloomed harmlessly overhead, raining harmless sparks instead of carnage.

The Goblin let out a frustrated snarl. "Spider bitches!" he roared, twisting his glider hard and firing a barrage of razor-edged bat-shaped blades.

Ghost-Spider didn't even flinch at the insult. Gwen's spider sense tingled and lenses flickered, HUD flashing red over the incoming projectiles. She pivoted, firing a precision web-line that snatched one pumpkin bomb mid-flight and hurled it skyward, where it burst harmlessly in a shower of flame and smoke.

Scarlet Spider was already in motion. MJ's crimson suit shimmered as she vaulted over the panicked crowd, one arm snapping up to fire a burst of concussive webbing. It struck the remaining bombs mid-air, detonating them in a controlled burst before they could land.

Nova's sharp gaze tracked their movements — clean, efficient, deadly.

Ghost-Spider's gear was designed for speed and precision. Lightweight polymer mesh, tactical HUD lenses cycling through thermal and threat overlays. Web-shooters on her wrists fired a mix of electrified lines and impact grenades, crackling with suppressed energy. She moved like liquid shadow, a blur of acrobatics and clinical strikes.

Scarlet Spider was flashier but no less lethal. Fire-resistant suit plating along her arms and torso, sensor-jammers fuzzing the glider's onboard targeting. Her acidic webs melted a metal barricade in seconds while her smoke webs concealed bystanders. In one hand, a shock baton crackled to life, its hum lost in the noise of screams and burning debris.

Green Goblin snarled, twisting his glider back around. "You think you can stop me?! You're nothing but costumed pests!" He fired another volley of bladed disks, but Gwen vaulted into the air, twisting gracefully as MJ flanked low.

Meanwhile, Nova wasn't about to stand idle while chaos erupted around him. The screams, the fire, and the violent hum of the Goblin's glider overhead meant the perfect cover for what he had in mind. Slipping through the scattering crowd, Nova sprinted toward a nearby portable restroom cluster — a quick, discreet spot out of sight from the others and cameras.

He ducked inside, locking the flimsy door behind him. The dull roar of the crowd muffled slightly, and he could still hear distant explosions and shouts outside.

"Alright… time to thin the board," Nova muttered darkly.

His fingers moved quickly to the Omnitrix, turning the dial until the silhouette of Four Arms appeared on the faceplate. His goal is to kill Norman here. If he could end the old bastard here, it would easy to deal with the aftermath, death of Norman Osborn by Green Goblin.

Gwen and MJ being present was an inconvenient complication. They were heroes. And heroes didn't take kindly to public executions.

I'll improvise.

Without hesitation, Nova slammed his hand down on the dial.

A brilliant green flash filled the tiny stall, the air crackling with alien energy. In seconds, Nova's form shifted and swelled into the towering, four-armed, red-skinned powerhouse that was Four Arms. His muscles bulged, skin gleaming like polished crimson stone, and four thick fists flexed in anticipation.

A feral grin split his face. "Let's dance, Goblin."
