Chapter 48: "Tony’s Return."

"Sorry, Superman, all those extra features were added by Mr. Stark on his own."
Reed walked over to Peter with a grim look, clearly annoyed by Tony's flashy entrance, and explained.
"Hmm? Oh right, almost forgot—Mr. Richards also contributed some... special tech to this suit,"Tony said casually, clearly trying to deflect now that Reed had ratted him out.
Then he slowly flew over to a metal wall in the lab and raised his hand toward it.
In the next second, a bright blue beam shot out and hit the wall, and a glowing rectangle of light—about two meters tall and less than a meter wide—began to spread across it.
"What is that?"Peter stared at the glowing blue screen on the wall, curiosity in his eyes.
"Heh, just watch..."
Tony chuckled and walked straight into the light. As he passed through, the blue screen rippled gently like water.
Then—boom—Tony's figure reappeared outside the lab, waving back at them.
"What the—?"
Peter turned to look at Reed, clearly surprised.
"Superman, I swear, I didn't invent this to escape or anything!"Reed was sweating bullets as he scrambled to explain.
"It's okay. I just want to know what kind of tech this is,"Peter replied, looking at Reed with a bit of admiration. No wonder people call him the smartest man in the Marvel Universe.
"Uh, well... this was actually something I'd been thinking about for a while,"Reed began. "But back then, I didn't have the equipment or the energy sources to make it work. Now, with all the tech here and the support of something like an arc reactor, I gave it another shot... and it actually worked!"
"But seriously, I never intended to use it to escape. I mean, you're Superman—where could I even run that you wouldn't catch me?"
Seeing that Peter wasn't mad, Reed relaxed and began to explain more clearly.
"So this tech… it lets people walk through walls?"The idea itself sounded almost like magic.
"Well, this is just the basic version of my original concept,"Reed replied.
Everyone in the room was shocked. That was just the basic version?
So what the heck did the full version look like?
"My real plan was to open a gateway to a unique type of space. If I could set up two connected devices at different locations, they'd create a portal—one that ignores space and distance completely. You could go anywhere you wanted, instantly..."Reed's voice grew quieter as he described the wild vision in his head.
"So basically... a sci-fi version of a teleportation portal?"Peter looked at him, genuinely surprised.
This guy was seriously trying to use science to recreate magic.
Right then and there, Peter had a sudden thought—maybe it'd be best to keep Reed locked up and under 24/7 surveillance.
He finally understood why people said, "When Earth isn't under threat, Reed Richards is the biggest threat."
Of course, if you had to pick the most troublemaking group, it'd be Reed, Tony, and their little science gang...
Back to Reed—he was undeniably the smartest genius on Earth, with some insane creative power.
But the problem with his inventions is that before they succeed, they're full of unpredictable danger.
Take this teleportation portal idea, for example—what if, during testing, he accidentally opened a door to some unknown dimension? He could put the entire Earth at risk!
Because in the Marvel universe, there are all sorts of terrifying dimensions.
Some of the famous ones include the Dark Dimension, the Crimson Dimension, and even Hell itself.
"If you ever feel like testing one of your wild ideas again... let me know first,"Peter warned him.
"But I gotta say, I am pretty happy with the nano-suit you guys built."
"It's just... the surface is too smooth, and the whole thing feels too metallic. I think it should show off my muscle definition a bit more."
"The all-black look is definitely cool—very mysterious and intimidating—but it's also kinda plain. I think you could spice it up with some elegant silver or gold lines or patterns."
"Basically, what I'm looking for is that... 'iridescent black' vibe, you feel me?"
Peter was pretty satisfied with the nanotech suit overall—though he did feel like the design still needed a few tweaks.
"No problem! You want it to look more 'low-key,' right? I got you. Low-key is kinda my thing anyway,"
Just as everyone was still trying to figure out what the hell "colorfully black" was supposed to mean, Tony—who had just come back into the lab from outside—immediately chimed in and agreed to Peter's suggestion.
A few hours later, a figure shot through the night sky at lightning speed.
Inside Tony Stark's luxury villa…
A shadowy figure suddenly appeared on the living room couch.
"Secu—Sir, welcome home!"
The moment J.A.R.V.I.S. detected the familiar silhouette and saw him frantically looking around for a trash can, the security alert cut off mid-sentence. The entire house slowly lit up, as if it were welcoming its owner back home.
"Cough cough… J.A.R.V.I.S., long time no see!"
Tony grabbed a bottle of expensive red wine from the fridge, rinsed his mouth with it like mouthwash, and collapsed lazily onto the couch, greeting J.A.R.V.I.S. like it was no big deal.
"Sir, would you like me to notify the others?"
J.A.R.V.I.S. asked calmly, awaiting Tony's decision.
"Nah, it's too late now. Let them rest. We'll tell them in the morning."
Tony thought for a second and waved it off.
"Understood, sir."
With J.A.R.V.I.S.' acknowledgment, the villa fell quiet again.
"That was… one hell of an experience."
Staring up at the familiar ceiling, Tony couldn't stop replaying the whole kidnapping episode in his head.
"Superman… nanotech suit…"
He kept mumbling under his breath, until suddenly, Tony jolted upright from the couch.
"J.A.R.V.I.S.—"
"Yes, sir. Ready when you are."
"Start a new research project. Let's call it… Anti—"
Cough cough "Actually, just call it Nanotech Armor Mark I."
Tony quickly ditched the weird impulse to name it something dramatic and settled on a more "normal" name.
"Right, and help me buy up and track down experimental facilities and special materials around the world…"
"Understood, sir. New project has been created. Orders for materials and labs have been placed. They're being prioritized for delivery…"
"Anything else you'd like me to do?"
As J.A.R.V.I.S. asked, Tony sank into deep thought.
After a long pause, Tony finally spoke again:"J.A.R.V.I.S., pull up everything you can find on Superman."
"And one more thing—get me every Superman comic ever published…"
"But sir, I thought you said those were for—uh, three-year-o—"
Cough cough "J.A.R.V.I.S., maybe you should learn how to talk with a little more emotional intelligence, so your boss doesn't feel awkward."
Tony, the eternal example of "if I'm not embarrassed, you should be," declared shamelessly.
"Yes, sir. I'll work on that…"
"Nanotech, huh… I gotta admit, you've really opened up some possibilities for my future."
As Tony remembered what it felt like to wear the suit in the lab earlier today, a dazed but delighted smile spread across his face.
"….."
