Chapter 62: CHAPTER 62: The Cure
Sewers
Standing on a platform, the Lizard gazed at the briefcase with satisfaction.
"I can finally complete my evolution."
But the moment he opened it, his expression twisted in fury.
"DAMN SPIDER-WOMAN!!!"
"YOU TRICKED ME!!"
Inside the briefcase, there was only a single vial of the serum.
It didn't take much to guess that Spider-Woman had taken the other one.
To confirm the authenticity of the remaining vial, the Lizard quickly inspected it.
Once he was sure it was genuine, he let out a sigh of relief.
"Spider-Woman… Even with just one vial, I can still lead humanity to the next stage of evolution."
"It won't be long now. I WILL BECOME A GOD IN THIS WORLD!!"
A strange, chilling laugh echoed through the sewers.
---
Outside a New York City Building
Perched on the side of a building, Gwen looked at the serum in her hand and smiled faintly.
"This time, I'd call it a draw."
Back when the Lizard landed, Gwen hadn't reacted instantly—not because she was caught off guard, but because she had figured out his plan.
Before handing over the case, she secretly took one vial for herself.
She had left one inside intentionally, fearing the Lizard might ignore her bluff and check the case on the spot.
With a vial still in the case, he was less likely to come after her.
After all, one vial was just as useful as two.
"Ruby, give me the lab's location."
[On it, Gwen.]
---
Arthur's House
Ruby gave a full report of the situation.
Arthur nodded with satisfaction.
"Looks like Gwen is getting better and better at this."
"Ruby, did you collect all the combat data from tonight?"
[Yes, Master.]
[I've already created a new database to assist with Gwen's next suit. Tonight's combat data is being uploaded.]
[Would you like to name the new suit, Master?]
"Hm…"
Arthur scratched his chin, amused.
Tony called his suits the Marks.
Arthur also knew that Tony would eventually create specialized suits for different scenarios—like the Hulkbuster or Thorbuster.
"Let's call it the Ghost-Spider Battlesuit."
It wasn't the name Gwen used right now, but it suited her perfectly.
A 3D projection of the new suit appeared before Arthur.
[Once the printer pod arrives, these designs can be used to fabricate the new suits.]
That's why Arthur had asked JARVIS for a 3D printing pod.
With it, Gwen could have different suits tailored to any situation.
You had to admit, Tony Stark's genius was impressive—even something like this was made easy.
"Has Gwen already reached the Stark Industries lab?"
[Yes. Norman Osborn and several Oscorp employees have also arrived at the Oscorp building.]
[They're speaking with the police.]
"Norman Osborn…"
The name rang familiar for Arthur—not because of the businessman's public image, of course.
But because he knew him as one of Spider-Man's greatest enemies: the Green Goblin.
"Forget about Oscorp for now. Focus on helping Gwen."
[Understood.]
With that, Ruby's voice faded.
At that moment, without Arthur noticing, something crawled silently across the wall behind him.
A small spider scurried up his clothes and toward his neck.
"Ack!" Arthur winced in pain as the spider bit him.
Reacting instinctively, he slapped the spot—and glanced at his hand.
There, a tiny red spider with blue legs twitched.
"Please tell me this isn't what I think it is…" he muttered, stunned.
It was unmistakably a genetically engineered spider.
"How the hell did that end up here…?" Arthur mumbled, confused.
Then, his eyes widened as a sudden thought struck him—something that shouldn't have been possible.
"That spider came from another universe… Probably because of that collider…"
"Damn you, Kingpin. Even from another universe—and dead—you're still causing problems." Arthur sighed and shook his head.
When he looked back at his hand, the spider's remains were gone.
"Of course that would happen…"
"Crap, Gwen's definitely going to make me wear that suit now…" Arthur sighed again and headed to the kitchen to make something to eat.
---
Meanwhile, at the Stark Industries Lab
Gwen had already changed out of her suit and entered the lab.
The moment she stepped inside, she froze in awe.
"Wow~"
Gwen was no stranger to advanced biology. After all, how else could she have created her web-shooters?
She immediately recognized that the equipment here was top-tier.
Compared to this, the labs at Empire State University were practically junk.
"Tony Stark actually let us borrow this lab?"
She could hardly believe it.
[Yes, Gwen. Please place the vial on the platform.]
[I'll begin the analysis right away.]
Since the lab lacked a projection system, Ruby could only communicate through Gwen's earpiece.
However, for the sake of efficiency and precision, all of Tony's labs—including those at Stark Industries—were fully integrated with JARVIS.
Ruby had no trouble taking control of the facility.
A platform slid into position, and Gwen placed the vial onto it.
"Ruby, how long will it take to develop a serum to turn Peter back into a human?"
Now that the other vial was in the Lizard's hands, time was short.
If he unleashed the formula on the city first...
It would be a disaster.
[Don't worry. Peter Parker only has one vial of that serum.]
[Even if he plans to turn others into lizards like him, it will take time.]
[By my calculations, we have three days before he's ready.]
"So we have three—"
[Two days. I'll finish it in two.]
Before Gwen could finish, Ruby cut in confidently.
It would only take her two days to develop the cure.
"Good."
---
Outside Oscorp
Captain George led a group of officers out of the building. Norman stood at the entrance, watching them go with a grim expression.
Once they were gone, the general manager beside him muttered,
"Boss, wasn't it a bit generous to let them go so easily?"
Smack!
Norman slapped him across the face.
"What did you expect? Let them stay and start digging around?"
"Everyone saw that monster break into Oscorp."
The manager understood.
If the media got hold of this, the entire company could be ruined.
No wonder Norman was in such a foul mood.
"I can't believe the serum was taken by that monster…"
"Did he steal it to make a mate for himself?"
As a biologist, Norman's first thought was biological instinct.
Had he known this would happen, he would've just let George take the two vials earlier today.
"Go back and check if anything else is missing."
"Understood…"
