Chapter 55: Chapter 55: The Sky Fortress, Complete
With the death of the last Hydra member, the system's notification of task completion rang in his ears.
Garus orchestrated an "accident," and a raging fire spread throughout the chemical plant. Before long, the roaring flames consumed all the mangled bodies and the factory itself.
Using the Death Gate, he returned to the villa, where he found Wanda weaving scarlet threads of Chaos Magic into the shape of a structure. It bore a striking resemblance to Naxxramas, the necropolis of the Scourge.
When she finally stopped, Garus asked, "Have you mastered the crystal's knowledge on how to construct a sky fortress?"
Wanda replied, "Yes, we can begin building it at any time. But we'll need a vast amount of materials, many of which I've never encountered before."
"Materials won't be an issue. Tomorrow, we'll start building the new X-Academy," Garus said, his spirits high. As for the laborers, he could summon his undead army.
The next day, Wilson Fisk had a private plane prepared for them, fully fueled and able to bypass military airspace. The plane carried them southward toward Antarctica.
As they approached the vast expanse of ice, with no signs of human activity for miles, Garus instructed the pilot, "Here. Set us down."
After landing, Garus dismissed the pilot. The frigid Antarctic air was no problem for either him or Wanda.
Surveying the endless white expanse, Wanda asked with some skepticism, "You want to build a city here? Where will you get the materials and workers?"
With only the two of them present, she couldn't fathom where Garus would find what he needed in this desolate place.
Without a word, Garus moved to an open area and accessed the system's inventory. Suddenly, piles of materials materialized on the ice plain—dark iron ore, mithril, saronite, frozen orbs, and obsidian among them—forming a small mountain. Yet, this was merely a fraction of what was required to construct an entire city.
"What...?" Wanda's jaw dropped. She couldn't understand where all these materials had come from.
"Now we begin," Garus declared.
Constructing a city wasn't a short-term endeavor. The old X-Academy's teleport beacon had been destroyed, so Garus established a new one here, anticipating a lengthy stay in this barren wilderness.
Plunging Frostmourne into the ice, Garus activated a massive magic circle on the ground. Thousands of skeletal undead emerged, crossing through dimensions from the plane of death. Souls from the runeblade flowed into the skeletons, igniting blue soul flames in their eye sockets. These skeletal workers were the ideal laborers for heavy construction within the undead army.
Under Garus's command, the skeletons hauled the materials and loaded them into massive smelters he summoned.
Wanda, still struggling to comprehend the surreal scene, snapped out of her daze only after Garus shouted her name a few times.
"Wanda, what's next on the agenda?"
Floating above the material pile, Wanda replied, "We need to create the fortress's foundation first. I'll carve the levitation runes into it."
As Wanda inscribed a vast, intricate rune array onto the foundation, the levitation array slowly activated. The base of the sky fortress began to rise into the air.
Even with thousands of skeletal laborers working tirelessly, it took Garus and Wanda several months to complete the monumental project.
When the massive fortress finally hovered above the Antarctic wasteland, Garus felt an immense sense of accomplishment. This city was his own creation.
To ensure the fortress's survival in this dangerous world, Garus spent nearly all his accumulated system points to acquire dozens of mana cannons, which he strategically placed across the sky fortress.
One final system remained to be installed: the reflective cloaking array.
In a different part of Azeroth Technology, Garus sought out General Kallruth, who was busy compiling intelligence from his subordinates.
Despite their advanced technology, Kallruth and his soldiers were stranded on Earth with only rudimentary systems, far inferior to what they had in Skrullos. The reflective cloaking system was one of the few exceptions.
"What do you need, Mr. Garus?" Kallruth asked. The general was growing impatient, as the elemental energy he had been gathering was still insufficient to reactivate his fleet.
"I need your help installing the reflective cloaking system on my sky fortress," Garus explained.
"Very well," Kallruth conceded. With no immediate tasks, he was curious to see this so-called sky fortress.
When Kallruth stepped through the Death Gate and arrived in Antarctica, his eyes widened in shock. A massive, pyramid-like structure floated midair, its corners adorned with enormous skulls—reminiscent of the plague cauldrons used by the Scourge in Azeroth. Wanda had faithfully recreated them.
The floating city cast a vast shadow over the ice. Kallruth couldn't spot any conventional propulsion systems like engine exhaust, suggesting the use of advanced anti-gravity mechanisms far beyond Earth's current technological capabilities.
Even S.H.I.E.L.D.'s helicarriers required four massive engines combined with anti-gravity technology to stay airborne for extended periods.
After another month of work, the cloaking system was fully integrated.
Though Kallruth had been on Earth for years, this was the first time he began to see its potential. Earth's technology was primitive compared to his own world, but its mystical forces far surpassed anything he had encountered in Skrullos.
This realization calmed his impatience. Even if he found his queen, his current strength was insufficient to oppose the increasingly powerful Kree. Cooperation with Garus might be the key to achieving his dreams.
The new X-Academy was divided into five zones: the Superpower Training Arena, Residential Area, Research Center, Storage Facility, and Command Center.
"Wow! Headmaster, is this our new school? It's so much bigger than before!"
The students emerged from the teleportation array, marveling at the spacious campus. Some excitedly ran around, exploring the area. The fortress could house tens of thousands, though there were only about sixty residents for now.
"Whoosh!"
Garus felt a gust of wind and noticed a blur pass by him. He recognized Pietro, who exclaimed, "Garus, is this the fortress you and Wanda built? It's massive—and floating!"
Smiling proudly, Garus replied, "Yes, this is the Sky Fortress, hidden in the sky. It's our new X-Academy. I'll continue adding new facilities to it in the future."
For now, Garus had no intention of allowing outsiders into this new academy. It would remain a hidden sanctuary.
