Marvel : Deadpool Is My Best Friend

Chapter 163: Chapter 163 : As long as I am here for one more day, Hell's Kitchen will not be harmed

Alex Ray slowly descended from the sky. As soon as his feet touched the ground, a swarm of people surged toward him like a horde of zombies.

He slapped his forehead, a pang of regret hitting him. "Damn, I screwed up. Should've flown straight back to Hell's Kitchen."

Alex had figured the nuclear missile was no big deal. He'd only been in the spotlight for a few seconds. He never expected it to draw such a crowd.

In his mind, sure, the nuke was intimidating, but in practice? Any half-decent superhero or villain could've handled it with ease.

He saw it as a glorified scare tactic, yet the federal government treated it like the holy grail.

Plus, as the so-called Lord of Hell's Kitchen, he assumed no one would care enough to show up.

What Alex didn't realize was that to the people of Manhattan, the nuclear missile was far more than a mere threat—it was a world-ending weapon, and his actions had saved countless lives.

He wasn't looking for trouble. All he wanted was to get out of there and back to Hell's Kitchen.

With a light push off the ground, he prepared to take flight.

But just as he was about to soar, a voice cut through the crowd, stopping him cold: "Mr. Ray! Mr. Alex Ray, please, just a moment! I'm the reporter you saved!" The voice was thick with gratitude and reverence.

Alex turned to see a woman pushing through the crowd, clutching a microphone and struggling to get closer.

Behind her, a cameraman lugged a heavy rig, doing his best to keep up.

Alex's brow furrowed. He hated being the center of attention.

The woman was Alice, the reporter he'd pulled from the jaws of the nuclear missile's threat.

She reached him, gave a deep bow, and introduced herself: "Hello, Mr. Ray. I'm Alice, a reporter. You just saved my life. Thank you so much. Could I have a moment for a quick interview?"

Alex's frown deepened. Being watched and questioned wasn't his thing. All he wanted was to live quietly.

But seeing the hopeful spark in Alice's eyes, he couldn't bring himself to shut her down.

"Fine, but just a few questions. I'm on a tight schedule," Alex said, nodding reluctantly.

Alice's face lit up. She signaled the cameraman to start rolling and launched into her interview.

"Mr. Ray, thank you for saving everyone in Manhattan. This is a far cry from the rumors about the Lord of Hell's Kitchen, painted as pure evil. What was going through your mind when you stopped that nuclear missile? Did you wrestle with the decision for long? Were you prepared to die? Was it justice in your heart that drove you to act?"

Alice fired off questions, her expression earnest, hoping her words could chip away at the misconceptions and prejudices Manhattan's residents held against Hell's Kitchen.

She knew the people of Hell's Kitchen had long been saddled with unfair labels, and this moment could shift that narrative.

Alex listened to her barrage of questions and let out a loud, bitter laugh.

His smile carried a mix of resignation and candor, as if he were mocking both his own predicament and the absurdity of the world.

He shook his head slightly. "I didn't do this for Manhattan's residents. I was protecting Hell's Kitchen. You folks were just… collateral saves."

His words stunned the crowd.

They'd assumed Alex had fought for all of Manhattan, not just his own corner of it.

His blunt honesty earned both respect and a twinge of envy for Hell's Kitchen.

"As for being ready to die? For a few nukes?" Alex continued, his tone light, almost cocky. "Come on."

To him, the missiles—terrifying to most—were barely a challenge.

What he didn't know was that the interview was streaming live.

His words, his whole demeanor, reached every corner of Manhattan.

The residents were moved by his raw honesty and resolve, but a flicker of jealousy stirred for the people of Hell's Kitchen, who had such a fierce protector.

Alice's face tightened with worry. She feared Alex's words would be misread, undermining his efforts. "Mr. Ray, this is a live broadcast," she said pointedly.

She was nudging him to soften his tone, to say something that would make the public grateful, maybe even admire him.

Alex caught her meaning but didn't budge.

"I just did it on a whim," he said flatly. "As long as I'm in Hell's Kitchen, no one there gets hurt. Everyone else? That was just incidental."

The crowd reeled at his words.

His blunt indifference was staggering.

"In my eyes, honestly, no one matters more than the people of Hell's Kitchen," Alex went on, his gaze steady, unapologetic.

His words were cold but rang with undeniable truth.

"I don't need your thanks. I don't care if you're grateful or scared of me."

His statement hit the viewers like a sledgehammer, impossible to ignore or argue with.

Alice, growing desperate, pressed, "Don't you want to change how people see Hell's Kitchen? Don't you want to break down the walls and prejudices between Manhattan and your home? This is your chance. You're Manhattan's savior. One explanation, one call to action, and you could shift how everyone sees Hell's Kitchen."

Alice was laying it on thick, practically begging him to seize the moment. It bordered on manipulation, but she didn't want him to squander this opportunity.

Manhattan's residents owed Alex their lives.

At this pivotal moment, every eye in the city was on him.

Her words struck a chord with the audience. They began to question their own biases, wondering if they'd unfairly judged Hell's Kitchen.

"You're right," some thought quietly. "If he speaks up, maybe we'll rethink Hell's Kitchen."

They knew his influence could sway their perceptions if he chose to wield it.

But not everyone bought into Alice's plea.

Some scoffed, thinking Alex was just playing them, trying to guilt-trip them into submission.

"Just watch, he's gonna lecture us about how great Hell's Kitchen is and guilt us into agreeing. Don't fall for it!" they muttered.

They clung to their beliefs, refusing to let Alex's words sway them.
