Chapter 15: Chapter 15 Aunt May is in the Hospital
[Harry wanted Norman to get to know Mary Jane better. It had been his hope that their interaction would smooth over lingering tensions, but suddenly, Norman seemed eager to leave. Without a word, he turned toward the door. Harry, frustrated by his father's abruptness, reached out and grabbed his hand.]
[Norman, dominated by the Green Goblin's twisted influence, turned sharply toward his son. "Do you really think she's with you because of your sparkling personality?" he sneered, his tone venomous. Harry blinked, startled by the sudden hostility. "What are you talking about?" he asked.]
[Norman pressed on mercilessly, bringing up Harry's late mother. "Your mother and Mary Jane... both beautiful, charming... until they see the trust fund. That's when they turn into jackals," he spat, his words cutting deeper than Harry expected.]
[The meaning was clear. Harry wanted to protest, insisting that Mary Jane wasn't that kind of person, but Norman's derision continued. "A word of advice," he said, his voice cold. "If you're going to keep her, make the most of it. Then cut her loose."]
[The room fell into an icy silence. Everyone had heard the exchange between father and son, and the weight of Norman's cruel words lingered in the air. Mary Jane, unable to hide her embarrassment, stood abruptly and grabbed her coat. "I think I should leave," she said softly.]
[Harry, still reeling, turned to the others. "Did everyone hear that?" he asked. Mary Jane, her voice steady but tinged with anger, replied, "Yes, we all heard what that asshole said!" Though Norman had initiated the insult, Harry bristled at her choice of words. "Don't call him that!" he snapped, but Mary Jane ignored him and apologized to Aunt May before leaving.]
[Peter shook his head, disheartened by the scene. He couldn't deny the truth—that Norman's behavior had spiraled out of control, and his words had left scars that wouldn't heal easily.]
Harry looked at his father on the screen, who looked kind on the surface but was extremely evil at heart, and closed his eyes in pain. That damn serum turned his father into a devil!
"MJ! Believe me, my father is not that kind of person. He must have been influenced by that damn evil personality to say such things!" Harry looked at Mary Jane, who was secretly brought by Peter not long ago because she was so annoyed by those reporters that she could hardly stay at home. Even her parents were deeply troubled by them, and it happened that Harry called her at that time.
"It's okay," Mary Jane muttered, though her voice betrayed her discomfort. Norman's accusations weren't entirely baseless, and deep down, she knew it. She had always been drawn to people who could offer her stability and excitement—a dangerous combination that often left her conflicted.
Seeing her distress, Harry approached and placed a comforting arm around her shoulders. Peter, standing nearby, remained silent. His feelings for Mary Jane were slowly fading, especially after watching the events on The Screen. He realized that her admiration had never been for him but for Spider-Man and the allure of wealth and charm.
Still, watching her being comforted by someone else stirred a pang of emotion in Peter. He swallowed it down, resolving to let go of the feelings he had held onto since childhood.
[On The Screen, the Green Goblin's voice echoed ominously. "Spider-Man is unbeatable... but Peter Parker is not."]
["I can't do it!" Norman's voice trembled with pain, the internal conflict evident in his words.]
["You must teach him a lesson!" the Green Goblin hissed. "Make him suffer! Break his spirit and leave him with nothing. Attack his heart, not his body."]
[Norman, kneeling before the Green Goblin mask, asked weakly, "What next?"]
["Then you kill him," the Green Goblin replied coldly, its voice dripping with malice. "Smart men don't attack the enemy—they attack what the enemy loves."]
"Oh no," Tony muttered, his expression grim as he watched the scene unfold. "He's going after someone close to Peter—Aunt May or Mary Jane."
Peter, too, felt a chill run down his spine. His fears were confirmed as The Screen revealed the Green Goblin's next move.
[That night, Aunt May sat in her modest room, staring at a picture of Uncle Ben. Her lips moved softly as she prayed, the words of her devotion offering her comfort. Suddenly, an explosion shattered the calm. The Green Goblin appeared on his glider, his malevolent presence filling the room. Aunt May froze in terror, clutching her hands tightly as she continued to pray. "Finish the prayer!" the Green Goblin commanded, his voice a terrifying blend of mockery and menace.]
[Peter arrived at the hospital later that night, his heart pounding. Aunt May lay in a hospital bed, her wails of pain echoing in the halls as nurses tended to her. Peter's stomach churned when she mentioned "yellow eyes," confirming his worst fear—the Green Goblin knew his identity.]
"I'm sorry! Peter, I'm sorry, Aunt May! Please forgive my father!" Harry knelt in front of Aunt May in pain and sincerely apologized for what his father had done. Uncle Ben and Aunt May hurried forward to help him up.
Uncle Ben and Aunt May, though shaken, rushed to comfort Harry. "Harry, this isn't your fault," Aunt May said softly, stroking his face with maternal affection. "We're all fine, aren't we?"
Aunt May stroked Harry's face with a distressed look on her face. She treated Harry as her nephew. Although his father made a mistake, it was none of his fault.
"Your Aunt May is right, Harry, this is not your fault. Norman has been cured by Peter, and he won't hurt anyone anymore. But you have to promise me not to let those serum be misused!" Ben also comforted Harry. He didn't want Harry to live in pain like this.
"Thank you!" Harry wiped the tears from his eyes and thanked the two of them solemnly.
[In the ward, Peter held the hand of the comatose Aunt May, and after a long silence, he apologized to her. From his expression, it can be seen that he felt very guilty because he had hurt Aunt May.]
[The next morning, Mary Jane came to the hospital to visit Aunt May. Peter told her that Aunt May had slept all day. He thanked Mary Jane for visiting Aunt May. ]
[The two talked briefly about the events of the previous night. Mary Jane blamed herself for leaving Aunt May alone, but Peter reassured her that she couldn't have known what would happen. Their conversation shifted to Harry, and Mary Jane admitted that he had called her, but she hadn't returned the call yet.]
["Actually," Mary Jane said hesitantly, "I think I've fallen for someone else." Peter raised an eyebrow. "Seriously?" he asked, trying to mask his curiosity. Mary Jane nodded, her cheeks flushing slightly. "At least, I think so."]
[She described the person as someone who had saved her twice, though she'd never seen his face. Peter couldn't suppress a small smile, knowing exactly who she meant. "Spider-Man, huh?" he teased, his tone lighthearted. Mary Jane rolled her eyes, but her smile betrayed her amusement.]
[Peter, pretending to be close to Spider-man because of his photo, began to praise the hero. "He's mentioned you," he said, grinning. "He said that when he looks at you, everything feels... different. Stronger, weaker, exciting, and terrifying all at once."]
[Aunt May, awake and listening quietly, smiled warmly at Peter's words. Mary Jane reached out to take his hand, touched by his sincerity. At that moment, Harry walked in, carrying a bouquet of flowers. Peter quickly pulled his hand away, and an awkward tension filled the room. Greeting Harry with a forced smile, Peter tried to maintain composure.]
[Later that night, Harry returned home, only to hear a strange laugh echo through the house. "Dad?" he called, climbing the stairs. Norman appeared in the doorway, his face eerily calm. "What's wrong?" Norman asked. Harry hesitated before blurting out, "You were right about Mary... she's in love with Peter."]
[Norman's expression darkened. "Does Peter care for her?" he asked coldly. Harry nodded. "He's had a crush on her since fourth grade. He acts indifferent, but she's always been the one he cares about most."]
[Norman apologized to Harry for not spending enough time with him for so many years. Harry expressed his understanding of his father. Norman thought it was just an excuse. He was proud of Harry and he shouldn't have ignored Harry. He would make it up to him and claimed that he would seek justice for him! Then the two hugged each other! ]
