Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife

Chapter 1513: Return ( 2 )

Knowing that Han Liling was unwilling to meet her parents, Han Yuheng had only asked Zhang Ermu to pick up his brother and his daughter.

Seeing them come out, Zhang Ermu walked over and said, "Brother Han, I have come to pick you up."

Hearing this, Han Yuluo knew it was arranged by his brother and replied with a smile, "Thank you for coming, Brother Zhang."

Zhang Ermu nodded and helped them carry the luggage. After they loaded everything onto the cart, the people sent by the Huang family took the train back to the city.

They would receive the same payment regardless of how many days the job took, so after completing their task, they quickly returned to the city to take on another job.

When Zhang Ermu saw Huang Yuanfeng, he recalled the news about what had happened to her back then. But he didn't show any disgust or disdain in his eyes. He simply nodded at her and began driving the cart.

Besides his family and close friends, he didn't care much about other people's private matters. What's more, he had never thought that the incident was Huang Yuanfeng's fault.

Two hours later, they finally reached the county town. Glancing at the children and his girlfriend, Han Yuluo said, "Brother Zhang, can you stop at the state-owned restaurant first? I want to buy some breakfast."

"Okay," Zhang Ermu nodded and drove the cart in another direction.

After the bullock cart stopped, Han Yuluo got down and walked into the restaurant. As they waited outside, Zhang Ermu took out the breakfast prepared by his wife.

It was only a simple scallion pancake, but as it used oil and had some egg filling, the scent was so fragrant that Han Lihua and Han Liling couldn't help but swallow.

Noticing this, Zhang Ermu divided a scallion pancake in half and gave it to them. The children glanced at Huang Yuanfeng and only took the pancake after she nodded.

Not long after, Han Yuluo returned with the food. He had bought some steamed buns and handed them to the children and his girlfriend.

"Brother Zhang, have some steamed buns," he said.

Zhang Ermu didn't refuse and took a steamed bun while saying, "Thank you, Brother Han."

Although Han Yuheng would pay him later, he still didn't feel embarrassed accepting a steamed bun.

While they ate, the Li family was bustling with activity.

After the Li brothers visited the elders a few days ago to tell them about the family gaining a daughter, the nearby relatives came to visit shortly after sunrise.

When Father Li saw that even the family elders had arrived so early, he was taken aback. He quickly sent his grandson to inform his sons and daughters-in-law.

As they sat in the living room, Father Li said, "Uncles, brothers, we didn't expect you to visit so soon after we informed you."

After sipping his warm soy milk, the third granduncle said, "Nephew, it's great news that our family has finally welcomed a newborn daughter."

"After hearing the news, your third aunt was so anxious that she almost came the same day your sons visited us. If I hadn't held her back, she might have come even before the sun rose," he added with a smile.

Hearing this, Father Li smiled and replied, "This is indeed great news for our family. Since everyone is here, I would like to ask the elders to open the ancestral hall and register my granddaughter's name into the family genealogy book."

After he said this, the second granduncle took out an old book and said, "Don't worry, we already brought the book. We can open the hall after my great-grandniece's full-month celebration. For now, we should register her name first."

When everyone heard this, they nodded in agreement. Li Chenze exchanged glances with his brothers when they heard it. The three of them had just returned from the pigpen when their father sent Li Jingquan to inform them that the family elders were at home.

Due to their sudden visit, the family was busy. While they entertained the guests, Pan Meijia and Lu Jueyu were preparing meals in the kitchen.

Fortunately, Mother Zhang was taking care of Zhang Dongmei and the baby. Otherwise, they would have lacked the manpower to prepare so much food in less than two hours.

As the second granduncle opened the book, he asked, "Nephew, have you decided on my great-grandniece's formal name?"

Father Li nodded and replied, "Second uncle, we have chosen the name. It's Jing as in 'scenery' and Qiu as in 'autumn.'"

The second granduncle nodded and wrote down the name under Father Li's family tree, right below Li Chenze's and Zhang Dongmei's names.

After recording the name, Pan Meijia entered the living room and said, "Father, the meal is ready. Can we serve it now?"

Father Li nodded and said, "Uncles, brothers, we didn't have time to prepare anything special. Please don't dislike the simple dishes and stay to have a meal with us."

Everyone had come so early and was indeed feeling hungry, so they didn't refuse Father Li's invitation and nodded.

Due to the number of people, they moved the tables to the front yard. With the morning breeze and warm sunlight, it was delightful to eat there.

After they set up the tables and chairs, the Li brothers went to the kitchen to bring out the food. They had prepared a big pot of vegetable and chicken porridge, scallion pancakes, meat sauces, and steamed buns. Considering the elderly couldn't eat hard food, they also made savory tofu pudding.

They set up five tables, with the men and women seated separately. While the Li family enjoyed their breakfast, the neighbors watched from behind the fences.

At first, they thought the Li family was holding a banquet to celebrate the newborn daughter, but when they saw the simple dishes, they lost interest. It seemed to be a family gathering only.

The relatives and elders stayed for a few more hours before leaving the Li household. Though reluctant, they couldn't stay the whole day, as it would be considered rude.
