Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife

Chapter 1346: Another Contribution ( 2 )

Li Chenmo nodded and explained, "When we went to the mountain foothills to gather bamboo shoots, my wife asked me if it was possible to use bamboo instead of iron frames and thatch instead of plastic."

"When I heard her suggestion, I thought it was worth trying. So, we experimented with bamboo poles and thatch. While these materials were easier to obtain and significantly cheaper, their ability to retain heat wasn't as effective as plastic."

"Besides that, using thatch also blocked sunlight from entering the greenhouse, unlike transparent plastic. Because of this, we made modifications to the design."

At this point, the brigade secretary opened the envelope and examined the design. The moment he saw the modification, his eyes lit up. With a movable rooftop, using thatch as a replacement for plastic became feasible.

"How about temperature control?" he asked.

Li Chenmo pointed to another design and said, "We don't have a way to regulate the temperature in summer, so we can only open the doors for ventilation and close the roof at midday to prevent excessive heat buildup."

"But, we connected bamboo pipes from the greenhouse to an outdoor stove. By burning firewood, the heat from the stove is transferred to the greenhouse through the bamboo pipes."

"Using this method, we should be able to control the temperature during winter. Since our brigade is close to the mountains, obtaining enough firewood won't be an issue."

Then, he pointed to the last design and added, "My family has built several greenhouses. We noticed that if we watered them manually, it would take a lot of effort. During the busy period, it was unavoidable to neglect the greenhouse."

"So, my wife and I designed an irrigation system. Since our house is near a mountain spring, we connected it to a water tank."

"We were concerned that using a traditional irrigation system might flood our house, so we used smaller bamboo pipes and drilled tiny holes to allow water to drip slowly."

"These holes are connected directly to the roots of the crops through bamboo pipes. This way, the water is absorbed efficiently by the roots, reducing the overall water consumption needed for irrigation."

The more the brigade secretary listened, the more excited he became. While there was still room for improvement, this irrigation system was a breakthrough.

Using less water meant that crops could still be irrigated effectively even during a drought. Moreover, if greenhouses could be built using alternative materials, this method could be promoted nationwide. The potential benefits were limitless!

He looked at Li Chenmo and said, "Comrade Li, you and your wife have made an incredible contribution to our country!"

Receiving such high praise, Li Chenmo smiled and replied, "Comrade, contributing to the country and benefiting the people is what my family should do as members of the party."

"The only drawback of using bamboo is that it requires more maintenance to check for pest damage and potential blockages in the water system."

The brigade secretary nodded and said, "I will make sure to remind everyone about this issue."

As he packed up the documents, Li Chenmo said, "Comrade, if possible, my wife and I would prefer to keep our identities a secret."

Hearing this, the brigade secretary looked at him and asked, "Comrade Li, if we don't announce your contribution, how will the central government reward you?"

"Comrade, we don't want any rewards. As long as this method spreads nationwide and could help control the food shortage, that will be enough. Besides, we are just villagers. If people find out about our identities, it might lead to jealousy and bring trouble to my family."

The brigade secretary's eyes flickered when he heard his words. As someone who had worked in the government for decades, he understood that politics involved many different factions.

If certain groups with ulterior motives learned about Li Chenmo and his wife's contribution, they might try to recruit them—or, in the worst case, eliminate them.

Realizing this, he nodded and said, "Comrade Li, don't worry. I will keep your identities confidential."

"Thank you, Comrade."

Since they wished to remain anonymous, this matter could only be reported directly to the higher-ups.

Having accomplished his goal, Li Chenmo stood up and said, "Comrade, I still have work to do at home, so I will take my leave now."

The brigade secretary stood up as well and said, "Thank you for your hard work, Comrade. I will make sure your contribution is reported directly to the leaders."

This time, Li Chenmo didn't refuse and nodded. "Then, I will have to trouble you with this matter."

Patting his shoulder, the brigade secretary laughed and said, "If you ever have more 'trouble' like this, come find me anytime."

If everyone brought him this kind of trouble, their brigade would soon be recognized by the central government as one of the most outstanding contributors in history.

With the brigade secretary personally seeing him off, Li Chenmo and his family's reputation in the brigade office soared.

Everyone was curious about what he had discussed with the brigade secretary that had made the old man beam with joy.

But no matter how hard they tried to pry information from Jiang Zemin, he was like a tightly shut clam—refusing to open his mouth.

At the same time, Lu Jueyu was playing with her newborn nephews while Wang Muxiao changed their diapers.

Seeing how much she liked children, Wang Muxiao smiled and asked, "Jueyu, how has your health been lately?"

"Aside from some dizziness and nausea, I'm fine," Lu Jueyu replied.

"I heard from Ah Hua that you agreed to help with Sister Liu Piao's wedding banquet. If you are not feeling well, it's perfectly fine to refuse. I'm sure they will understand," Wang Muxiao said.

Knowing her second sister-in-law was worried about her, Lu Jueyu smiled and reassured her, "Don't worry, Second Sister-in-law. I will only be giving instructions on the side. Ah Li and Jianmin will be the ones cooking."

Wang Muxiao was taken aback by her words. She looked at her sister-in-law and asked, "Jueyu, are you sure they can handle it?"
