Male Lead Is Always That Heartless

Chapter 26.2

Chapter 26.2

Zhao Wan’s eyes widened as she stopped and bowed, “Greetings, Your Majesty. I’m a palace maid from the Lady of Fairness Gong’s palace.”

Xiao Yan came in a green cloak, his tall body standing up, and saw her lowered face. This palace servant again. He could not help but ask, “Why did you come from the Xunxie Pavilion?”

Zhao Wan exhaled lightly, “Noble Lady Gu ordered me to embroider a silk handkerchief in the Xunxie Pavilion today. Thus, I just now came out of the Xunxie Pavilion. I didn’t expect to bump into His Majesty.”

Xiao Yan heard this, and his face sank slightly. It was this A Wan again; it was her again. Gu Yi ordered Lady of Fairness Gong’s servant girl to embroider a handkerchief for her —

Is she jealous or intentional?

After repeatedly promoting this maid, Xiao Yan felt he could no longer use the word ‘jealous’ to speculate about Gu Yi. She became arrogant because of favor — Is she plotting the same thing as Lady of Fairness Gong, trying to use this maid to gain favor and power in the harem?

At the thought of this, Xiao Yan’s eyes fell on Zhao Wan’s face. He saw her eyelids fluttering, but the eyes were flickering. He laughed coldly in his heart. So, is it a coincidence that he met this palace maid at the hot spring pool that night? Could it be that Gu Yi and the Gong Clan thought he would be confused by this palace maid’s appearance?

Xiao Yan’s face became colder as he raised his feet and headed for the Xunxie Pavilion.

When Gu Yi heard the servant’s singing, she welcomed at the pavilion’s entrance, bowing and saying, “Greetings, Your Majesty!”

Xiao Yan’s gaze fell on the pair of white jade mandarin ducks and begonia hairpins she wore in her hair, and he said in a deep voice, “Rise.”

Gu Yi smiled and said, “There is warm incense inside, so let me take off the cloak for Your Majesty.”

However, she saw Xiao Yan looking at herself with a smile.

Gu Yi touched her face, “Is there something on my face?”

Xiao Yan unwrapped the black satin ribbon in front of his neck and smoothly handed the removed cloak to Eunuch Gao, who followed behind him like a shadow.

Gu Yi’s outstretched hands received nothing. Did something wrong happen to Xiao Yan?

Gu Yi retracted her hands and smiled dryly. “I ordered someone to prepare shortcakes. Would Your Majesty like to try them?”

Xiao Yan straightly lifted his robe, sat in front of the square table, and poured a cup of wine for himself.

It seemed something did happen —

Gu Yi looked back at Eunuch Gao with a questioning gaze, but Eunuch Gao gave her a ‘wishing you luck’ expression and lowered his eyes.

What did I do wrong? I clearly haven’t done anything yet —

Gu Yi smiled, slowly walking to the table and sitting down.

“Did I let you sit down?” Xiao Yan’s cold voice echoed in the Xunxie Pavilion, and the surrounding silent courtiers all had their breath stagnate.

Noble Lady Gu had angered His Majesty!

The back of Gu Yi’s neck went cold, and she immediately stood up, bowing, “I know I’m wrong, Your Majesty, forgive me!”

What exactly did I do wrong?
The hall was as quiet as a barren grave, and one could hear the needle drop.

Eunuch Gao winked, and the palace staff came out in a line and retreated silently. Tao Jia glanced at Gu Yi sadly before reluctantly exiting the room.

Gu Yi remained in a half-squatting position, her legs a little numb. Xiao Yan raised his eyes to see that she had only squatted briefly, but her upper body swayed.

It was because she kneeled less; thus, she did not know the hierarchy, did not cherish the emperor’s grace, and learned some inferior ways of abusing power in the harem.

Gu Yi boldly raised her head to look at Xiao Yan, “Your Majesty, my feet are numb!”

Spoilt and arrogant.

Xiao Yan said expressionlessly, “Get up.”

Gu Yi straightened up and touched her cheeks with her index finger bemusedly, “I’m stupid. I don’t know where I’ve made a mistake; please show me, Your Majesty. I’ll clean up my heart and soul and reflect on myself!”

Xiao Yan looked at the confusion in her eyes and looked at him pitifully, but he did not know how much of her words were true or false.

He said in a deep voice: “Why did you look for that palace maid for Lady of Fairness Gong? Do you want to learn Lady of Fairness Gong’s scheme for favor ……” He stared firmly at Gu Yi, “Who do you think I am?”

Gu Yi was shocked, not expecting that he had already met Zhao Wan. Sure enough, she has the female lead aura that can be found anywhere!

She didn’t mean for them to meet by chance tonight!

“I never had this intention!” Gu Yi’s tone was firm, “I knew that palace maid was from the Department of Clothing, and she was good at women’s skills, so I specially asked her to embroider a handkerchief ……”

Gu Yi saw that Xiao Yan’s face was still expressionless. She lowered her voice to say, “I embroidered a silk handkerchief for Your Majesty. I had embroidered it for two or three days, but the embroidered image –”

Xiao Yan: “What happened to that embroidered image?”

Gu Yi gritted her teeth, “That embroidered image …… is unpleasant to look at, so I want to find a maidservant with proper embroidery skills to make up for me ……”

Xiao Yan: “Where is the silk handkerchief you embroidered?”

Gu Yi took the silk handkerchief from her bosom and offered it with both hands. Xiao Yan took it and looked at the colorful butterflies dancing on that silk handkerchief, which were alive and well.

Is she lying to him?

He wanted to scold her but noticed a flower embroidered under the colorful butterflies.

Red flower — leaf–

Unbearable.

Xiao Yan’s face calmed a little. “I have never seen such an ugly embroidered image. Gu Yi, how did you enter the palace as a waiting girl in the first place?”

Gu Yi did not know how the original Gu Yi was selected, but things have come to this, so she didn’t care about her image. “I guess that I was selected by virtue of my looks.”

Xiao Yan: ……

The inexplicable anger suppressed in his chest dissipated a little, but it was still heavily pressed in his heart. The night wind lightly knocked on the window pane and clattered. The window opened a slit, and the cold wind poured in, adding to the chill.

Xiao Yan gazed at Gu Yi’s panicked face and said slowly, “You …… must not be proud of your favor.”

Gu Yi tried to prove her innocence, but she saw Xiao Yan drinking alone, and his ruthless voice came to her ears.

“Gong Zhenghai, Right Assistant Censorate, fourth grade, the new party’s leader. In the future, even if you’re lucky, I won’t let you overpower the Gong Clan …… ”

His dark brown glazed eyes reflected the candle flame in the wind. He said word by word: “Gu Yi, you are too unbridled …… What I dislike the most is that someone is scheming against me.”
