Chapter 11: Eleven
Chapter 11
Lucian's POV
I let the cool water cool my burning hands as I stood in the bathroom. I was happy that I had cured Lily, but I felt sad. If I have this much power, why did it not come when my parents were sick? Why didn't my hands do anything on them? Why did they have to go before I discovered this gift?
I couldn't help crying—I let it all out—it hurts real bad. Having this kind of power but your parents not enjoying it.
I stood up, I'm supposed to be happy I could help Lily not crying... What's in the past is gone forever. I turned off the tap and walked out of the bathroom.
I saw Lily seated on the bed, I walked to her and sat beside her. I folded my legs together. She turned to look at me, her green eyes looking alive.
*"Thank you,"* she whispered.
*"It's okay, I'm glad I could help,"* I said.
She moved into me, and I wrapped my arms around her.
*"But why were you crying in the bathroom?"* she asked.
How did she know?
*"It was nothing,"* I said.
She moved away from me and looked into my eyes.
*"That's a lie,"* she said.
*"Okay... I miss my parents,"* I admitted.
*"I'm sorry,"* she said.
*"It's just that—I feel bad not being able to use my powers on them.*
*"It was a year after their death that I first healed a living creature."*
*"It was my cousin's puppy."*
*"Maybe that was how it was meant to happen,"* Lily said.
*"But why now? I couldn't help them when they needed me the most."*
"Things remain a mystery, Lucian... we should thank God for everything"
'Everything happens for a purpose to fulfill a prophecy of our lives,' she said.
'Everything is going to be alright,' she whispered.
'You're coming to school tomorrow?' I asked.
'Wouldn't miss it,' she giggled.
'We're gonna have so much fun,' I said.
'Can't wait,' she said clapping her hands.
I pulled her to me and hugged her.
