Chapter 884: Fight to the Death
A daytime has passed, yet the battle for Kasin City still rages on. On the surface, the Mairente Family's army seems to be performing decently, having taken control of several areas in the city, but this is not enough in everyone's eyes.
To Rocky, this pace of control is somewhat slow, though not to the point of disappointment. Considering the Mairente Family's numbers and quality, achieving this is already quite good. Even Karina, who has never had much confidence in the family's strength, feels they are doing well.
However, in Cyril's view, the family's progress is indeed slow.
She had already stated that this battle must not only be won but must be won splendidly. Her original strategic plan was to have control over all areas of Kasin City within one day and to thoroughly take over the entire city within three days. Yet the current battle isn't going as smoothly as imagined, as one day has passed and the family's forces have only taken control of half the city, which is far from sufficient.
Of course, Cyril also understands the difficulties faced by the family army—insufficient troops, inadequate equipment—these all limit their combat efficiency. But these are not excuses because for the family, this is a real battle that must be won, and it is ultimately for Rocky. So despite the difficulties, the family forces must overcome them.
Under such circumstances, Cyril immediately issued an order for Bernardo to ensure that all ground forces were deployed and control all areas of the city before dawn.
Receiving such an order, Bernardo did not complain. He knew that at this moment, he was a soldier, and a soldier's duty is to obey orders, not to make excuses. So he immediately personally led the forces to attack, to support the four regions still embroiled in fierce battles and still not having deployed ground forces.
Under his leadership, the reinforcements quickly joined the fight, and with more warships arriving, the four embattled regions were not only fortified with additional warships, but the number of Void Magic Warriors also increased. Thus, under more intense bombardment, the tank armor specialized for ground warfare was finally deployed to the ground.
"Ground forces immediately take the high ground!"
"Void Magic Squad, cover!"
In the night, under the starlit sky, Kasin City was a blaze of gunfire, with continuous explosions lighting up the darkness like bonfires, illuminating the night sky. Amidst the firelight, the commanders of the Void Magic Corps kept directing squads to hunt down scattered demons, and the tank armors that had finally landed rolled over the ground and climbed onto the rooftops of ruined buildings, thereby taking the high ground and strengthening the defenses.
Thus, finally, all ground forces were deployed, and the battle became relatively easier. The firepower of the ground forces inflicted further damage on the demons, in addition to the ferocious bombardment from the warships, demons within Kasin City were being relentlessly slaughtered.
A night passed in the noisy roar of gunfire, with the battle lasting the entire night, but when dawn broke, there was no sign of stopping.
This was completely normal, as the number of demons entrenched in Kasin City was close to a hundred thousand. Even with the city divided into several areas, each area still housed nearly ten thousand demons. This ten thousand demons, let alone fighting, even standing still waiting to be killed, could not be easily eradicated, let alone the demons knew how to resist.
Compared to the Great Demons, compared to high-level demons, low-level demons are already considered the weakest existence, yet these creatures at the end of the food chain possess formidable combat power, becoming extremely fearsome once they reach a certain number.
A traditional tank armor had just reached the rooftop of a two-story ruin when a group of Black-eyed Demons appeared within its sight. The driver immediately opened fire, and the barrels on the shoulders of the armor flashed with fire, and the wall that the Black-eyed Demons had not yet crossed was instantly blasted into pieces, with the two demons close to the wall getting blown up on the spot, and three more demons following behind getting blown away, the scattered stones injuring several more.
It seemed that the effect of this shot was good, as it appeared to seriously wound more than a dozen demons. However, during this shot, those Black-eyed Demons not hit swiftly approached below the minimum range of the Magic Energy Cannon, nearing the two-story building.
Seeing this, the tank armor on the rooftop immediately used a Magic Energy Beam to shoot the nearest Black-eyed Demons, then from a height started firing Magic Energy Bullets. At the same time, a squad of Void Magic Warriors came to support, and the battleships in the sky noticed the combat here, with one ship slowly adjusting its body to target the area with its Magic Energy Cannon.
But as all this unfolded, four demons managed to dodge the tank armor's barrage and quickly climbed onto the rooftop, sticking to the tall body of the tank armor like patches, tearing at its armor with claws, and almost instantly ripping the armor's hard shell into shreds.
To get rid of these demons clinging onto it, the driver inside the armor tried everything. Under his control, the armor swung back and forth, but due to the small and fragile space on the rooftop, it was futile. In the end, the driver simply chose to accelerate, driving the armor straight off the rooftop.
The several-ton armor accelerated off the rooftop, and upon landing, it immediately exploded, with the flames engulfing the four demons as well as the armor and the driver inside.
Such scenes kept playing out throughout the night. While more demons were indeed slain after the ground forces were deployed, this did not mean that the battle became easier, rather it became more brutal. Because during the bombardment, demons could only scatter and flee, but once the ground forces appeared, the demons had targets to attack. As the battle continued throughout the day, it became even more brutal than the night before, with more demons being killed of course.
And these brutal scenes were witnessed by everyone, prompting different thoughts among them.
Cyril, Bernardo, and others felt heartbroken, for each fallen soldier was one of their family's own. Yet, they do not regret nor complain, as this battle, in truth, was not fought for Rocky; they were fighting for themselves, to prove that they have the worth to live.
Similarly, these scenes were seen by Rocky, making him reminisce about the past, the times when Thunderhawk City was still weak. He too had participated in such battles, in Backhill Village, on the Traceless Battlefield, the Guard Corps had experienced countless deadly battles, which forged the Thunderhawk City of today. Thus, when he saw the Mairente Family's forces fighting such gritty battles, he not only felt nostalgic but also satisfied; this was the team he needed.
