Living With My Demon Stepsister

Chapter 19: Rival Blood

I was halfway through pulling on a shirt when everything just… stopped.

Literally.

My body froze — not from fear, not metaphorically — I couldn't move. Couldn't blink. Couldn't even breathe on my own. Something unseen had taken control, locking me in place like I was a doll on display.

And then I heard her.

Soft footsteps. Slow, intentional. A little click of heels with each step. I couldn't turn my head to see her, but I felt her. Her presence was different from Lila's — colder, crueler. There was no teasing warmth in the energy this one gave off.

She came into view, pacing around me, eyes glinting like sharpened glass. Her long white hair spilled down her back, slightly curled at the ends, swaying with her motion. She wore a sleek black dress that clung to every inch of her body — no wings, no horns, but she didn't need any of that. She radiated danger.

"Hmm…" she purred, her voice velvety and mocking as she circled me. "So this is the human Lila's been defiling her throne over."

My heart was hammering in my chest. I couldn't so much as flinch.

"I mean, look at you…" she leaned in, fingers ghosting along my jawline, her breath cool against my cheek. "No power. No bloodline. No legacy. Just… meat. A toy." She giggled, a low, wicked sound. "I really don't get it."

And then, from downstairs — footsteps.

Lila's voice, casual at first. "—I swear if you ate the last muffin again, I'll—"

She stopped.

Dead silence.

And then— woosh.

One blink. That's all it took. She was suddenly there, right between me and the girl, her body blocking me like a shield. Her hair whipped like flames, and her eyes — those beautiful eyes — were molten with fury.

"...What the hell are you doing here, Violet?"

Violet.

So that was her name.

Violet smiled lazily, still oozing smugness. "Oh, don't be so cold, cousin. I was just admiring your… taste." Her eyes flicked to me again, slow and predatory. "I mean, really, Lila? This is your obsession?"

"Say another word," Lila's voice dropped an octave, dark and threatening, "and I'll rip your tongue out."

Violet's smile widened. "Aw. So protective. I almost thought you were playing house for fun. But no… the Queen of Hell really is in love with a human. A pathetic little—"

"One more word," Lila snapped, her hand twitching at her side, fingers glowing faintly. "And I'll break the truce."

That made Violet pause. Her smugness didn't fade, but her eyes sharpened. "You'd risk war over him?"

Lila didn't even blink. "Gladly."

A heavy beat of silence passed.

Then Violet tilted her head, her voice sugary sweet. "I'll leave. For now."

She stepped back with grace, like she hadn't just threatened to kill me with her presence. "But I'll be back, cousin. Sooner than you think. After all…" She cast one final look at me, her gaze practically undressing me. "I want to see what all the fuss is about."

With a smirk and the faint crackle of power, she vanished — no fire, no smoke. Just gone.

The spell holding me broke, and I stumbled backward, gasping like I'd just surfaced from drowning.

"What the fuck was that?!"

Lila turned to me slowly, the fire in her eyes still simmering, but her face softened the moment she saw how shaken I was. "My cousin," she said flatly. "Violet. She's… complicated."

"She froze me."

> "Mmhm."

"She was going to kill me."

"Probably not today," Lila muttered, waving her hand and letting the tension fade from the room. "But next time, she might."

I stared at her. "You're seriously just okay with that?!"

"No," she said. "But I'm handling it."

"She called you Queen. Queen of Hell. I kept telling myself maybe you were just… high-ranked or something. Joking around with the title. But that didn't sound like a joke."

Lila shrugged with a devilish grin. "I am."

"Is there anyone else I should be worried about? Ex-boyfriends? Former generals? Satan himself?"

Lila leaned in, brushing her lips just barely against mine. "Why? Jealous?"

My throat went dry. "No. Terrified."

She giggled. "Good. Means you're finally paying attention."

Her hand slid over my chest, tracing softly downward — but she didn't touch anything… important. Just a lingering caress that left me burning.

"She wants to see what the fuss is about…" I echoed.

"She'll never touch you," Lila whispered, dead serious now. "You're mine, Eli."

"Are you sure?" I swallowed. "Because she looked like she wanted to rip my soul out through my—"

She grabbed my chin and kissed me.

Deep. Possessive. Fiery.

By the time she pulled away, my knees were weak.

"She can want. She'll never have." Lila's voice was velvet and venom. "And if you ever say someone else's name in your sleep, I'll make sure you wake up in chains."

She was smiling. But her eyes? Yandere fire.

And I knew, without a doubt — hell wasn't the most dangerous place in the universe.

She was.
