Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 421: Mrs. Hanover, The Exploding Safe House

Austrian Capital, Vienna.

As the world-renowned capital of music, Vienna has always been famous as the center of art and splendid Baroque architecture. It is known as one of the cities with the highest quality of life in the world, housing the famous Golden Hall.

In the evening, the nearly fifty-year-old Isabella Hanover, with a proud demeanor, dressed in a brand-new, high-end gown, left after briefly socializing with people in the hall, escorted by her bodyguard, back to her car.

After she settled into the back seat of the Bentley Continental, the car started moving forward as usual. Isabella Hanover, while touching up her makeup, suddenly frowned, noticing the car was going in the wrong direction.

Slowly closing her makeup case, she looked up toward the driver and calmly asked:

"Who are you? Where is my driver?"

"Good evening, Mrs. Hanover, your driver is in the trunk of the car. He is alright, just passed out."

The man driving was Luo An, explaining in a calm tone as he drove slowly towards a villa in the suburban area of Vienna:

"There was some urgency, please forgive my direct approach this time."

Previously, Luo An had Mona look into Isabella Hanover's background and found she was born into a noble family in Europe and married to a traditional European aristocrat, who died of cancer a few years ago.

Luo An had no particular reverence for these so-called nobles and was somewhat detached, but meeting them wasn't easy. Caroline had mentioned that she could try to reach out to Isabella Hanover, but her private secretary had scheduled the meeting one month later.

Since the formal channel was ineffective, Luo An didn't bother with pleasantries and had Mona verify Isabella Hanover's itinerary for the upcoming days. Then, he waited in the parking area outside Vienna's Golden Hall in the evening, knocked out the driver, and stuffed him into the trunk.

"This is one of my estates."

Mrs. Hanover showed no sign of worry or fear. Seeing the familiar scenery outside the window, she nonchalantly pressed a button on her makeup product, and scrutinized Luo An driving, asking:

"What do you want with me tonight?"

"Our target is not you, Mrs. Hanover."

Luo An drove the car into the villa area, followed closely by a Beetle which parked at the guesthouse entrance. Luo An stepped out, opened the rear car door, offering his hand to her, explaining:

"Mr. Gai Leite has disappeared. We were hoping to get some clues related to him from you."

Gai Leite, the name Javari Evans used as a disguise in Europe.

"Gai Leite has disappeared?"

Placing her hand in Luo An's, Mrs. Hanover slowly stepped out of the back seat of the car, glanced at the Beetle behind — from which two young women alighted.

One woman carrying a computer she hadn't seen before, the other looking somewhat familiar. Mrs. Hanover furrowed her brow, thinking for a few seconds, then said:

"I think I've seen you somewhere."

The woman who seemed familiar to Mrs. Hanover was Caroline. Today, only Luo An and Mona wore some disguise makeup, Caroline did not. Hearing Mrs. Hanover's words, Caroline responded with a soft smile, mentioning the name of a charity dinner where they had met before.

"OK."

Mrs. Hanover nodded, turned, and walked into the villa's hallway, commenting as she walked:

"I haven't been in touch with Gai Leite for a long while, thought he, like some men, got bored and went for another woman. I didn't expect he actually disappeared... truly a message that complicates a woman's feelings."

Luo An followed her inside the guesthouse, casually took two wine glasses, poured some wine, handed one to Mrs. Hanover, took a sip from his own, then conveyed his suspicion that Mr. Gai Leite might have left some clues at Isabella Hanover's place and wished to search around.

According to Mona's investigation, Javari Evans often visited this villa, so it was very possible that he had hidden something here.

"OK, feel free."

Mrs. Hanover sat on the sofa, took the wine glass, nodded, and mentioned some places Javari often visited. Luo An gave a glance to Mona beside him, handed over a computer Javari had touched to Mona, then headed upstairs to search again.

Seeing Mona focused on the computer, Mrs. Hanover turned her attention to Caroline who was idly standing, and with a smile queried:

"What is your relationship with Gai Leite?"

"I am his adopted daughter, and these two were private detectives hired by me with a hefty sum."

As instructed by Luo An before the operation, Caroline disclosed her identity, both to earn Isabella Hanover's trust and to cover for Luo An and Mona.

"Adopted daughter?"

Upon hearing this, Mrs. Hanover frowned slightly and scrutinized Caroline, then snorted lightly and said:

"It seems Gai Leite has told me many lies."

"Men always speak this way."

Caroline answered with a smile, and the two of them slowly began to converse. Meanwhile, Luo An, in a study on the second floor of the villa, found several books placed in a special manner.

Upon opening the books, Luo An discovered some old landscape photos inside with certain names marked; arranging and piecing together these names, he uncovered several sets of coordinates.

After searching for a moment and finding nothing else of use, Luo An returned to the first floor and handed these coordinates to Mona for investigation.

Looking up, Luo An noticed Caroline and Mrs. Hanover had moved to chat by the window. He grabbed a glass of wine and joined them, saying suddenly:

"Mrs. Hanover, it's too cold by the window, let's move back to the sofa.

Besides, I had my partners block that car and the private positioning signal you sent, so the people you're waiting for won't be coming here anytime soon. There's no need to keep watching."

Caught off guard by his remarks, Caroline turned to look at Mrs. Hanover, whose face shifted in color, her smile quickly fading. She glared at Luo An, shoved her wine glass into Caroline's hands, and returned to her seat on the sofa.

Luo An chuckled without care, his actions were meant to buy time, seeking clues related to Javari Evans. Time was of the essence, and he had no interest in wasting it by fighting Mrs. Hanover's subordinates.

Mrs. Hanover now sat on the sofa without speaking, quietly observing Caroline, who appeared stiff under her gaze and slowly forced a strained smile.

Seeing this, Luo An poured Mrs. Hanover another glass of wine and blocked her line of sight with his body.

Mrs. Hanover took the glass, squinted at Luo An for a few seconds, and said softly:

"You don't look like a private detective."

"That means my disguise is very successful."

Luo An clinked glasses with Mrs. Hanover, laughing:

"If one could tell at first glance that I'm a private detective, how could I survive in this business?"

"That makes sense."

Mrs. Hanover noncommittally nodded her head. At that moment, Mona suddenly raised her hand:

"Boss, I've found something."

Luo An and Caroline hurried over, with Mrs. Hanover also joining them, similarly curious about what Javari might have hidden in her villa.

"This is the coordinates of a safe house, located on the other side of Vienna."

Mona cut straight to the chase, placing a photo of a house on the computer screen.

But before Luo An could speak, Mona put another photo of ruins on the screen and continued solemnly:

"However, this safe house was destroyed eleven days ago, the Vienna police report states that the house was demolished by explosive charges."

"Eleven days ago?"

Luo An looked at Caroline, whose brow furrowed:

"That's when I started losing contact with my father."
