Chapter 353: Interrogation Principles, Discoveries in the Interrogation Room
Special Investigation Team, interrogation room.
Although Farhad has been involved in gambling, regards ordinary people as nothing, killed many civilians, and forced women, he believes he is a good person and has always seen his father as a role model in life.
So when he heard Luo An talk about his father, Farhad's eyes flashed with cold light, and he wished he could kill Luo An on the spot.
"Such sharp eyes.
Unfortunately, looks can't kill, so John is still very much alive."
Luo An didn't care about the gaze of a man destined for prison, he moved away from the interrogation table and sat back in his chair, crossing his legs and asked directly:
"Farhad, I'm tired of the nonsense, let's make a deal.
If you tell me who kidnapped the little girl Kara, and where they are now, I will speak of your cooperation during the interrogation when we go to court."
Thinking that Luo An was just talking big without substance, Farhad sneered and said:
"I want to see a lawyer. Before my lawyer comes, I won't answer any of your questions."
"Do you think a lawyer can clear your name?"
Luo An chuckled and said:
"You've kidnapped and extorted John with a gang of armed thugs, committed violent assault, illegal possession of firearms, and numerous other felonies, all perfectly associated with you.
You'll likely earn the title of a terrorist. In such a case, what can a lawyer do for you? Being able to enter Pelican Bay Prison is already a mercy from the judge."
Pelican Bay Prison, California's "tomb of the living dead."
To prevent prisoners from forming gangs, Pelican Bay Prison implements complete solitary confinement, with each person confined alone in a room only 2 square meters big, with a small door, no windows.
Prisoners are confined for more than 22 hours a day, aside from the guards delivering meals, they barely see anyone else.
After hearing Luo An's words, Farhad pondered for a few seconds, then suddenly slammed his bandaged right hand fiercely onto the interrogation table.
Bang!
A muffled sound, the previously gunshot-wounded right hand split open once again, blood quickly soaking the bandage.
Farhad's right arm trembled uncontrollably in pain, then he raised his head to look at Luo An and said coldly:
"Mr. FBI, I am injured.
According to federal law, I have the right to request a pause in the interrogation and ask for medical treatment."
Reesi was startled by Farhad's action, and her face immediately turned exceptionally ugly; she subconsciously turned to look at Luo An, only to find him still sitting relaxedly with his legs crossed, his smile unchanged.
Feeling Reesi's gaze, Luo An gave her a reassuring look, then slowly stood up and said indifferently:
"Farhad, have you ever thought about why I didn't have your injured right hand handcuffed?"
Farhad felt his brow twitch, suddenly getting a bad premonition.
Sure enough, Luo An continued:
"Even if you have to injure yourself again to stop the interrogation.
This situation only implies two things..."
Luo An spoke at a relaxed pace, Reesi looked up puzzled, waiting for the continuation, Farhad also endured the pain, staring at Luo An waiting for him to mention those two issues.
Then… Luo An chuckled, changing the subject:
"Reesi, pause the interrogation, call a doctor for Farhad, don't let others say we disregard human rights."
After speaking, Luo An smiled slightly at Farhad, opened the interrogation room door, and walked out unhurriedly.
"..."x2
Seeing the closed interrogation room door, Reesi's mouth twitched, but she quickly got up to carry out Luo An's orders.
Farhad's face turned dark in an instant, the pain in his hand was trivial, but what exactly had Luo An guessed? He hated this feeling of an unfinished conversation!
Thinking of Luo An's previous words, and the final look he gave him, Farhad's mind was filled with confusion and uncertainty, making him restless.
In the hallway, Luo An left the interrogation room where Farhad was and didn't return to the office area; instead, he directly gestured for Michelle to come over and they entered the interrogation room where Maxwell, the Black Headscarf Man, was held.
A few minutes later, after the doctor had simply treated Farhad's wounds, Reesi sent the doctor away and just returned to the office area when she saw Luo An and Michelle coming out of Maxwell's interrogation room.
"How did it go?"
Reesi hurried over and asked:
"Did you get any useful clues?"
"No clues, Maxwell didn't say a word."
Michelle handed the interrogation records to Reesi; it was all Luo An's words with ellipses under Maxwell's name.
"Alright."
Reesi tossed the useless interrogation records aside and continued to ask a question that had been circling in her mind for a long time:
"Luo An, what did you mean by what you said to Farhad?"
"Two guesses, although Maxwell didn't respond, his expressions helped me confirm these two guesses were right."
Luo An sat down on a chair, introduced four major principles for interrogation, called the "Mouse Principle".
An acronym "Mouse", which stands for "MICE", represents the four most useful breakthroughs: Money, Ideology, Coerce, and Ego.
For those with strong beliefs, use I and E, for those without, use M and C.
While interrogating Farhad and Maxwell, Luo An found that both of their "beliefs" were firm.
Naturally, given these two men's life experiences, their beliefs could not possibly be any ideology or doctrine; the only possibility was that someone had promised them "protection in case of failure."
"During the interrogations of Farhad and Maxwell, I mentioned John."
Facing the puzzled looks from Mona, Reesi, and Michelle, Luo An explained:
"But the expressions on their faces were only of frustration from failure and anger at us, not disappointment from being unable to continue actions against John.
Also, when I talked about court and prison, their expressions didn't change either, it seemed they don't care..."
Hearing this, Mona and Reesi suddenly realized:
"You mean to say, Farhad and Maxwell actually have a backup plan!
And the executor of this backup plan is the behind-the-scenes mastermind who provided them with weapons and equipment! Also the person who kidnapped Kara!"
"Exactly."
"But how is this behind-the-scenes mastermind going to act?"
Michelle scratched her head, raising two of her own questions:
"And how can Farhad and Maxwell be sure that this behind-the-scenes mastermind isn't deceiving them?"
"The odds of a jailbreak are low; those prisons are not to be underestimated.
However, during the transport of prisoners, there are plenty of opportunities to act."
Luo An took a sip from his teacup, pondered for a few seconds, and continued:
"As for the second question, that is our next investigative target: who exactly is this behind-the-scenes mastermind? What is his relationship with these two guys?
Reesi, contact Federal Customs and Border Protection and the Department of Homeland Security, we must clarify how this large group of people entered the country.
Mona, Michelle, you guys carefully investigate this group's spending within the country, places of residence, and other information. We must uncover who this behind-the-scenes mastermind actually is."
"OK!"
"No problem!"
Seeing the three women getting busy, Luo An put down his teacup and nodded in satisfaction:
This way, not only can the case be investigated, but it also connects with other federal law enforcement agencies, killing two birds with one stone.
Of course, as the three are working, Luo An couldn't just sit idly and watch; he opened his computer and discovered a new folder on the desktop, puzzled, he asked:
"Mona, what is this?"
