Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 301: Successful Operation, Harvest, Michelle Hugo

The red and blue lights on top of the armored vehicle flickered, casting their glow on everyone's faces outside the abandoned factory.

"Hunter Anderson."

Hearing Potante Byrne's question, the SWAT team leader beside him replied:

"He used to be with the Massive Destruction Weapons Bureau."

The Massive Destruction Weapons Bureau, a department of the Homeland Security Department, specializes in the investigation, collection, and handling of weapons of mass destruction, including chemical, biological, radioactive, nuclear, and explosive devices.

"No wonder he knew about the dangers of the substances in the factory and how to handle them."

Potante Byrne came to a realization, and at that moment, from within the pitch-black factory, two people emerged supporting each other; one was handsome and smiling, the other wearing a standard SWAT helmet, mouth wide open in a grin.

Seeing Luo An and Hunter's figures, Potante Byrne and the SWAT team leader both let out a long sigh of relief, and the rest of the team members also cheered excitedly.

"Great job!"

"Amazing!"

"Thank God..."

Luo An waved to the crowd and turned to Hunter, having just asked for his name:

"Remember to call me when you have time, let's go out for a drink."

"OK, definitely!"

Hunter grinned, and Luo An patted his shoulder without saying much, starting to continue directing the scene; the primary task was now to get the hazardous materials team to deal with the unfinished substances in the basement.

The operation was a great success, Reesi and Mona led SWAT team members to capture all the leaders of the William Masi Gang in one fell swoop, and the main target Ryan and his mother were taken back to the Special Investigation Team.

Luo An's side also went smoothly; the hazardous materials team entered the basement, collectively gasped, then gave Luo An and Henry thumbs up.

Had they not shut off the valve in time, the hazardous material team's captain said that in less than two minutes, the entire street could have been blown sky-high.

Moreover, there was a large amount of powdered fentanyl in the basement, which, had there been an explosion, would certainly have dispersed, and then everyone near this factory area would have been in grave danger.

Hearing this, everyone at the scene cast grateful and admiring glances at Luo An and Henry.

At eight o'clock in the morning, a bunch of people appeared in the office area of the Special Investigation Team; these were agents temporarily assigned to Luo An by Potante Byrne from other investigation teams to help the Special Investigation Team deal with the case.

Reesi and Mona were responsible for directing and assisting, while Luo An led an agent into the interrogation room to interrogate the undercover Ryan.

Faced with evidence and testimony, Ryan didn't keep silent for long before he confessed everything, and, as Luo An had guessed earlier, his ultimate goal was indeed to escape the Organized Crime Investigation Division's control and leave the Federation with his mother.

The general content of the plan was also similar to what Luo An had deduced earlier, with a few differences: Ryan's mother was not pretending to be infatuated with Victor, but had genuinely developed feelings for him, and Ryan was aware of this.

"Hmm..."

This storyline of his friend's mother made Luo An scratch his head; he could only say that the Federation's social atmosphere was too liberal, and such things were not seen as a big deal in their eyes.

Thump! Thump! Thump!

The door to the interrogation room was knocked on; the visitor was Reesi, so Luo An got up and stepped outside.

"What's up?"

"We've finished tallying up last night's operation haul."

Reesi handed a folder to Luo An, her expression extremely excited, yet she tried to suppress her enthusiasm and spoke in a low voice:

"In this operation, we seized a total of 850 pounds of chemical agents, nearly 1 ton of cocaine, 93 pounds of methamphetamine, 50 pounds of marijuana, 30 pounds of fentanyl, 20 pounds of carfentanil, and 4.4 million US dollars in cash.

According to the investigation, approximately 35 million dollars worth of substances flow into the streets of Los Angeles each month.

Last night's haul approximately accounted for a quarter!"

"Wow, that's a huge catch."

Luo An raised his eyebrow, looked around to make sure no one was nearby, then bent down and whispered into Reesi's ear:

"I remember the FBI regulations stipulate that the action team in such cases is entitled to a certain percentage of the reward, right?"

"That's correct, that's correct."

Reesi's eyes shone as she nodded repeatedly. After all, this type of case was different from others, carrying a much higher degree of danger, so the FBI superiors always set aside a certain percentage of the financial gains to reward the operatives after the fact.

Reesi leaned into Luo An's ear and whispered back:

"About 14.5 percent."

"I'll leave these gains to you."

Upon hearing this, Luo An's eyes also lit up, and he handed the folder back to Reesi with a stern voice:

"Make sure to keep them safe!"

"No problem! Leave it to me!"

Thinking of the bonus she was going to receive this time, Reesi's eyes sparkled with golden light, and without any hesitation, she unreservedly agreed and then turned to leave the area.

She planned to grab a chair and sit by the contraband now, and before the higher-ups had finished receiving them, she wouldn't budge an inch no matter who commanded her!

The superiors: "..."

The case this time involved numerous people, and the content was chaotic, so even though Potante Byrne sent over a dozen agents to assist the three-person team led by Luo An, they still toiled away for a full week.

This was already considering Luo An's recently notable reputation, as other law enforcement departments were more cooperative, simplifying some procedural processes.

If they went by the efficiency of the LAPD, it would take even more time, at least over a month.

In that week, Luo An, as usual, didn't write complex case reports, but he organized a lot of documents that gave him a major headache.

No choice, Luo An's status was different now. As a chief member of the Special Investigation Team, he had to hold onto anything related to money and personnel; he couldn't entrust it to anyone else.

However, Luo An was smart and hardworking. Although he initially processed the documents at a slower pace than a snail, infuriating the team leader, Potante Byrne, to the point of nearly taking on the task himself,

helped by the instruction from a female agent named Michelle, Luo An quickly improved. In just three days, he had almost entirely grasped the majority of the documents' content and usage, leaving the team leader Potante Byrne in utter amazement.

This Michelle Hugo had joined the Special Investigation Team on the second day after the operation ended as the agent who primarily liaised with other law enforcement departments.

She was the FBI Los Angeles Branch chief who put in some effort and specially found her for the Special Investigation Team.

Since arriving in Los Angeles, Luo An had dealt with two cases, a bank robbery and this juvenile death case.

The former provided the FBI Los Angeles Branch chief with a sum of money, while the huge gains from the latter case allowed the chief to attract substantial attention from the Los Angeles media. The chief now looked at Luo An with even more tenderness than he did at the team leader.

In return for Luo An's favor, the chief specifically found the talented Michelle Hugo for his Special Investigation Team.

Michelle Hugo, 29 years old with short golden hair, average build and appearance, and average height, her combat and shooting skills were similar to Mona's.

But Michelle had one particularly strong ability:

Not only could she undertake the task of liaising with other law enforcement departments, she was also proficient in most types of documents from various federal law enforcement agencies. She could also write these documents very quickly, surpassing the combined capabilities of Reesi and Mona.

On her very first day with the Special Investigation Team, Michelle finished writing all the backlogged documents, properly classified them, and, in accordance with FBI procedures, handed them over perfectly to the other departments, leaving Luo An, Mona, and Reesi astonished.

"Just a minor skill."

Michelle picked up her coffee, took a sip, and asked with a smile:

"Is there any other work that needs to be done?"
