Chapter 296: Three Pieces of Astonishing News for Luo An
Seeing Luo An and Mona display their golden FBI badges, Nasser immediately welcomed them into the living room, perked up, and gestured for them to sit down, even intending to pour water for them.
"No need for that trouble, thank you."
Luo An immediately stopped Nasser's action:
"We are very sorry about Anthony's situation, please accept our condolences."
Seeing Nasser's face straining to hold back grief, Luo An sighed inwardly.
In the photos Mona had accessed earlier, Nasser looked energetic, and his hair was all brown.
But now Joseph's head had many white hairs, which were clearly undeniable.
"We never expected such a thing to happen to us..."
Hearing Luo An's words, Anthony's mother immediately started crying softly, expressing her deep sorrow and speaking of Anthony's usual behavior.
Luo An and Mona listened quietly, and sharply noticed that Anthony's mother was unaware of Anthony eating flour and of Anthony's lascivious social relationships at school.
The two exchanged glances; seeing that Anthony's mother was not in a mental state suitable for questioning, Luo An then turned his gaze to Nasser:
"Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?"
"No problem."
Nasser did not refuse Luo An's request, concerning his son.
Although somewhat puzzled by the request for a private chat, seeing his wife's state, Nasser led Luo An into his study.
The two sat down, and Nasser poured two cups of tea for Luo An and himself.
"Thank you."
After drinking a sip of tea and seeming a bit better, Luo An gave no more small talk, and directly handed over the photos he had brought:
"Please identify these people, see if there are any you are familiar with, or that you have met and talked with."
If the real mastermind behind this was the high level of the William Mas Gang, they would surely have had someone secretly investigate Nasser, or have their underlings surreptitiously contact him.
The photos Mona printed are of the main leaders of the William Mas Gang, as well as their close associates and notable members.
If Nasser could identify anyone who had contacted him or secretly investigated him and whom he had seen, then Nasser could serve as a witness, and Luo An could start operations to arrest the gang members tomorrow.
Of course, to avoid Nasser rashly identifying someone out of a desperate desire for revenge for his son, Luo An decided to let him look at the photos first and then explain the case situation.
Moreover, among these photos, there are also quite a few random passerby photos that Mona had found.
Taking the photos from Luo An, Nasser looked skeptical but still carefully started flipping through them.
As time passed by second by second, eventually Nasser pointed to a woman in the photos and said:
"Deputy Group Leader Greenwood, I've seen this person."
Luo An was intrigued, took the photo, and asked:
"Mr. Nasser, are you sure?"
"One hundred percent sure."
Nasser affirmatively nodded, stating he had worked at the Federal Transportation Security Administration for over a decade, every day dealing with hundreds of airline passengers.
Though he couldn't claim to have an eidetic memory for Western faces, he could generally recall anyone he had seen.
"…OK."
Nasser's words did not surprise Luo An, as he had anticipated this.
But the photo Nasser identified made Luo An's brow twitch.
Because the woman he identified was not some gang leader's mistress from the William Mas Gang, but the middle-aged woman who was kissing "Wild Dog" Victor last night.
Luo An's brow twitched as he took back the photo, asking:
"When did you become acquainted with her?"
"It was after one of my subordinates, a child, was led astray and then killed."
Nasser explained that he was promoted to a minor supervisor, and a young man was lured by money, started assisting solo dealers by smuggling for them, and eventually was killed by the solo dealers.
Luo An asked for the young man's name to confirm that the case described by Nasser was the same one Mona had investigated earlier.
After pondering for a few seconds, Luo An continued to ask:
"Where did you meet this woman?"
"A bar I often go to after work."
Nasser said that shortly after the case occurred, he went to that bar to drink and chat after work, and saw her next to his car when he was going home.
"The woman was beautiful, but not a good person, she said she wanted to talk business with me, that I could make thirty thousand US Dollars a month."
Nasser sneered and said:
"I have been working at the Federal Transportation Security Administration for so many years, any business that can make a lot of money means one thing:
It means the other party wants to use our authority to do things against federal law, so I refused her without hesitation."
As he talked, Nasser's face suddenly turned ugly, and he asked:
"Deputy Group Leader Greenwood, wasn't this case caused by an accidental drug overdose?"
"Sorry, Mr. Nasser, according to a detailed investigation of this case, we found that it is not the drug overdose case you mentioned but there is a behind-the-scenes mastermind targeting you."
Luo An briefly discussed "Wild Dog" Victor, his prison mate Ryan, the murder of Nasser's subordinate, and the situation with the William Mas Gang.
He didn't elaborate on the specific details, but the entire story's chain was enough to explain the approximate situation behind it.
Sitting in the chair and listening to Luo An describe the process, Nasser was first shocked by Anthony and the other seven people's relationships, then puzzled, followed by astonishment, and finally, his eyes ignited with raging fury.
Bang!
"Fu-k!*#%¥*..."
After Luo An finished, Nasser fiercely pounded the desk in front of him, then his face flushed red as he burst into curses.
A moment later, Nasser looked at Luo An with a pleading face:
"Deputy Group Leader Greenwood, I heard about your performance in the bank robbery case.
I beg you, you must catch the person who framed my son!"
But your son actually caused the deaths of the other seven teenagers as well.
Luo An licked his lips and didn't say this, let the parents handle the aftermath themselves.
Leaving Nasser's house, Luo An drove the SUV back to the FBI Los Angeles Branch building, with Mona in the passenger seat, beginning the investigation of that middle-aged woman's identity.
The SUV hadn't gone far when Luo An's phone suddenly rang, pressing the answer button, the other side was Reesi.
"How is it going, did you catch the taxi driver?"
"We caught him, but now a little problem has emerged."
Reesi on the phone seemed speechless, glanced at a few agents in front of her, and said in a low voice:
"A few agents from the organized crime investigation department of the FBI Los Angeles Branch said that this driver is their undercover."
"?"
Luo An gaped, just about to say something, Reesi handed her phone to a tall agent:
"Hello, Deputy Group Leader Greenwood, I am Deputy Group Leader Fres from the organized crime investigation department."
"Hello."
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Deputy Group Leader Fres revealed new information:
"The Ryan you are investigating is also our undercover."
"??"
Luo An's eyes twitched, before he could speak, Mona in the passenger seat suddenly tapped his arm with a strange expression.
Turning his head toward the computer, Luo An was shocked to discover that the middle-aged white woman who contacted Nasser and kissed Victor last night, was actually Ryan's mother!
"..."
Luo An fell completely silent.
After a long silence, Luo An said over the phone:
"Give me five minutes, I'll be at the headquarters immediately."
Not waiting for a response on the phone, Luo An hung up, then floored the gas pedal, and the SUV shot forward like an arrow off the string.
