The moment Ayr appeared, John, Silver Axe, and Ochoku immediately locked onto him, eyes brimming with murderous intent. Though they'd long hungered to kill him amid the chaos at the Valley of the Gods, they'd always held back—Charlotte Linlin, Golden Lion, Kaido, and Whitebeard had all been nearby.
Now, with some of Ayr's stamina and Haki recovered, killing him would be as impossible as scaling the heavens barehanded. Ayr sensed the hostility, but met their gazes with unwavering calm. After several tense seconds, the three men finally looked away; no matter their hatred, they couldn't deny the futility of a direct strike against him now.
Golden Lion, noticing Whitebeard still standing tall, burst into laughter. "Jiehahahaha! Edward, you're still alive? Thought the Valley swallowed you whole."
Whitebeard chuckled, voice rumbling. "Shiki, you're still kicking too? As if a place like this could bring me down."
"I'm going to conquer the whole sea and become King of the World! There's no way I'm dying here!" Golden Lion declared, lighting a cigar with a grin steeped in madness. With Rocks dead, he no longer bothered to restrain himself—speaking his ambitions aloud, acting on impulse, answering to no one.
"Mamamama… Shiki, the one who'll rule the sea is me!" Charlotte Linlin's eerie laugh echoed around them.
"You? Don't make me laugh," Golden Lion scoffed, smoke curling around his sneer.
"Then let's see who lasts longer," Linlin replied coolly, eyes narrowing.
"But speaking of which… where the hell did Garp and the others go?" Ayr's gaze swept the horizon, puzzled. The battlefield held only remnants of the Rocks Pirates; the Marines had vanished.
"They've retreated," Linlin replied, smirking. She'd been clashing with Garp earlier, and though their strength had been evenly matched, Garp was no fool—he understood that bringing her down would require both time and the blood of many elite Marines. With the Valley on the brink of collapse, the Navy had no choice but to fall back.
"They really pulled out, huh," Ayr muttered, rubbing his chin. Given that only Garp, Sengoku, Zephyr, and Tsuru were true Marine powerhouses in the Valley, if Golden Lion and the others had banded together to take just one of them out, they might've succeeded. But instead, they'd obsessed over Uranus, chasing the mythical weapon with no interest in cooperating to crush the Navy completely.
"Since Roger's crew and the Marines are gone, maybe it's time we got out too," Kaido growled, voice low. The battle had dragged on too long, and both sides had achieved their aims. With the Valley moments from sinking, there was no value in staying behind.
"If you want to leave, leave," Golden Lion hovered mid-air, casting a casual glance at the rest.
"You're still chasing Uranus, aren't you?" John snorted, easily reading his intent.
"Give it up," Silver Axe muttered, shaking his head. "We've flipped every stone on this cursed island. Uranus isn't here."
That was the truth. Despite their obsession, despite the desperation that brought them here, no one had found even a whisper of the Ancient Weapon. Still, Golden Lion refused to surrender. The Poneglyph had pointed directly to this island; it had to be here. The others, he believed, simply lacked the resolve to dig deep enough.
But Linlin's voice cut through, cold and biting. "If Uranus were truly here, the Marines would've used it against us already." She too longed for the weapon, but wasn't foolish enough to ignore the implications—if the Navy possessed such power, they wouldn't have hesitated to wield it.
"Think what you want. Leave if you're leaving." Golden Lion dismissed them with a flick of the wrist, clearly intending to scour the ruins once they were gone.
"Mamamama… I'm not going anywhere until the Valley sinks to the bottom of the sea," Linlin cackled. Even if the odds were slim, even if she knew the truth deep down, she wasn't about to walk away from the smallest chance to seize the weapon that could bring the world to its knees.
"You two think we'll just leave and let you search alone?" John sneered, seeing through them. "Then I'm staying."
Silver Axe and Ochoku remained silent, but their stances made it clear—they weren't leaving either.
Then Ayr's voice cut in, tone calm but sharp. "Hold on… aren't we forgetting a pirate crew?"
Everyone turned toward him, eyes narrowing.
"I remember Marine intel saying it wasn't just Roger's crew expected to appear… the Wald Pirates were supposed to show up too."
Ayr's voice dropped, weight settling into every word. Before the chaos erupted, Deros—the CPO Commander—had made it clear that two other pirate crews beyond the Rocks Pirates were set to emerge. Roger's had appeared, but the Wald Pirates?
Nowhere in sight.
Silence swept through the group like a gust of wind through ash. One by one, their expressions darkened. Yes—there was still one missing piece to this blood-drenched puzzle.
Then—
FWOOOOOM!
The skies darkened as a tremendous sound split the heavens. Every pirate present instinctively looked upward.
A massive shadow loomed above, blotting out the sun.
"What the hell… a cannonball?" John muttered, squinting at the descending object. From its shape, yes—but the scale was absurd. The thing was colossal, easily a hundred times the size of a standard round.
A doomsday shell was falling from the sky.
And with it… the curtain was about to rise on yet another nightmare.
