Legacy of the Lost: forbidden heir

Chapter 44: Chapter 44 –The Legend of the Unchosen

{The Silent Exit}

Jin-Seok stepped out of the Awakening Chamber, expression calm. Unreadable.

The audience—dead silent.

> "Did he really refuse a class…?"

> "He's insane…"

> "Or… is he above all that?"

But Jin-Seok?

He wasn't feeling interesting.

He wasn't feeling cool.

He wasn't even feeling proud.

He was feeling—

> "WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED IN THERE?!"

---

{Flashback — Seconds Ago}

The moment his hand touched the crystal, time seemed to freeze.

Dozens of glowing class spheres rose around him. Jin-Seok's eyes lit up like a child in a toy store.

> "Whoa… Warrior? Mage? Assassin? Spirit Caller?! Damn, I could be the Korean Geralt of Rivia if I play this right."

His mind raced with fantasy possibilities.

> "Berserker? Nah, too much yelling. Elementalist? That's flashy. Shadowmancer? Sounds edgy—maybe I'll get a cool trench coat."

Class: Beast Master

> "Okay, now we're talking. A wolf companion? Yes. Ride into battle on a tiger? Yes. Command a T-Rex? YES PLEASE."

> "Wait, would I have to feed them? What if they poop everywhere?"

He laughed to himself, spinning through classes like flipping through anime genres.

> "I could be anything."

> "This is it. My moment."

He reached out toward one class at last—then stopped.

A new interface blinked in front of him.

> [Legacy System Override Activated.]

[Class Selection Blocked.]

[Please Proceed Without Class.]

[This decision is irreversible.]

Jin-Seok blinked.

> "…Huh?"

He tried again.

> [Class Selection Blocked.]

[Please Proceed Without Class.]

> "Waitwaitwait. No no no. System, baby, we talked about this—let Daddy just tap one of the shiny balls."

He pointed at Hexblade.

> "Look, I could be the cool mysterious loner guy! Girls love that!"

> [Class Selection Blocked.]

[Please Proceed Without Class.]

Jin-Seok glared at the system prompt like it owed him rent.

> "So that's how it is, huh? You dangle all these cool classes in front of me, and then just—yoink? What is this, a gacha prank?"

The system didn't respond.

> DING.

[⚠ You cannot choose a class.]

---

"…Huh?"

He stared.

Then tried again.

Another class.

Same result.

> DING.

[⚠ You cannot choose a class.]

> "Wait… what the hell?"

Swipe.

Click.

Tap.

Even tried yelling at it.

> "WORK, YOU DAMN THING!"

But the system didn't care.

---

> [Please confirm: Proceed without class.]

---

> "…Pardon?"

He glared at the message.

> "No. I don't confirm. I UN-confirm. I reverse confirm!"

> "Let me pick a class! I wanna be a BEAST MASTER, dammit!"

> [Please confirm: Proceed without class.]

> "Stop showing me that, you crystal-coated, mana-sucking oversized gacha rock!!"

> [Please confirm.]

[Please confirm.]

[Please confirm.]

> "OH MY GOD IT'S LOOPING."

He even looked around.

> "Aris? You there, old man?! Say something!"

Silence.

Even his ever-present Legacy companion said nothing.

---

He stood in the middle of that divine light…

Surrounded by glowing orbs…

…being bullied by a system that refused to explain itself.

---

He sighed.

Stared at the repeated message.

> [Proceed as UNCLASSIFIED.]

He groaned.

> "Yeah, fine. Whatever."

> "Screw it. I didn't want your stupid classes anyway."

> "I'll make my own class. I'll call it... 'Too Handsome for Categories.'"

> [Confirmed. Proceeding as UNCLASSIFIED.]

---

{Back to Reality — Misunderstood Silence}

And now here he was, walking through the long corridor… face blank.

To the audience, he looked like a defiant rebel who had just spat on the Tower's traditions.

In his head?

He was still mad.

---

{Audience Reaction – Misread Glory}

The crowd watched in stunned silence.

> "He refused?!"

> "Arrogant bastard."

> "He just threw away all that power…!"

Near the back:

> "He must be on another level. To refuse that many classes… incredible…"

And meanwhile, Jin-Seok stood still, glowing in classless glory… silently dying inside.

(Jin-Seok, inner monologue):

> "These people think I'm flexing. Bro, I got rejected by the system. You ever get ghosted by a UI prompt?!"

He looked calm. Majestic.

(Jin-Seok):

> "Tch. I walk my own path."

(Also Jin-Seok, mentally):

> "I'm gonna cry in a corner later."

> "They're all staring like I'm some edgy anime anti-hero."

> "Buddy, I just got scammed by a magic crystal and no one helped me."

> "If you're gonna glare at me, at least hand me a customer support form!"

The whispers continued:

> "He refused to kneel before the system…"

> "That's… god-tier confidence…"

> "He's terrifying."

Jin-Seok twitched.

> "Yeah. Terrifying. I'm about to terrify the next guy who talks about me like I'm enlightened."

> "I wanted a TIGER. A PET TIGER."

---

Suddenly, a loud cheer erupted in the stands.

A chant even began to form.

> "Unclassified! Unclassified! Unclassified!"

Jin-Seok's eye twitched.

> "Oh no."

> "Please stop."

> "I did NOT choose this."

---

{Closing the Trial — Final Encounter}

As Jin-Seok approached the end of the corridor, the heavy double doors began to part, revealing the main hall beyond. The cheers and murmurs still echoed faintly.

He was almost out.

Almost free.

> "Just get me out of here before someone asks why I didn't pick a class—"

"Jin-Seok."

A calm, deep voice stopped him in his tracks.

He turned.

Quoros stood in the corridor, hands behind his back, golden robes swaying. His expression unreadable.

> Crap.

Why him? Can't I just go cry in peace?!

Quoros stepped closer. Neutral as ever.

> "You were given a choice. Hundreds of them."

> "Yet you selected none."

> "Why?"

Jin-Seok paused.

Took a slow breath.

Straightened his posture. Eyes cool. Voice sharp.

> "Because none of them were worth choosing."

(Jin-Seok, internally):

> "Because the damn system locked me out! Are you gonna fix it, Quoros?! No? Then don't ask stupid questions!"

Quoros blinked slowly. Then smiled faintly.

> "Interesting."

A pause.

> "You're an unusual one."

(Jin-Seok):

> "Some paths can't be defined by a single class."

> "I don't kneel for gifts I didn't earn."

(Also Jin-Seok, inside):

> "I WAS TRYING TO BE DEFINED! THE SYSTEM SAID NO!"

> "Sir, I just got softlocked by a bugged system. HELP."

Quoros raised an eyebrow. "Bold. But strange. Even among the irregulars, that's rare."

Jin-Seok kept his expression unreadable.

> "It's not arrogance. It's... fate."

(Inner:)

> 'It's a broken vending machine that eats your coin and doesn't spit out the snack, that's what it is!'

Quoros chuckled—either amused or impressed. He reached into his robe and pulled out a small silver orb, faint blue runes pulsing across its surface.

> "Take this. It's a one-time-use relay orb. Contact me with it if things ever get truly out of hand."

Jin-Seok raised a brow.

> "Why give me this?"

Quoros looked at him, tone soft.

> "Back in the Gravity Room... you could've reported me."

Jin-Seok smirked.

> "I did say I'd talk to higher authorities."

Quoros' face twitched slightly.

> "Yes, and I nearly had a panic attack. But you didn't. So… this is repayment."

He stepped back.

> "I can't help you directly. Not in combat or trials. But... sometimes, administrators can make things happen. If you really need help—use it."

Jin-Seok accepted the orb, tucking it into his inventory with a nod.

> "You sure you're not giving this to me just because I'm charming?"

> "...No."

> "Tch. Liar."

Quoros laughed under his breath.

Jin-Seok nodded. Looked at the orb one last time, then slipped it into his coat.

Behind him, Quoros watched quietly.

Ahead, the portal to Floor 1 pulsed — a vertical ocean of azure and gold, waiting to swallow him whole.

He stepped forward.

One footfall, then another. Each echoing louder than it should in the empty chamber.

His coat fluttered with the rising current of energy.

As he neared the edge, the portal's light kissed his frame — outlining him in flickering arcs of white, blue, and gold.

A hush fell over everything.

At the edge, Jin-Seok tilted his head slightly over his shoulder. He didn't look back.

> "Hope I don't have to use it, Quoros."

Quoros grinned faintly.

Without waiting for a reply, Jin-Seok stepped forward.

The portal welcomed him with a soft hum.

His body dissolved into strands of light — a constellation scattering into the stars.

His coat flared one last time, a sharp whip of fabric and wind —

— and then he was gone.

The portal dimmed.

The chamber fell silent.
