Konoha: The Thirty-Year-Old Uchiha Can’t Be Bothered

Chapter 45: Chapter 45 – Lost Memories: The Childhood Friend Girl

Fourteen years ago.

At the Tajima residence.

Gently caressing his wife's rounded belly, the young Tajima beamed with joy. Gazing at the dappled shadows of the trees outside the window, he made up his mind: his first child would be named Ban!

Just then, a crisp knock on the door broke his thoughts. Tajima got up, puzzled, and opened it — standing there was his long-unseen teacher, Yao.

"Sensei! It's been years since you've left your seclusion… what brings you here today?"

Seeing his esteemed teacher, Tajima immediately reached out and ushered him inside.

"Tajima — no, Clan Leader."

Expressionless, Yao bowed slightly in greeting.

"Sensei, please… in front of you I'll always be your disciple," Tajima said hurriedly, stopping him.

"Etiquette must not be neglected," Yao replied stiffly.

Tajima shook his head lightly, smiling. "Come now, Sensei — one doesn't just visit without a reason. What brings you here?"

After a long silence, Yao finally looked up, his jet-black eyes deep as an abyss, impossible to read.

"I, an old man who buried his own son… Kin left behind only one child, Gin. I wish to take him in, so that he doesn't grow up alone in this world."

Tajima's expression tightened slightly.

The two Mangekyō children had been personally entrusted to him by the late clan leader, with strict instructions to protect them.

Children who bore such power at their age were like ticking bombs — they had to be guided. Tajima could only regretfully shake his head.

"I'm sorry, Sensei."

As if he'd expected this, Yao's expression softened, and he said,

"In that case… allow me to join the research on them. I hear from Myo you've already begun studying their Sharingan abilities. I can be of help."

Seeing no way to refuse — and knowing Yao's research was second to none — Tajima nodded.

"Then I'll trouble you, Sensei."

Having gotten the answer he wanted, Yao didn't stay any longer. He bid a simple farewell and vanished into the night.

Over the next few years, Yao joined the research team and, with his formidable skill, gradually replaced Myo as the lead researcher.

At the time, Tajima's wife was expecting. As a new father, he was busy juggling clan matters and family, leaving the Mangekyō research entirely in Yao's hands.

Even so, he didn't leave himself without countermeasures.

He'd heard troubling whispers about Yao's increasingly erratic behavior. So, besides keeping Myo as his deputy, he also assigned the loyal En to guard the research lab — and to keep an eye on Yao.

Years passed.

Several of Tajima's own sons were born.

Gin, because of his family status, was occasionally allowed outside the lab under supervision. But Nameless, because of her Yasakani no Magatama, was kept confined.

This uneasy peace lasted… until six years ago.

"What? Yao proposed training them as 'weapons of war'?"

One day, while reviewing paperwork, Tajima looked up in disbelief at the worried-looking Myo.

"Yes. According to Yao's findings, Gin's Mangekyō and Nameless's abilities complement each other.

Her Kagutsuchi enhances and shapes his Amaterasu into versatile, more deadly forms.

His Tsukuyomi helps her Yasakani no Magatama brand many enemies at once, letting her drain their chakra to feed his illusions, creating a perpetual engine."

Myo held a sheaf of papers as he delivered the report.

"But Gin is his own grandson — how could he?" Tajima asked, incredulous.

He knew well what it meant to mark someone as a "weapon of war."

It was a cruel and inhumane process, stripping them of identity and turning them into mindless tools.

"I can't say. But he's already begun trials — starting with Nameless."

Myo's sunken features showed faint worry. Nameless's Yasakani no Magatama was extremely dangerous — more than Gin's purely offensive powers. If she lost control, the damage to the clan could be catastrophic.

"No! Stop him at once. Myo, take his place — and soothe the two children."

"Yes!"

Myo left immediately.

Inside the lab.

In a white-walled room stood two beds.

Leaning by the window, a boy yawned lazily, his tousled curls swaying in the breeze. His handsome face wore a faint, sunny smile — blissfully unaware that a nightmare loomed.

His name was Gin.

But he wasn't really from here. He'd fallen into a river in another world… and drifted here, a hapless isekai traveler.

When he'd first arrived, seeing the old-fashioned world, he'd nearly fainted. For a while he even wondered if he'd gone back to some brick-and-water era. He racked his brain for survival tips.

How do you make soap again?

But then, bundled in swaddling clothes, he saw the Uchiha fan crest on his father's back — and instantly perked up.

So this was the Naruto world… and he was Uchiha. As long as it wasn't the eve of the massacre, he was golden!

Or so he thought.

Soon he realized the timeline seemed off — the main story was still far away, and he had no cheat powers. So he played it safe, laying low until his chance came.

Thankfully, his family was solid.

His father, Kin, was a strong, well-liked man — a proper Minato-type.His mother, though outwardly cold, was deeply caring.Even his mysterious grandfather… though he didn't seem to like Gin much, he did dote on Kin.

Gin thought he'd landed in a nice slice-of-life story.

But tragedy never asks permission.

Soon after forming bonds with his parents, news came from the front: both had died.

Maybe it was his modern sensitivity, but grief and rage overwhelmed him. His Mangekyō awakened then and there — though the strain left him unconscious.

When he woke, he found himself under the old clan leader's protection — along with the neighbor girl.

Her parents, subordinates of his father, had also fallen.

So fate brought them both here, to this research lab.

"Ha~"

Stretching lazily, sunlight caught in his curls, Gin turned to the delicate girl lying on the other bed and called,

"Hey, Hikari… don't you want to go out? I can ask Uncle to let you come along next time. Oh, and you know what? Izuna wet the bed last week! Hahaha — Auntie really let him have it."

His eyes crinkled with mischief.

As a traveler, discovering he had two famous cousins, how could he not properly "train" them?

Achievement unlocked: Flicked baby Ban's little kun-kun.Achievement unlocked: Ruffled two-year-old Ban's puppy head.Achievement unlocked: Watched three-year-old Ban dance like a madman.

He cupped a hand to his mouth and whispered, "But I know it was actually Ban's sheet. That brat blamed it on Izuna 'cause he's younger."

The girl finally opened her eyes, rolling them dramatically.

"Stop telling me your brothers' embarrassing stories. I don't care," she said flatly, rising to sit.

"As for going outside… there's nothing out there for me anymore. I'm fine here. As long as you're here."

Her gaze softened slightly as it fell on the boy still trying to make her laugh.

Then she added:

"If you're really that bored, you should go see your grandfather. He's locked himself in the lab for months. Aren't you worried?"

Gin's eyes drooped into a dead-fish look, and he started grumbling.

"Ugh… why'd you bring him up? Every time he comes it's to drag us into more tests. Wears me out and never even gives me candy. Compared to him, Grandpa En is way better — always sneaks me sweets."

Eight years ago, they'd been brought to the lab.

At first Tajima visited often. But after becoming clan leader, he came less and less.

Gin was occasionally allowed to return home for short breaks, but Hikari, because her Sharingan was unstable, was kept under Myo's watch.

Later, a new researcher joined — Gin immediately recognized his long-estranged grandfather Yao.

After replacing Myo, Yao began spending more time with the two children… and even left behind a number of photos.
