Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Combat Skills Training
Nightfall had settled over the Forest of Death, and Jiraiya finally stirred from her slumber. As she opened her eyes groggily, she was greeted by an unusual sight—a pair of massive bear paws roasting over the fire.
"What is that!?" Jiraiya exclaimed, scrambling backward in shock.
Kaiton, who was carefully tending the fire, turned his head with a smile that was anything but friendly.
"Jiraiya, you fool! Falling asleep in the middle of a battle? You're lucky we didn't leave you behind for the bear to snack on!" Kaiton's voice was dripping with sarcasm, but there was a genuine undertone of frustration.
"Wait, wait! Tsunade, no! Please don't hit me—Kaiton, save me!" Jiraiya pleaded, but Tsunade was already cracking her knuckles.
By the time the group sat down to eat, Jiraiya's face was black and blue, but the bear paw roast was delicious enough to make him forget the pain. The four feasted together, satisfied with their efforts.
A Reflection on the Death Forest
After their meal, Kaiton reclined against a fallen log, his thoughts drifting to the earlier battle.
"I underestimated the creatures in this forest," Kaiton admitted, his tone thoughtful. "I assumed the Death Forest was only a challenge for ordinary people. But those beasts… even Genin would struggle against them."
Tsunade, still chewing on her bear paw, gave him a skeptical look. "You're only saying that because we were tipsy. If we were at full strength, that bear wouldn't have stood a chance."
Jiraiya nodded solemnly. "It's clear we need more training. That's why I've decided—no more drinking during missions!"
Tsunade raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really? You're the one who begged Kaiton for wine."
Jiraiya flushed, scratching the back of his head. "Well, lessons learned…"
Orochimaru, seated quietly on the edge of the group, finally spoke. "We lack actual combat experience. Our techniques are strong, but our coordination and adaptability need work. I propose we stay here for a while and train."
The others quickly agreed.
A Week of Training
The next morning, Kaiton ventured deep into the forest to find suitable training opponents. It wasn't long before he encountered a sleek black cheetah.
The cheetah's speed was astounding. Even with the Eight Inner Gates activated, Kaiton struggled to keep up. The creature darted around him, delivering rapid strikes before vanishing into the shadows. Kaiton barely managed to land a single blow before the cheetah retreated.
Frustrated but determined, Kaiton sought out a different challenge and soon stumbled upon a massive gorilla.
The beast towered over him, its thick arms dragging along the forest floor. With a roar, it charged, and Kaiton braced himself for a fight.
In the first three days of their encounters, Kaiton found himself thoroughly outmatched. The gorilla's defense was nearly impenetrable, and its counterattacks left him battered and bruised after every bout.
But Kaiton's resilience paid off.
Day Four: Kaiton began to land counterattacks.
Day Five: Their fights became evenly matched.
Day Six: Kaiton was in control, dodging the gorilla's strikes and landing decisive blows.
Day Seven: Kaiton, using precise strikes and his enhanced speed, delivered a knockout blow to the gorilla.
As he watched the beast collapse, Kaiton felt a surge of satisfaction. His taijutsu skills had improved significantly, and he was more confident in his abilities.
The Return to Camp
When Kaiton returned to the camp, Jiraiya was already there, sprawled on the ground and looking thoroughly exhausted.
"Phew… I'm wiped out," Jiraiya groaned. "I've been practicing my ninjutsu control all day. I think I've finally made some progress."
Orochimaru arrived soon after, looking as composed as ever. There wasn't a scratch on him, but his eyes gleamed with intensity.
Lastly, Tsunade emerged from the forest, dragging a massive black bear behind her.
"Another bear?" Jiraiya muttered, his eyes wide. "What is it with you and bears?"
"Revenge," Tsunade replied simply, her grin fierce. "Kaiton, roast this one too!"
As Kaiton prepared the new bear paw roast, the group reflected on their week of training.
Progress and Growth
Over the past week, the group had grown stronger in different ways.
Kaiton: His taijutsu and combat instincts had reached new heights, and his mastery of the Eight Inner Gates was steadily improving.
Jiraiya: His chakra control had advanced, allowing him to use his ninjutsu more efficiently.
Orochimaru: His tactics and precision were sharper than ever, and his presence on the battlefield was unnerving even to his teammates.
Tsunade: Her physical strength and medical ninjutsu made her a force to be reckoned with, and her confidence was unshakable.
As they sat around the campfire, Kaiton looked at his friends and smiled. "This training was tough, but it was worth it. We're stronger now—and we're ready for whatever comes next."
With that, the group settled in for the night, their bonds of friendship stronger than ever.
