Chapter 57: Chapter 57: King of Kings
"Gambling doesn't just rely on luck... it also depends on strength and skill?" Tsunade murmured, eyes wide with realization.
It was as if she had discovered an entirely new world. Her gaze turned excitedly toward Peter. "Boss, I want products that can improve my strength and skill!"
"Of course! I'll find just the thing for you!" Peter replied, walking swiftly toward one of the counters. He rummaged through a shelf and pulled out a book, slapping it onto the countertop. The cover had a bold title written in large, golden characters: "King of Kings."
"This book covers in detail all sorts of gambling tricks—poker cheating, mahjong manipulation, dice rolling techniques, and more. If you master its contents, you'll never lose another bet!" Peter declared with pride.
Tsunade's eyes lit up like stars. She stared at the book as if it were a treasure chest overflowing with gold. Her throat bobbed as she swallowed hard. "Boss, how much is this book?"
"Not expensive at all. Just two hundred thousand taels."
Compared to other rare and mystical items in Peter's store, this price was relatively affordable. After all, it was only a foundational teaching guide. Whether someone could truly learn from it or not was another matter entirely. Naturally, Tsunade didn't know this... and Peter certainly wasn't going to tell her.
"I'll take it!" Tsunade said enthusiastically. "Shizune, pay the man!"
In her mind, she was already picturing the future—sitting at a gambling table, surrounded by admiring onlookers, raking in winnings with an elegant smirk. She imagined herself transforming from the notorious "Legendary Sucker" into a gambling prodigy, feared and revered across the lands.
Hearing Tsunade's command, Shizune's expression twisted in alarm. She reached out to clutch her coin pouch protectively and asked in disbelief, "Lady Tsunade, do you really want to buy this book?"
Tsunade nodded without hesitation. "Of course! It's just two hundred thousand taels. Once I master the techniques in this book, we'll be swimming in money! I'll take you out for all the best food and drink!"
She even patted her chest firmly, like she was making a solemn oath to the heavens.
What Shizune didn't know was that Tsunade would actually fulfill that promise in the future—and more. Eventually, Shizune would be living a life of luxury, counting coins until her fingers cramped.
But for now, she could only sigh in helplessness. She felt Tsunade had been completely duped by Peter's silver tongue. Was it even possible to win every gamble? Shizune couldn't explain why Tsunade always lost at gambling, but the idea that a book could turn the tables sounded far-fetched at best.
Still, she knew that even if she tried to stop her master, Tsunade wouldn't listen. With no other choice, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a scroll.
As fate would have it, the amount of silver left on them totaled exactly 200,000 taels.
Tsunade eagerly handed the scroll to Peter.
With a satisfied grin, Peter took it and handed over the book in exchange.
Tsunade tore into the book with the eagerness of a child unwrapping a long-awaited gift. The moment she laid eyes on the first line, her breathing grew rapid.
In that instant, a vivid scene materialized in her imagination: she stood atop the ninja world, arms crossed with pride, surrounded by crowds cheering her name. She had become a god of gambling, admired and envied by all.
Honestly, who could blame her? The book's opening line was far too tempting.
> "Back then, Chen Daozi learned the contents of this book and won 37 million with just 20 yuan."
Tsunade's eyes gleamed. "Hehehe… if he could do it, so can I! Just imagine—thirty-seven million taels starting from twenty! From this day forward, call me the Gambling Monster… the monster among monsters!"
Her expression turned almost deranged with glee. She was grinning uncontrollably, and a little drool even trickled from the corner of her mouth.
Shizune panicked when she saw her master in this state. She grabbed Tsunade's shoulders and shook her desperately. "Lady Tsunade! Are you okay? Please snap out of it!"
The shaking worked. Tsunade blinked a few times and seemed to awaken from a deep dream. She looked dazed, then suddenly flushed when she realized she had lost her composure.
Quickly, she wiped the corner of her mouth with her sleeve, trying to pretend nothing had happened. To mask her embarrassment, she asked casually, "So, Boss, how long would it take to master all the gambling techniques in this book?"
Peter stroked his chin thoughtfully. "It would take about ten years to get started. Maybe longer to become a Grandmaster."
"What! Ten years?" Tsunade shrieked. "Why didn't you tell me that before?"
Peter raised his hands innocently and said with a shrug, "You never asked."
Tsunade was so enraged she nearly fainted. Her hands twitched as she fought the urge to land a few punches on Peter's smug face. That book had cost her everything she had—200,000 taels, gone in an instant!
But before she could act on her fury, Peter said casually, "But there is a way to become a Grandmaster instantly."
Tsunade froze. "What did you say?"
Peter smiled mysteriously. "Wait here."
He walked over to another shelf and pulled out a second book. This one had a much more extravagant cover, with glowing letters that read: "King of Kings – Deluxe Edition."
Tsunade's eyes narrowed. She had a sinking feeling she was about to be swindled again. Her fists clenched tightly, her joints popping audibly as she prepared to smash Peter into the floor.
But Peter quickly clarified, "Hold on! This isn't an ordinary book. This is a skill book. The person who uses it will instantly learn all the skills inside!"
Tsunade's fists relaxed. "You mean… I don't need to study at all?"
"Exactly. Instant mastery."
Her face lit up again. "How much?"
Peter slowly held up three fingers. "Thirty million taels."
Tsunade nearly choked. "Thirty… million?!"
"Don't think of it as expensive," Peter said earnestly. "This book includes three entire gambling disciplines—poker, mahjong, and dice. Once you master them, you'll be an unbeatable gambler. Winning money will be easier than breathing. Think about it—how long would it take to earn that back? Not long at all."
Tsunade hesitated. But the more she thought about it, the more sense it made. If she could finally stop losing and start winning big… wasn't thirty million a small price to pay?
"Boss, reserve the book for me! I'll go back and get the money!" she shouted, and dashed out of the store in a blur. "Shizune, stay here! Don't let anyone else buy the book!"
Shizune was left standing alone, dumbfounded. "Wait… she left me here? Just like that?"
Then it hit her. "Where is Lady Tsunade going to get thirty million taels?"
Her face turned pale. "She's not going to… no, she wouldn't…"
Panic overtaking her, Shizune rushed out after Tsunade. "Lady Tsunade! Don't sell the clan's land!!"
Back in the store, Peter blinked in confusion. "Huh?"
Did he hear that correctly? Was Tsunade seriously planning to sell the Senju clan's ancestral land?
If Hashirama and Tobirama were still alive to witness this, they would probably be so furious that they'd rise from the grave. Tobirama especially would be gnashing his teeth in rage.
Peter scratched his head, muttering to himself, "Well… Tsunade is the last of the Senju line. Selling off the land might actually be the safest option. At least it'll keep greedy hands away…"
