Chapter 181: l
Alexander Hamilton
Chapter Text
<
That was the message all the Hashira had received that evening, even Uzui but without Tokito and Gyomei, as a surprise for their efforts over the years. The reactions had been different: Mitsuri had been overcome by her usual happiness, Shinobu, Obanai and Sanemi had been a little pissed off because 'they had to exterminate demons, not go to the theatre' while Uzui was more bored to leave his wifes at home than excited, but such a flashy invitation could not be refused.
And so we come to the current situation in front of the theatre of the nearby city where the Hashira had been welcomed by Amane, who had been forced by her husband to go because she deserved some rest for all she was doing for him and the corp.
But the thing that escaped everyone's eyes except Obanai and Sanemi was Tomioka's absence when Amane had announced that everyone was there and could come in. Gyomei's absence was probably due to his blindness (they didn't want him to feel uncomfortable) and Tokito's to his age, probably not completely suitable for the show.
Sanemi: "Oi Amane-sama. Tomioka?"
Perhaps Amane had let out a small laugh before answering that had been covered by Mitsuri's voice who had only now noticed the lack of the water pillar.
Amane: "He's here too. He's the one who got us the tickets even though he won't be sitting with us. You'll all see what I mean later."
Shinobu seemed angry at that half-answer, he was the antisocial boy who had gotten tickets for all of them (distracting them from their work mostly!) and then didn't even bother to be with them?!
Mitsuri: "Ehhhhhhh-! Tomioka get tickets for everyone?! Isn't this a brand new show with lots of people wanting to see it?!!?"
Uzui: "Indeed. I've heard that his music is described as futuristic, and that no one has ever heard anything like it. I didn't take Tomioka for a person who likes musicals, he's such a dull boy that I didn't think he would appreciate stuff like this. And to have found these tickets... he must have been the first to buy them"
Even those who had never been to the theatre of the Hashira present could see that the seats they had reached while they were speaking were probably the best in the whole theatre, in front of the stage and in the second row, perfect for a full view of the stage.
Obanai: "He probably wanted to prove that he's so better than us so he had to throw it in our faces like that."
Mitsuri: "that's not nice..."
Sanemi: "but it's probably true"
Amane: "Please avoid making this mess, the show is about to start and there are other people in this theater."
With this everyone goes silent in time to see all the lights go out except one that faced the stage, there was still no sign of Tomioka but Amane seemed too calm to have even just Mitsuri worried about it.
The first actors enter, one stands under the stage light before the music starts and he starts singing
BURR actor:
"How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a
Scotsman, dropped in the middle of a forgotten
Spot in the Caribbean by providence, impoverished, in squalor
Grow up to be a hero and a scholar?"
All the Hashira and Amane were silent.. the words were so-.. raw for a show and the actor was singing in a very strange and very fast way.She loved it above all because she knew who wrote that text, she would never have expected this.
LAURENS actor:
"The ten-dollar Founding Father without a father
Got a lot farther by working a lot harder
By being a lot smarter
By being a self-starter
By fourteen, they placed him in charge of a trading charter"
At that point a reconnaissance light appears in Shinobu's head, she had a minimum knowledge of American history that she had acquired by studying the flora of the foreign territory.
JEFFERSON actor:
"And every day while slaves were being slaughtered and carted
Away across the waves, he struggled and kept his guard up
Inside, he was longing for something to be a part of
The brother was ready to beg, steal, borrow, or barter"
Sanemi: "Perfect, a story about a thief! What could be worse... at least let's hope it's quick."
Uzui: "I heard it lasts just under 3 hours buddy"
Obanai: "I'm not doing this-"
Sanemi: "Tomioka must have done it on purpose to make fun of us all!-"
Shinobu: "Lower your voices."
MADISON actor:
"Then a hurricane came, and devastation reigned
Our man saw his future drip, dripping down the drain
Put a pencil to his temple, connected it to his brain
And he wrote his first refrain, a testament to his pain"
BURR actor:
"Well, the word got around, they said,
Took up a collection just to send him to the mainland.
The world's gonna know your name. What's your name, man?"
HAMILTON actor, Tomioka:
"Alexander Hamilton
My name is Alexander Hamilton
And there's a million things I haven't done
But just you wait, just you wait..."
Hashira: "Wtf!?"
Amane: "It was worth keeping until now. Yes, Tomioka composed and wrote everything... and as is often the case in musicals of this genre, he also plays the lead role. Before you say anything, he was very embarrassed about this, so it took us a long time to convince him to perform and not his replacement."
Uzui and Shinobu: "He?! He writed the all musical!"
Obanai: "Didn't you say Tengen has all sorts of innovative stuff and sells out these musical?!"
Mitsuri: "Ehhhhhhh- so coooool! He has a good voice"
Sanemi: " Hell no..."
ELIZA actress:
"When he was ten his father split, full of it, debt-ridden
Two years later, see Alex and his mother bed-ridden
Half-dead sittin' in their own sick, the scent thick"
FULL COMPANY - HAMILTON (whispering):
"
WASHINGTON actor & COMPANY:
"Moved in with a cousin, the cousin committed suicide
Left him with nothin' but ruined pride, something new inside
A voice saying
Obanai to Sanemi: "And he's played by Tomioka? As if he knows anything about pain and suffering."
Needless to say, that makes Sanemi laugh
BURR actor & COMPANY:
"There would have been nothin' left to do
For someone less astute
He woulda been dead or destitute
Without a cent of restitution
Started workin', clerkin' for his late mother's landlord
Tradin' sugar cane and rum and all the things he can't afford
Scammin' for every book he can get his hands on
Plannin' for the future see him now as he stands on (ooh)
The bow of a ship headed for a new land
In New York you can be a new man"
COMPANY & HAMILTON, MEN AND WOMEN:
"In New York you can be a new man (Just you wait)
In New York you can be a new man (Just you wait)
In New York you can be a new man
In New York, New York
Just you wait!"
COMPANY:
"Alexander Hamilton (Alexander Hamilton)
We are waiting in the wings for you (waiting in the wings for you)
You could never back down
You never learned to take your time!
Oh, Alexander Hamilton (Alexander Hamilton)
When America sings for you
Will they know what you overcame?
Will they know you rewrote the game?
The world will never be the same, oh"
Uzui: "Well... Tomioka give it all, this is a flashy intro for a ass long musical"
Mitsuri: "I didn't know he has such a good voice!"
BURR, MEN, & COMPANY:
"The ship is in the harbor now
See if you can spot him
Just you wait
Another immigrant
Comin' up from the bottom
Just you wait
His enemies destroyed his rep
America forgot him"
MULLIGAN/MADISON & LAFAYETTE/JEFFERSON:
"We fought with him"
LAURENS/PHILIP:
"Me? I died for him"
WASHINGTON:
"Me? I trusted him"
ELIZA & ANGELICA & MARIA:
"Me? I loved him"
Mitsuri: "EHHHHHHHHH"
Amane: "Kanroji.."
Mitsuri: "Sorry!"
BURR:
"And me? I'm the damn fool that shot him"
COMPANY:
"There's a million things I haven't done
But just you wait!"
BURR:
"What's your name, man?"
COMPANY:
"Alexander Hamilton!"Sanemi: So Amane-sama, ur telling me that Tomioka is a fuckin actor?! And the protagonist of this musical?!
Amane: Yes. I didn't really know but my husband did. Like i said before when he asked about Tomioka for the tickets he was e
really embarrassed. He said that some parts are... Raw and direct as meaning.. That's why Muichiro isn't here while Himejima isn't here because he assisted to the premiere of the show a week ago
Shinobu: So Tomioka got Hamilton's parts? Not that i didn't like his voice but with how much we're busy with the demons, it was not the case that he accepted such an important role
Amane: Actually Tomioka wrote all the musical so i think someone would have like to take his role. Tomioka worked so hard for this after all
Obanai, Sanemi, Uzui, and Shinobu were on the verge of a mental breakdown. Their silent colleague had been writing a 3-hour musical, working through rehearsals, probably doing all the auditions and all without any of them noticing. Mitsuri was trying not to let out one of her little screams, she was glad that Tomioka started expressing himself in any way, in the end Mitsuri had had more conversations with Tokito than with Tomioka
Tomioka and the Burr actor take the stage.
Tomioka was more expressive than he had ever been. while trying to play the part of the lost man on stage with a book in his hand which, to Uzui's delight, was not the script. Habit.
Shinobu: it's starting again..
COMPANY:
1776. New York City
Mitsuri: Ehhhh! This story is so old! How did Tomioka write a musical about it?
Obanai: Ask him later
Mitsuri: True!
Sanemi had definitely not seen Obanai blush
HAMILTON:
Pardon me. Are you Aaron Burr, sir?
BURR:
That depends. Who's asking?
HAMILTON:
Oh, well, sure, sir
I'm Alexander Hamilton, I'm at your service, sir
I have been looking for you
BURR:
I'm getting nervous
Sanemi: I'll be too
Uzui: yeah.. Tomioka sound like a stalker
HAMILTON:
Sir…
I heard your name at Princeton. I was seeking an accelerated course of study when I got sort of out of sorts with a buddy of yours. I may have punched him. It's a blur, sir. He handles the financials?
BURR:
You punched the bursar?
HAMILTON:
Yes!
Shinobu: That energy was way too much
Uzui: I'm loving this Tomioka!
Sanemi: He should use that energy to kill demons not for this bullshit
Amane: With Tomioka's mind, if he were to think about demons all day long, he'd go crazy. It's a good thing he has a hobby.
I wanted to do what you did.
Graduate in two, then join the revolution. He looked at me like I was stupid, I'm not stupid
So how'd you do it? How'd you graduate so fast?
BURR:
It was my parents' dying wish before they passed
Mitsuri: Poor sir!
Shinobu: Your voice, Kanroji
Mitsuri: Sorry-!
HAMILTON:
You're an orphan. Of course! I'm an orphan
God, I wish there was a war!
Then we could prove that we're worth more
Than anyone bargained for…
Obanai: There's no point in hoping for a war... Tomioka is crazy.
Shinobu: Those were different times, the mentality was different. This is probably what Tomioka is aiming for.
BURR:
Can I buy you a drink?
HAMILTON:
That would be nice
BURR:
While we're talking, let me offer you some free advice
Talk less
HAMILTON:
What?
Mitsuri: Tomioka is actually yapping a lot on stage, I've never heard him talk so much!
Amane: I've noticed that too
Everyone did it, it was impossible not to. This Tomioka seemed creepy knowing how he usually was .
BURR:
Smile more
HAMILTON:
Ha
BURR:
Don't let them know what you're against or what you're for
HAMILTON:
You can't be serious
BURR:
You wanna get ahead?
HAMILTON:
Yes
BURR:
Fools who run their mouths off wind up dead
LAURENS:
Yo yo yo yo yo!
What time is it?
LAURENS/LAFAYETTE/MULLIGAN:
Show time!
Sanemi: We're sure these idiots aren't really drunk
Obanai: They look like
Amane: Tomioka wouldn't have allowed it. I saw him at the rehearsals for the show one time, I can't imagine what he's like before the show.
Mitsuri: Really?! He doesn't seem like the type
BURR:
…like I said…
LAURENS:
Show time! Show time! Yo!
I'm John Laurens in the place to be!
Two pints o' Sam Adams, but I'm workin' on three, uh!
Those redcoats don't want it with me!
Cuz I will pop chick-a pop these cops till I'm free!
LAFAYETTE:
Oui oui, mon ami, je m'appelle Lafayette!
The Lancelot of the revolutionary set!
I came from afar just to say "Bonsoir!"
Tell the King "Casse toi!" Who's the best?
C'est moi!
Uzui: French? Flashy
Obanai: Tomioka must have had someone write it for him, maybe the guy is actually French.
Sanemi: Probably
Shinobu: As much as I'm sorry, I don't think so, those are very easy sentences.
MULLIGAN:
Brrrah brraaah! I am Hercules Mulligan
Up in it, lovin' it, yes I heard ya mother said "Come again?"
Sanemi: Hell no
Obanai: I'm out-
Mitsuri, blushing: Hah-?!!!
LAFAYETTE & LAURENS:
Ayyyyy
MULLIGAN:
Lock up ya daughters and horses, of course
It's hard to have intercourse over four sets of corsets…
LAFAYETTE:
Wow
LAURENS:
No more sex, pour me another brew, son!
Let's raise a couple more…
Amane: thank god...
LAURENS/LAFAYETTE/MULLIGAN:
To the revolution!
LAURENS:
Well, if it ain't the prodigy of Princeton college!
MULLIGAN:
Aaron Burr!
LAURENS:
Give us a verse, drop some knowledge!
Uzui: Ok this is getting very-
Sanemi: Shut the hell up...
Obanai: Everyone is watching us yk?
It was completely true, some people were still watching them though. Tomioka too, from the stage
BURR:
Good luck with that: you're takin' a stand
You spit. I'm 'a sit. We'll see where we land
LAFAYETTE/MULLIGAN:
Boooo!
LAURENS:
Burr, the revolution's imminent. What do you stall for?
HAMILTON:
If you stand for nothing, Burr, what'll you fall for?
LAURENS:
Ooh
Who are you?
MULLIGAN:
Ooh
Who are you?
LAFAYETTE:
Ooh
Who are you?
MULLIGAN/LAFAYETTE/LAURENS:
Ooh, who is this kid? What's he gonna do?
