Chapter 64 - I
Chief Sun turned around and saw Jing Xingzhi standing on the embankment, and his heart felt a lot better.
As if he knew, Jing Xingzhi turned around and smiled reassuringly at Chief Sun, then turned to look at the embarrassed trio in the river.
The three people who fell into the water looked pitiful. They looked at the potholes and protruding stones on the embankment.
Jing Xingzhi happened to be standing on the river embankment, looking into the river curiously, thinking that if someone fell from here, their face wouldn’t be as pitted as the river’s surface.
Nowadays, as an official, appearance matters. They didn’t have to be handsome, tall, and powerful, but at least not intimidating. If they were too ugly or disabled, they wouldn’t gain much dignity and would be looked down upon.
With this in mind, the three of them swarmed forward, thinking they would press the person against the protruding stones on the river embankment and rub him hard.
By ruining his face, they completed the task assigned. Then they could safely hide in Qu’s family, maybe even get promoted to manager.
After pushing the person down, the three could jump into the river and paddled away. They were good swimmers, known as Qu’s family swimming fish!
The timing was wrong and forged by Jing Xingzhi and Wang Zhuang! The three swarmed up, one dodged by Jing Xingzhi, while the other two were kicked down the river embankment by Wang Zhuang.
Their faces pressed against the uneven surface; a small river of blood wiped out. The pain was so intense they screamed as they fell into the water, covering their faces and bodies.
Chief Sun widened his eyes, thinking he was being slapped in the face. He pointed into the river, calling out angrily saying, “Go down and catch them! Don’t let anyone escape!”
If Jing Xingzhi fell into the water, Chief Sun would be in trouble. But Jing Xingzhi was safe, and the people on the river was fished up.
Not only government officials but also the people in Liutiao Village took off their clothes, splashing water to block anyone trying to escape.
Wang Zhuang stood behind Jing Xingzhi and said with regret, “It’s a pity I don’t know how to swim.” Most of the people he brought were from the capital.
Jing Xingzhi patted him on the shoulder: “It’s okay, with so many people helping, we’ll catch them.”
As Jing Xingzhi spoke, the three had been chased, intercepted, fished out of the river, and huddled together. The servants suspected the young master was lying…
Where was the little person he had promised?
How could the little man’s subordinates be so powerful? Why would a person of small stature could make the Chief Sun so furious and call for people to arrest them?!
The three of them wanted to cry while enduring the pain of their water-soaked wounds, whimpering miserably.
Chief Sun glanced at Jing Xingzhi, unharmed and clean, with a gentle and harmless smile. He smiled back at Jing Xingzhi, then turned back with a fierce look on his face: “Kneel down! Who are you three?”
After questioning, the three could still persist.
Wang Zhuang was impatient, standing aside, clenching his fists and cracking his knuckles.
The three shook together and took Qu Yongzhi out without hesitation.
It’s not that they were a betrayer! But this man was too scary!!
After finding out that the person behind the attack was the Qu family, Chief Sun looked solemn, feeling a little fearful and confused.
What he was afraid of was the Qu family behind Qu Yongzhi. Otherwise, if it were Qu Yongzhi himself, old officials like Chief Sun would give him a meal and make him regret it.
Looking at people, but he also had to look at the relationship behind them. Chief Sun was afraid of what the Qu family had in mind.
But something was wrong! Chief Sun was puzzled. Young Master Jing was a distinguished guest of their prefect. Being able to bring out Secretary Fang showed that their prefect valued him.
It was precisely because of Cheng Wei’s attention that Chief Sun was very worried about Jing Xingzhi. Nothing happened in other divisions, but if something happened when he was with him, an old minister of the government?!
‘Is it possible that as he gets older, you think he is easy to bully?’
Or maybe the Qu family was making trouble with their prefect?! Chief Sun felt as if he had guessed the truth, just missing a little bit of precise information.
Chief Sun came to his senses and asked Jing Xingzhi: “Young Master Jing, do you know the members of the Qu family? Or maybe you went… to a Flower House and had a conflict with someone…”
Chief Sun was a serious person, and his face turned red when asked about this. Okay, but Qu Yongzhi and his group were notoriously crooked, and they were most likely to have conflicts in the Flower House.
Jing Xingzhi raised his eyebrows and said decisively, “No.” He added, “Chief Sun may not know that I got married not long ago. It was because my wife was not feeling well that he didn’t come with me. Otherwise, I would have taken him with me.”
Chief Sun thought about it carefully and realized he had really never heard about Young Master Jing’s affairs and he had misunderstood the honest man.
Chief Sun apologized implicitly, explaining, “It should be that the Qu family wants to make trouble with us, but the summer harvest is coming soon.”
Summer harvest was the day for paying taxes and grain, and it was also a struggle between interests and political achievements.
Jing Xingzhi nodded, thinking he, a good young man, must have been implicated. He had never been to a Flower House and had never heard of Qu Yongzhi’s name.
After this happened, it was discovered that the problem with the river embankment was due to a problem with the materials used. They had to go back to the government office to look through the old ledgers. The group did not waste a moment and took the three captured people back to the city.
