Chapter 60: Zenith Trial Begins
Alice brought her paint brush and canvas with her, she was painting the sea while sitting on her beach tower under an umbrella. She watched as the seagulls flew in the air and the waves crashed into the shore. Yoshi, back in his human form, was resting his head on her thighs as she painted.
"Ah, shoot." exclaimed Alice. "I ran out of blue."
"Hey, honey, I want you to be careful."
"Huh?"
"When you're taking this trial, you will be fighting an entire criminal organization that's lasted for nearly 50 years. Just please don't get too hurt."
Alice giggled. "Don't worry, sweetie. I'll be safe."
"Man, it's hot."
"Shall I run sunscreen on you?"
"You just want an excuse to touch my back and muscles."
"Are you gonna complain though?"
"N-No, I suppose not."
Alice put her painting to the side and pulled out some sunscreen from her art bag. Yoshi got on his stomach and Alice sat down on his back. She started caressing every part of his back. "You sure look comfortable. What a dork. But you're my little dork."
"My head feels fuzzy. This... feels... really good."
"After I finish with you, do you want to rub sunscreen on my body?" Alice said with a teasing tone.
"YES, MA'AM!"
Suddenly, the two saw a massive tidal wave coming towards them. On it, there was Sybil surfing on a surfboard made of water. She was using her passive skill to raise the waves so she could surf on them.
The wave was around to hit Alice and Yoshi, but Yoshi ended up creating a water barrier around him and Alice. The barrier started spinning, knocking all water from the wave away. Sybil crashed on the ground and got buried in the sand.
Alice looked over and saw her painting was ruined. "Aw, my canvas." She grabbed her stand and the wet painting. Her eyes drooped as she whimpered.
"Sorry, honey." said Yoshi. "I should have made a water barrier around it."
"No, no, sweetheart. It's not your fault."
"Ow, sorry, Alice." said Sybil.
"Go die."
"... Ok, anywho-"
"Are you ok, Sybil?" asked Yoshi concerningly.
"Yeah. Time to do it again."
"Go die."
"..."
On, the other side of the beach, Kierse and Coffee were building a sand castle. "Wow, it's so nice." Coffee exclaimed with sparkling eyes.
"It is really nice."
"I remember the kids and I in my village used to do this... It was a lot of fun..."
"Coffee."
Coffee started to tear up. "I miss them."
"..."
"S-Sorry..."
"No need to apologize. You've been through a lot for someone your age. If you ever need to talk to me, I'll be here. I'm sure even Alice would be willing to help you if you just asked her."
Later that day, Sylvie and Maroon were out fishing in the ocean. While that was Yoshi and Colette were setting up for a barbecue.
"Yoshi, I have a question."
"Oh, sure. Go ahead."
"Are you and Alice going to have kids?"
Yoshi blushed. "Kind of random, lady!"
"Well, the average life expectancy for keepers is 23-34. You guys are 18 now, right?"
"Well, yeah, but..." Yoshi's imagination started to go wild. He blushed and looked away.
In his head, Alice was lying in their bed. Sue was naked, her nudity covered up and wrapped up by their white sheets. Yoshi was on top of her. She licked her lips while holding his hand. "Come here, sweetie. Let's make a litter." She wrapped her thighs and arms around his body and pulled him in close.
Yoshi snapped back to reality. He blushed while rapidly shaking his head. "Taking care of a kid is a huge responsibility. Honestly, I don't even know what a good father looks like. How can someone like me with my past be trusted with a kid."
"Well, if you ask me, the fact that you're questioning yourself already makes you more deserving of a kid than 70% of parents."
"Why do you ask anyways?" asked a flustered Yoshi.
"Oh... no particular reason. Just ignore me. I'm just a silly old lady anyways."
Later, Yosh began cooking for everyone. They all sat down and ate together in a circle on a table that Pinoy brought.
Yoshi handed everyone their food. They had so much sea life to choose from. Salmon, shrimp, lobster, carp, crab, even electric eel.
"Wow, this is so good!" exclaimed Coffee.
"Yeah. My darling sweetheart cooking is the best." said a proud Alice.
"We're you a master cook in another like, dear?" asked a teasing Sybil.
"Hehe, maybe." said Yoshi while rubbing the back of his head. Alice grabbed his hand and forced him down next to her.
"Woah, I didn't know you were such a good cook, Yoshi." said a smiling Kierse.
"Well, I had to cook for myself for a long time. It was just something I became naturally good at."
"If you ever retire as a keeper, you could totally be a world-class chef."
Yoshi chuckled. "I think that's a bit too wide-scaled for me."
"Where did you two even find this food?" asked Alice while looking over to Sylvie and Maroon. "There isn't even Salmon or crab a this beach."
Sylvie giggled. "A magician never reveals her secrets."
About 10 minutes before Alice had to go on her mission, Sybil dragged her to a beach volleyball court. She dragged everyone else there as well and set up a net.
"Aren't the teams uneven?" asked Coffee. Shyly.
"Oh, don't worry. Pinoy and Colette aren't playing. Also, Maroon is getting ready for Alice's zenith class mission. So, it will be a 3 on 3. Sylvie, Alice, you two are on my team."
"Do I seriously have to work with her?" Alice asked while spitefully looking over at Sylvie.
"Ah, don't worry." Sylvie said while throwing her arm around Alice. "And don't try to get distracted and chase around your own tail."
"Ok, let's just get this over with."
Alice, Sylvie, and Sybil stood on one side whole Coffee, Yoshi, and Kierse stood on the other side. However, as Alice was about to serve the ball, a beam of light shot through it and it's atoms were scattered.
The 6 look over to who did it. But before Alice could turn around, Maroon grabbed her by the ear and dragged her off. "Ow ow ow ow! Hey!"
"It's time for your mission."
Her friend stared at the two of them awkwardly as Maroon dragged Alice away. Maroon made Alice change into her clothes, but her black dress was absent. "Where is my black and gold battle suit?"
"It's in the washroom. Even if it wasn't dirty laundry, I wouldn't let you wear it. It gives you too much of an advantage. The only reason you beat my sister was because of that scarf. If you solely start relying on it, you'll fail as a keeper. And I'll fail as a teacher." Maroon tossed Alice her own white and gold clothes. "Put this on."
Alice caught the clothes in her hand. She looked down at them and smiled. "I haven't worn this in a while... but I love these clothes. My father gave them to me. They were the last thing he gave to me before he passed away." Alice started undressing her swimsuit and putting on her clothes. She slipped on the white dress. "He said, 'You'll look so beautiful when you grow up, my little angel.'"
"Too bad Raja couldn't have been more wrong."
As Alice was picking up her sickles, she dropped them. Her eyes constricted and her head slowly turned towards Maroon. "H-How do you know my father's name?"
"Oh, my bad. Did that slip?"
"..."
"Tell you what. If you pass this trial, I'll answer that and any other questions you have."
"... Ok."
